Thomas L. Friedman Reporting: Searching for the Roots of 9/11 (2003)

*** (out of 4)

The New York Times reporter and Pulitzer Prize-winning Thomas L. Friedman hosts and narrates this documentary that tries to explain why certain Muslims hate America and why many might not have approved of the 9/11 attacks but they might also claim that it needed to happen.

Well, needless to say this documentary is full of great details and information but at the same time I can't help but think a lot of people are going to watch this and walk away quite angry. The highlights of the film are when Muslim students give their opinions of America and then we learn that the majority of the lies that they believe in come from stuff they read on the internet.

There's one instance where a woman talks about certain lies she read about America and then says while she doesn't support 9/11's innocent victims, at the same time Muslims had to get their point across and this was a way to do it. Yeah, this isn't going to go over too well now is it?

Again, the documentary is well-made and there's no doubt that Friedman opens up some interesting topics but twelve years after this documentaries release it's amazing to see how many more people are getting their "news" from places like Facebook.
