A bit messy but still pretty funny

When George Lucas and Comcast Cable launched a competition to find a Jedi from the public, hundreds of thousands of audition tapes flooded in. This film is the behind the scenes story of one fan audition that never got posted. It is the work of Star Wars mad Jedi Steve, who gets his friends to help him dig a Sarlacc pit in his back garden and also gets his sister to dress up in a bikini and do her hair in buns.

Having seen "Double Dip" from Ragtag productions I thought I should check out some more because they seemed to have a good sense of humour and also make fresh short films. Jedi was the second of their films that I watched and, although it is not as good as Double Dip, it is still enjoyable in a silly and less controlled way. The target here is Star Wars fans and they do make for a very easy target and, as a result, the cast improvise a lot of the material easily enough. This is funny and does produce some great moments but too often the downside is that it does feel like friends messing around with a digital camera in their backyard. Amyot cannot seem to pull this back while also letting his cast go but fortunately he is paid back well in laughs.

Lachioma is perhaps a bit too over the top as Steve but he does do well enough for the approach of the overall film. Outside of him Jelinek was my other favourite as she convinced in her character where I felt the others were either too obviously "acting" or were clearly laughing at the jokes going on around them. Overall then this is not as targeted and clever as Double Dip was but it is still funny in a rather messy way.
