Barry's in trouble at Christmas.
Sleepin_Dragon10 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Foggy's bought himself a Christmas present, a pager, and he can't wait to tell all and sundry about his purchase. Wesley has bought himself a hearse. Barry has woken up in the pub with a huge hangover having been out with the boys and slept all through Christmas, he knows Glenda is not going to be happy with him. Compo, Cleggy and Foggy come up with the idea that he's lost his memory. Getting Barry drunk once again, they've got the hearse to transport him, in his Santa suit.

I can sympathise with the man on the bus with Foggy, I used to commute with a chap that used to tell me about his sat nav system, I wanted to sleep and couldn't for tales of buttons and functions.

I loved the scenes of Barry being transported as Santa in the hearse, that was very funny.

I always loved the show when Foggy was in it, Brian Wilde was such a sweet and sympathetic actor, he made it. Thora Hird was always a treat too, who could forget Edie's driving.

A nice episode with some light humour, shame the transmission time had been cut to only half an hour, it wasn't the best of the Seasonal episodes, but it's still worth a watch, 7/10

Barry's Christmas
ericparsons-088743 January 2022
A vast improvement over last years Christmas special with Wesley's self brought Christmas present of a hearse being used to take Barry home after he spent a drunken night in the pub causing strange looks from Howard and Marina and causing another motorist to crash his car into road works.

Foggy later has a brilliant idea of taking Barry home on horse back until his own self brought Christmas present a bleeper frightens the horse causing it to bolt with him on the back.

There is a brilliant scene of Foggy boring a bus passenger with his war stories the passenger tries to escape by getting of the bus only for Foggy to come with him.

Barry's Christmas
Prismark1011 December 2019
We first encountered Barry after he got drunk and injured himself in Uncle of the Bride.

Here Barry went out on a charity outing on Christmas evening dressed as Santa, got drunk and ended up spending the night in the pub. Luckily our trio come across him in the pub the next morning.

Now he is scared that Glenda would kill him. The ladies try to sooth Glenda but they are not successful by mentioning he might have run off with another woman.

I doubt in reality Wesley would have time to buy a hearse on Boxing day morning. Glenda would had rung up on Christmas night telling her mother that Barry has not come home.

The hearse is merely a device for a drunk Santa to be laid out at the back of it causing a shock to the lookers on. Foggy ends up on a horse and he buys himself a Beeper for some reason as a Christmas present for himself.

Not the best of the Christmas specials. The Santa scenes on the hearse brings a few laughs. Ronnie Hazlehurst has fun with his riff on the Black Beauty theme as Foggy goes off on a horse.

This would be Mike Grady's last appearance as not so young Barry for some years. He returns to the show in the 1996 Christmas special.
