The gang arrives at a place called Gold City. Someone is scaring off the guests, and legend has it. A 100 year old ghost called "The Miner 49er" is the one scaring people off. The Gang tries to uncover the truth about the whole situation
Admittedly, this is one of my least favorite Scooby Doo episodes. That doesn't mean I don't like it, that's far from the case. I've seen it countless times over the years, and I always manage to have lots of fun with it, it's just not up there on my favorite list. The Miner 49er is a rather ordinary villain as far as Scooby foes go. I just don't find him all that menacing. An old geezer with a raggedy beard and a cowboy get- up isn't all that creepy, but that's just me. I do like the western setting. It does deliver some creepy atmosphere, along with authenticity, I just wish there was a better villain. I do have a couple moments that I liked with him. I did like some of his mind game tactics, and the moan is definitely cool. The finale involving the mine carts is extremely well done. I always get a good chuckle out of Shaggy mimicking sounds on the tape recorder, to fool the miner, and Scooby being a train is great. As always, Scooby & Shaggy's antics are hilarious. It's a great episode, and one I watch often, just not a favorite
Shaggy: Hey! I found some candles. Velma: Shaggy, that's dynamite! Shaggy: D...D..D...Dynamite?!
