Movies rock my world. I love watching them, discussing them and letting them linger afterwards. As much of a passion movies are for me, I feel the same about music. One of my favorite bands happens to be The Used. From the their very first record, to their latest, “Live and Acoustic at The Palace,” they create a sound that can be intensely fierce as well as emotionally charged and haunting. I... Read More...

We'll be celebrating the 50th anniversary of "The Sound of Music," arguably the most beloved film musical of all time, tomorrow morning with a special interview. Get excited. In the meantime, let's revisit some of the 1965 Best Picture's greatest songs with ten unexpected covers from the past and present. 1. Christina Aguilera mounts "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" Christina Aguilera, as we'll soon discover, is a diehard "Sound of Music" fan. Here in a 2000 performance she decimates "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" and basically confirms she has very little in common with Britney Spears, talent-wise. 2. Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Jerry Seinfeld are "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" Also in 2000: Julia Louis-Dreyfus displayed some tuenful gusto on "The Late Show with David Letterman" and belted "Sixteen Going on Seventeen." She proved she could sing, which I'd somehow forgotten. Surprise guest Jerry Seinfeld joined in on the fun and proved he could... vocally contribute. It's just sweet. More singing from Jld,...

Academy Awards telecast producers Bruce Cohen and Don Mischer have set 62nd Emmys production designer Steve Bass to do the same for the 83rd Academy Awards. The big surprise is that their choice isn't David Rockwell, who has been the production designer for the past two Oscarcasts and won an Emmy for last year's. I'm told he was offered the job but decided to sit out this year: Beverly Hills, CA — Steve Bass will serve as production designer for the 83rd Academy Awards® presentation, Oscar telecast producers Bruce Cohen and Don Mischer announced today. This will be the first time the Emmy®-winning production designer has worked on the Oscar telecast. "I have collaborated with Steve several times, and he’s the perfect person for this year’s Oscars,” said Mischer. “He’s an innovative, creative talent who I know will do justice to the tradition and glamour of the Academy Awards.

For the third year in a row, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has called upon a new pair of producers to orchestrate the Oscars ceremony, hiring Bruce Cohen and Don Mischer, the tandem behind last year’s Governors ball. (The two also collaborated on 2007’s Movies Rock special.) After 2009's Oscar Night, memorable for its song-and-dance routines, and this year’s, memorable for being unmemorable, AMPAS has decided to tap proven veterans who among them have an Oscar and 15 Emmy awards. The spaniel-maned Cohen earned his Litle Gold Man for producing 1999’s best picture, American Beauty, and was nominated for Milk last year. (He also produced The Flintstones, which came just shy of a nomination.) Mischer, meanwhile, is strictly a TV guy, and let’s not forget that, for all their prostration at Hollywood’s feet, the Oscars are above all a TV show. Having produced an Emmy Awards,...

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences president Tom Sherak is jumping the gun this year by announcing the show's producers in June. The producers of last November's first inaugural Governor's Awards, film producer Bruce Cohen and TV producer Don Mischer, will do the honors on the 83rd Academy Awards telecast, which airs on ABC Sunday, February 27, live from the Kodak Theatre. Mischer will also direct the telecast. Cohen collected an Oscar in 1999 as producer, with Dan Jinks, of best picture American Beauty. In 2008, he and Jinks were also nominated for Milk. Cohen also produced Big Fish and executive produced television's Pushing Daisies. Mischer met Cohen when he executive produced the TV special Movies Rock in 2007. Mischer is an old hand ...

In what quickly is becoming a tradition, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is entrusting the Oscars to two producers, tapping Bruce Cohen and Don Mischer to guide the 83rd Annual Academy Awards.
Given the job's ever-increasing demands, the Academy has used similar teams for the past two years, turning to Laurence Mark and Bill Condon for the 81st ceremony and Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman for the show in March.
Mischer also will direct the Oscarcast, set for Feb. 27 on ABC from the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland.
Cohen, an Oscar winner as one of the producers of 1999's "American Beauty" and a producer of last year's best picture nominee "Milk," brings a wealth of Hollywood associations to the assignment.
Mischer, a proven hand at producing and directing awards shows and live events, has 15 Emmys and 10 DGA awards on his mantle. This past awards season, he picked...
