Warning: Spoilers
On "In my time of dying" Spirit Dean angry with John tells him how much he sacrificed for his family and how much he had given, Yet that didn't prevent him from doing more and more sacrifices. But deep down he is scared especially after Ruby told him what is coming for him in Hell and that he can't be saved. And now with Sam finally acknowledging he can't save him, fear strikes him even harder. On this episode Dean is left facing his biggest fear. Jensen Ackles amazes the audience with a brilliant double performance with Dean finally admitting that he didn't deserve to go to Hell, and I bet you will rewind this so many times.

Dean finds drunk Sam in a bar, Sam confesses to him that he can't save him and that no body can save Dean as Dean himself doesn't want to be saved. They get a call from a hospital where Bobby is in a coma and the doctors can't seem to know what happened to him. The boys investigate it to know later that Bobby was working on a case where a college professor died after getting in a coma the same as Bobby. The professor was working on some king of herb used for Dream walking. With the help of Bella the boys get the herb and use it to Dream walk in bobby's head to save him. But later they discover that Dean is in danger of having the same fate.

It is always good to have Bobby on the show. Coming to know more about his background, we find out that he once had a wife who was possessed and he had to kill her before he became a hunter. Dean's concerned look when he was by Bobby's bed in the hospital and his speech to Bobby in the dream reveals that this man is more than just a friend of his father but more of a family member, a father, to him.

The fantasy dream Sam had on Bella was hilarious and so was his reaction to her when she walked into their motel room. But for some reason I really can't imagine a Sam/Bella affair, it just doesn't seem right, A Dean/Bella affair is more logical, though he will probably kill her since she made a fool of him for like the millionth time.

Caffinated Dean was funny, but peeking inside his head was a treat. It's nice to know that the guy is actually dreaming of a normal life someday and that Lisa is the one who holds a special place in his heart. And Sam's dream vs. Dean's, I like Dean's more, which is amazing since Dean was the playboy while Sam was the one-woman man for all we know.

Will the boys get the colt back? Is Sam's physic power resurfacing? Will Dean ever going to be saved?

Not perfect, but the Dean to Dean dialogue (monologue) was great, such fantastic acting of Jensen Ackles!

WoW great episode.

Warning: Spoilers
Wow great episode! 'Dream a little Dream of me' is a cross between the 1980's classic horror movies 'Dreamscape','A Nightmare on Elm street' and 'Altered States. Dean and Bobby face personal demons, and a crazy dream killer like Freddy Kruger, but more like the villain from 'Dreamscape'. Sam figures out the solution, just like in the movie Dreamscape. Well written, the script is a great homage of horror movies past. Excellent acting, and many subplots for future shows. I wonder if Bella pulls her evil stunts to get Dean's attention. Bad attention is better than no attention at all. 9 out of 10. Still the best show on TV. Funny, in a strange way, how the other network pits the macho show 'Jericho' in the same time frame against 'Supernatural'. Supernatural will win. I wonder if they will ever pay homage to the Canadian horror classic 'Scanners'?

Finding out your worst possible dreams...
Red_Identity10 September 2010
Dream a Little Dream of Me is a great episode, shows how high Supernatural can get. It also continues Season 3's amazing stride of strong episodes. The episode is built around the premise that films like 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' are built upon, and the scenes among Dean and Sam's dreams are amazingly directed and photographed, especially the color palettes. Dean also gets a wake up call as to what his future holds, and he boasts a great performance. It is also painful to see Dean struggle the way he is, and the closing scene was edited perfectly to create a real sense of dread, one that will give the Dean and the viewer much to fear. Overall, strong episode.

Really bringing forth the Dean's going to hell arc

Dean confronting his fears is definitely the highlight, the villain is blah, Bella comes in, i like the character but they really are trying to paint her all black rather than when they established there might be some development.

Later developments rob episode of some strength
CubsandCulture6 October 2019
The decision in season 5-6 to have Dean try a domestic life with Lisa, Ben ends up putting way to much weight on a story beat in this episode. Dean's dream of them here is best read as a pure fantasy. The gag in script is more or less a joke. When the developments in the season 5/6 happen the lightness of the moment ends up feeling like clunky set-up. Furthermore, the concept of being in Bobby's head is later recycled into a much better episode of Death's Door. Both of these things make this episode less appealing.

It is still a good episode. The Dean-NightmareDean scene is striking and some of the finest acting that Ackles does in season 3. Likewise that the episode is sort of Bobby focused is needed. They really get a ton of mileage out of Bobby's backstory from this episode.

The episode should have spent a little more time developing the villain as well.

The Homicide Sandman
claudio_carvalho29 August 2009
Bobby Singer is attacked in Pittsburgh and is found in coma in his hotel room. Meanwhile Sam is upset with Dean's situation, drinking alone in a bar. When Dean arrives in the spot, he discusses with Sam, but they are informed by phone about the condition of Bobby. They head to the hospital where the doctor explains that he does not know the cause of Bobby's coma; therefore he does not know how to treat him. The Winchester brothers discover that Bobby was investigating the African dream root "Silene Capensis", the subject of Dr. Gregg's experiment who mysteriously died after a coma similar to Bobby's. Dean pretends to be a detective and interviews Dr. Gregg's assistant Maya Sanders and his former subject Jeremy Foster that had sleep disorder. Dean decides to call Bela to provide the African root to dream and help Bobby. The brothers drink the yellow tea and help Bobby to return; but the homicide sandman decides to chase them in their dreams.

"Dream a Little Dream of Me" is an episode visibly inspired in "A Nightmare on Elm Street" with the killer capable of entering in the dreams of his victims, and turning them into nightmares. The erotic dream of Sam with Bela is funny and the dream of Dean with the gorgeous Lisa Braeden apparently discloses his dream of raising a family of his own. The confrontation with his demon image seems to have changed his perspective of life. However, the naiveness of the brothers with the tricky Bela is irritating. My vote is seven.
