Even 25 years later, I can remember this documentary and would love to see it again.

While some might consider this particular installment of "Nova" a bit gruesome to watch, it's among the most interesting documentaries I've ever seen--and I've watched a ton of documentaries. I sure would love to get a copy of this particular show, but I don't think it's available anywhere. It's a shame--it's amazing.

This episode is about a failed Arctic expedition mounted by the British. When the show begins, you are given a brief overview and learn that the members all perished. The purpose of the show isn't so much to retell this story but actually go to the coldest and most miserable portions of Canada in search of the dead crew members and exhume them. As I said, this does get a bit gruesome. However, you soon look past the bodies and marvel at three things. First, the incredible detail the modern expedition took to uncover and then rebury EXACTLY the bodies they found. Second, it really is incredible how well-preserved the dead guys were--creepy but well preserved. Third, how the survey was able to put to the test theories as to why the original explorers did completely insane things on the way to starving and freezing to death.

Completely fascinating and compelling--this is one documentary to watch...if you can actually find a copy!!
