Loved this series but...

Warning: Spoilers
I have loved Darby's character development, her friendships, relationships and family. Seeing her become a mum felt fresh and realistic. Just disappointed to see the cry it out method being used to tackle the baby's poor sleep. So overall good but was a bit gutted to see that as it felt unnecessary.

The end and love and fairies and unicorns

Warning: Spoilers
It was very emotional and it made me cry. She doesn't know, you see how she is worried about things in her life while he is there looking at her. It ends up very Jane Austen with the brit man. very medieval not like sex and the city, tries to be politically correct to the point of not being " real"

Underwhelming Finale
solojere23 December 2020
Overall, Love Life was a mixed bag, and the ending is no different. This time Darby is a hard-working single mom who has a healthy relationship with Augie. I was disappointed this episode didn't fallow up where the last one left off. I think it would have been really cool to see Darby being pregnant and how she and Augie planned to make things worse. I did love the scenes with Darby and Augie, and I was low key. It was also nice to see Darby and Sara together again and that Darby was able to finely get a healthy relationship with both Sarah and her mom. However, "the person" was so disappointing they no chemistry, and I was left feeling, "that's it?" Also, I was raised by a single dad, so the whole dads can do what we do was a little offensive. But I like the overall theme that you need just to take life as it comes and love yourself. So while Love life wasn't my favorite and Darby wasn't my favorite character that Anna has played, it was a sweet story with a relatable main character. I just wish that the episodes had been longer and we had a little more character development.

Season One Review
southdavid28 May 2023
This one had totally passed me by. However, the Guardian's top TV of 2022 list included the second season of this show. Both are currently on the iPlayer though, so I decided to go back to the beginning. I enjoyed this blend of romantic comedy and drama and found Anna Kendrick to be an engaging lead.

Darby Carter (Anna Kendrick) is a young woman living in New York. Over several years we see her life and lives of her friends, unfold with a particular focus on the formative nature of the relationships that Darby has. Though her romantic relationships are important, it's perhaps the ones with her mother (Hope Davis) and best friend Sara (Zoe Chou) that are the most significant.

I think perhaps the persistent criticism I saw online for this show, is that it's a bit slight and that's probably fair. It relies a lot on Kendrick, both to keep her character on the right side of likeable and to deliver almost all of the funny lines. A broader show might have made the various men more unlikeable and rougher but with perhaps one exception they're mostly just regular guys and the relationships don't work out because that's what happens most of the time. Even deeper issues, like Sara's alcoholism are largely breezed over, save for one particularly sad moment in an episode devoted to that relationship.

I think it's the right decision though to move on to focus on somebody else for the second run, which I'll go on to now. I understand that the show will be cancelled after this second season so I'll not get too into it and I'm not sure I'll remember this at all in a few months, but it was reasonable whilst it lasted.

Disappointed

Warning: Spoilers
The episode was underwhelming, but what was really disappointing was seeing the cruel cry it out method used to sleep train the baby. Promoting child abuse should never be acceptable.

The episode would have been less underwhelming if we got too see Darcy and her person relationship for more than a few seconds, it was a lot of build up for not a lot of gain. So many episodes leading to this and it just ends. This is the end of the review I hope this episode doesn't promote the cry it out method to desperate sleep deprived parents as all it does it teach the poor baby that no matter how much they cry, no one is coming.

The Person
Prismark1014 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The finale is set three years after Darby discovered she was pregnant.

Augie and Darby are not together but they share parenting responsibilities in raising their son Theo.

Sara who has turned her life around is getting married. Augie meets Grant at the wedding. He is a divorced man from Britain and both of them hit it off. Grant is the person for Augie.

It is interesting to observe that Augie needed to love life herself before finding love.

I was not sure if Augie really did have sparks with Grant. It seems more of a case that the series needed wrapping up. To hell with any chemistry between the two.

The series will return with different characters. It was a nice amiable dramedy with some romance. I still felt that it bought little new to the table.
