"6 hours later you'd be scraping it off your shoe."
bkoganbing11 January 2015
If it hadn't been for a raid on the home of some Yuppie millionaire played by David Harbour where he was conducting a fighting dog exhibition the cops might never have known about a really clever murder plot. Or if a dead dog had not fully digested a woman's hand says Leslie Hendrix you would be scraping it off your shoe.

This case has enough twist for both the detectives and the prosecution to qualify for a ride at Coney Island. The victim was the wife of Adam Rothenberg a friend of Harbour's and one of the spectator's at the dog fight.

Rothenberg is charged first, but then Linus Roache has some second thoughts as evidence points to Harbour as well. There's also a TV news reporter who's been intimate with both guys all in pursuit of a news story you understand. Lara Flynn Boyle has the most interesting part of all in these proceedings.

I can't say any more, this is too good to reveal, but boy does Linus Roache get played.

A man lost his dog but he managed to find it thanks to GPS collar. The animal was used as a bait for other dogs in the classic illegal dog fight. Police got in the apartment where the fights occurred, several dogs were left dead inside cages. Veterinarian discovered a finger inside dog belly, belonged to a woman of around thirty years old. The wife of one member of the ring had been missing for two weeks, much to her sister displeasure. The husband, a real estate agent, had an affair with a reporter and maybe they wanted to get rid of the victim. She framed him, by giving to the police the place where the body was buried. Cutter postdated the trial for one day looking for further evidences: the reporter had an affair even with the ring leader (whose business involved selling conterfeit wine bottles and the victim was ready to report the fraud).

The botulin journalist (Lara Flynn Boyle) is willing to do everything for the "scoop". I think at one point she wanted to seduce Cutter, but he's smarter than her. "I love it when the system works" the judge said at the end: he's right this time.

There are many layers to this episode with lots of twists & turns. From dog fights to dirty news reporters. It's this kind of episode that makes this show great.

A good late series episode of L&O
AlsExGal14 October 2020
Sometimes an L&O episode turns out to be exactly what it starts out to be, and sometimes not. This is a case of one of the latter situations. A man seeking his dog tracks him electronically to a building. He hails a police car, and you can tell at first these cops are not interested in looking for lost dogs in the Big Apple. But when they investigate they find a dog fighting operation involving well heeled individuals and arrest everybody involved. Now, this was a few months after the Michael Vick dog fighting scandal hit the papers, when one of the best paid players in the NFL was found to be running a dog fighting business, and so you MIGHT think this was about that case. But no.

Medical examiner Elizabeth Rodgers is examining the dogs as part of the dogfighting case and finds a woman's finger, complete with finger polish, in the intestines of one of the dogs. And now this really is up detectives Green and Lupo's alley, since a woman without a finger is either going to be complaining mightily in a hospital, or she is past being able to complain.

It's really is a great episode with lots of twists and turns, and although I miss Sam Waterston as Executive DA Jack McCoy front and center in these last few years of Law and Order, the intricacy of the plot does make up for it in this case.

Not an episode to scrape off the shoe
TheLittleSongbird17 October 2022
'Law and Order' was a brilliant show in its prime and overall is actually my favourite of the 'Law and Order' franchise and out of it, 'Special Victims Unit' (the longest running) and 'Criminal Intent'. Despite not feeling the same post-Briscoe. Personally did like Green and Lupo together, they didn't have the same spark as Green with Briscoe but they at least work well together while Cutter has been a great addition this season with one or two exceptions.

One of the better episodes of a generally pretty solid season, brilliant at its best but it took a little time to find its footing, is "Submission". Not quite as outstanding as the previous episode "Betrayal" or a 'Law and Order' high point, but still a great reminder of what makes the show so great when it is on form (which it is here) and a great episode in its own right. There is very little to fault here and the best aspects are pretty brilliant.

Really didn't like the underuse of McCoy, in fact to me it's criminal, he's an iconic character and in general he deserved better this season.

"Submission" is truly great and more everywhere else. Can find nothing to fault the production values for though, the slickness and grit still present and likewise with the more fluid editing. The music is used relatively sparingly and is not too intrusively orchestrated, fitting too with the mood. The direction is generally alert but also sympathetic, shining in the character interactions in the legal scenes. Liked the tautness, edge and thought-probing of the second half's writing.

While enough of the first half absorbs, and Green and Lupo work very well together, the more intricate and meatier second half is more riveting and feels more charged in energy and emotion. Cutter has settled very well and has proven himself to be a very worthy prosecutor. The acting is never less than very good.

In summary, great. 9/10.
