Netflix sci-fi series 3 Body Problem isn’t out yet, but showrunners Dan Benioff and Db Weiss have talked about their future plans for it. “We’d need three, maybe four seasons to tell the whole story.”
With a reported budget of about $160m, 3 Body Problem is a particularly pricey TV series from Netflix – a company that isn’t afraid to throw lots of money at certain projects. And while the future of the sci-fi show – based on the best-selling trilogy of books by Cixin Liu – depends on how the first eight episodes are received, showrunners Db Weiss and David Benioff certainly have big plans for it.
Speaking to Collider, the duo revealed that they already had the second season mapped out – “We’re much farther along with that plan than rough idea stages,” Weiss said – and are also thinking about how long the series could run for in total.

Apple Original Films is in talks to pick up a package for the dramatic thriller The Lost Bus that has star Matthew McConaughey and director Paul Greengrass circling.
Brad Ingelsby (Mare of Easttown) wrote the script for The Lost Bus based on Lizzie Johnson’s 2021 fact-based book Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire that takes place amid California’s Camp Fire in 2018, which became the deadliest blaze in the state’s history. The film’s story follows bus driver Kevin McKay and teacher Mary Ludwig, who heroically helped lead a school bus full of students through the wildfire that devastated the town of Paradise.
The Lost Bus hails from Jamie Lee Curtis’ Comet Pictures and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse. Producers include Ingelsby and Greg Goodman, while Johnson and Amy Lord serve as executive producers.

Jimmy Fallon probably wakes up every day grateful that the SAG strike is over. How else could he fill The Tonight Show‘s air time with skits about insanely tight pants and convince Matthew McConaughey to be part of it?
In a remarkably silly sketch, McConaughey joined Fallon for a number titled “Tight Pants,” where the duo donned — you guessed it — tight white pants and sang about it. Also wearing wigs and striped blue shirts, the pair argued about whose tight pants were better. In the end, it was actually...

We’re now at the end of 2023, and the list of canceled Netflix shows for the year is now complete. Below, we’ll look at all the high-profile cancelations (that have been announced anyway) as of December 2023.
Cancelations are a painful part of being a Netflix subscriber. There’s nothing worse than starting a show only to discover that it’ll never properly conclude. Netflix isn’t the only network by any means to cancel, but given the scale of the service globally and the amount of content it produces, it’s easy to see why Netflix is the boogeyman.
With that said, Netflix does renew plenty, with over 150 shows at any given time set to return for future seasons.
There will also be lots and lots of shows that fall outside of this list into two camps.
Naturally ending shows include The Crown, Firefly Lane, and Never Have I Ever.

Streaming giant Netflix has always said that the decisions whether to renew a show or not are based on performance vs. cost. The release today of What We Watched, a Netflix report on global viewed hours for 18,000 titles — original and licensed — from January to June of 2023 provides context on the calls the streamer made for seasons that debuted during that period.
It won’t come as much of a consolation to Shadow and Bone fans, who are still reeling from the fantasy drama’s cancellation after two seasons, but it was the most watched English-language scripted series from that period to get the axe, amassing 192.9M hours viewed from its March 16 debut through end of June to rank #26.

“Blue Eye Samurai” has been renewed for a second season at Netflix.
Created by Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, “Blue Eye Samurai” tells the story of Mizu (voiced by Maya Erskine), a mixed-race master of the sword. Set in Edo-period Japan, Mizu lives a life in disguise seeking the deliverance of revenge.
“When we started this project, we made a commitment to take this very personal story set in Edo-period Japan and bring it to life in the most authentic and beautiful way possible. Our animators, historians, musicians, martial artists and voice cast made this a reality beyond our expectations,” said Noizumi and Green in a statement, per Netflix. “We are thankful to our entire team and to our viewers from all over the world who have shown such passion for Mizu and her path of revenge. The cancelations continue ahead of the holiday weekend.
Amazon has axed a trio of scripted series from its Prime Video service: The Horror of Dolores Roach, Harlan Coben’s Shelter, and With Love are all ending.
The Horror of Dolores Roach and Harlan Coben’s Shelter ran for one season, while With Love is ending after two seasons.
They are the latest cancelations at the streamer over the last few months following shows such as The Peripheral and A League of Their Own, which had both been renewed before those decisions were reversed.

Netflix has dropped the axe on five of its shows. The streaming service has cancelled live-action shows Shadow and Bone and Glamorous, as well as animated shows Agent Elvis, Farzar, and Captain Fall. The production delays caused by the recently ended WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes were partly to blame for the cancellations, as were subscriber views vs production costs.

Shadow And Bone, Glamorous and Agent Elvis are among the five shows Netflix is cancelling, it’s been announced.
Netflix has announced that it’s cancelling a handful of its original TV shows in the wake of the recent Hollywood strikes. The shows affected are, in no particular order, Glamorous, Agent Elvis, Farzar, Captain Fall and Shadow And Bone.
Of these, Shadow And Bone is perhaps the most high-profile; a fantasy series based on the books by Leigh Bardugo, it was headed up by Oscar-winning screenwriter Eric Heisserer (he wrote the script for Arrival). Featuring a sprawling ensemble cast which included Jessie Mei, Kit Young and Zoe Wanamaker, Shadow And Bone ran for two seasons and was generally well received, with Netflix – which is usually secretive about viewing figures – saying that the first season had been watched by 55m households worldwide.

Deadline has reported that Netflix has canceled a number of their shows, including Shadow and Bone, Agent Elvis, Glamorous, Farzar, and Captain Fall.
Unfortunately, a major factor in these cancelations has to do with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. With work at a standstill for several months, networks and streamers haven’t been able to make their projected launches, which means big gaps between seasons. This isn’t a problem for successful shows, but for ones that may have been on the bubble, not to mention expensive, it was the final nail in the coffin. We can certainly expect to see more of these cancelations as streaming services and networks take stock of their slate following the strikes.

Netflix has cut several original series as it assesses its slate after the end of two industry strikes.
The streamer has canceled its dramas Shadow and Bone and Glamorous, along with a trio of adult animated series — Agent Elvis, Captain Fall and Farzar. Shadow and Bone ends after two seasons, while the other four are all one and done.
The cancellations come as Netflix, along with other outlets, considers what it has in its pipeline and how potentially long layoffs between seasons for its series might impact performance. Production on a number of series is restarting in the weeks after the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike (and writers have been at work since late September, following the end of their labor action), but it’s unlikely any of the five canceled shows would have made it back onto Netflix screens before late in 2024 (if not 2025).

Netflix has canceled five original series in the aftermath of the Hollywood double strike. The streamer decided not to renew live-action dramas “Shadow and Bone” and the Kim Cattrall-led “Glamorous,” along with animated series “Agent Elvis,” “Farzar” and “Captain Fall.”
The news comes as the streamer evaluates the impact of the long work stoppage related to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. There have been cancellations and un-renewals across the industry related to the production halt, with many freshman series particularly vulnerable since it would take too long for them to turn around new episodes and stay in the cultural conversation.
Exceptions include hit series like “The Night Agent” and “One Piece,” who’s impressive debuts guaranteed them quick renewals even during the strikes.
“Shadow and Bone” is the only sophomore series in the bunch. A hit in its first season, the show is inspired by the Grishaverse novels by Leigh Bardugo.

“Shadow and Bone” and “Glamorous,” along with adult animated series “Agent Elvis,” “Farzaar,” and “Captain Fall” will not be returning for new seasons at Netflix, Variety has confirmed.
The announcement comes as Hollywood streamers and broadcasters continue to assess the impact left by the work stoppages due to the months-long WGA and SAG-Aftra strikes. Sources say Netflix’s decision to cancel stemmed from various reasons including performance and impact from the strike — as the industry evaluates production schedules, scheduling shifts, etc.
As Netflix has said about previous cancellations, the streamer continues to look at viewing versus cost as it evaluates shows. In the case of series like “Agent Elvis,” “Glamorous,” “Farzaar,” and “Captain Fall,” each show only ran for one season before its cancellation. While “Shadow and Bone” received a cancellation after running its second season, which arrived on the streamer in March.

‘Shadow And Bone’, ‘Glamorous’ & ‘Agent Elvis’ Among 5 Series Canceled By Netflix Amid Strike Impact
Exclusive: Netflix will not be going forward with more seasons of live-action series Shadow and Bone and Glamorous and adult animated comedies Agent Elvis, Farzar and Captain Fall.
The decision was made a week after the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike and a month and a half after the end of the WGA work stoppage as networks and platforms continue to evaluate the impact from the strike-related seven-month production shutdown.
While there had been a slew of series cancellations and un-renewals by linear networks and streamers during and immediately after the strikes, Netflix had largely refrained from making cancellation decisions during the past 6½ months while announcing a number of renewals, including One Piece (S2), Ginny & Georgia (S3 and S4); The Lincoln Lawyer (S3), Xo, Kitty (S2), Heartstopper (S2 and S3), The Night Agent (S2 picked up on the eve of the WGA strike), The Diplomat (S2), Fubar (S2), Sweet Magnolias...

Graceland’s Meditation Garden has become a place where fans of Elvis Presley can pay their respects to not only the king of rock and roll but his family. However, the garden has recently become a hot-button topic among Elvis’ fans, who recently learned his ex-wife Priscilla would someday be interred there. Elvis’ cousin Billy Smith weighed in on the debate calling the decision “kind of strange.”

The TV academy has honored voice-only performances since 1992, when six cast members from “The Simpsons” collectively became the first actors to receive Emmys for such work. The Best Voice-Over Performance category became an official non-juried one in 2009 and was then split into two categories in 2014: Best Character Voice-Over and Best Narrator. Harry Shearer (“The Simpsons”) was the former category’s first champion, having been nominated once before for the same series.
The 2023 Best Character Voice-Over ballot consists of 148 performances, which is down by 74 from last year. Seeking her third victory is Maya Rudolph, who plays Connie the Hormone Monstress on “Big Mouth.” Also in the mix are former winners Shearer, Hank Azaria (“The Simpsons”), Alex Borstein (“Family Guy”), and Seth MacFarlane (“Family Guy”).

Elvis Presley made a return to the zeitgeist this past year.
On the heels of the Oscar-nominated 2022 drama Elvis, starring Austin Butler, the adult animated series Agent Elvis, featuring a “retro cool” look and the voice of Matthew McConaughey as the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, arrived in April on Netflix.
Created by Priscilla Presley and John Eddie, with Eddie and head writer Mike Arnold serving as showrunners, the animated sitcom follows the music icon as he moonlights as a secret agent between performances during the period from 1968 to 1973. “It’s a known fact Elvis wanted to be a secret agent. The whole impetus for the series started from that photo of Elvis going to Richard Nixon and offering his services as an undercover agent,” claims Eddie. “I had always pitched it as Elvis Presley as a secret agent fighting crime, as if directed by Quentin Tarantino.”

After being publicly fired from the show he created, it seemed Dan Harmon was done with "Community" forever. Rarely, if ever, had a mainstream U.S. television network rehired a volatile showrunner after parting ways with them. Then again, "Community" always had a David and Goliath spirit and a surprising resilience to it, so anything was possible. Still, when NBC and Sony Pictures TV decided to bring Harmon back and hand him the keys to his show once again after an underwhelming fourth season without him, Harmon didn't have time to take a victory lap. Instead, as he relayed to Uproxx in an interview, he had one question: "Who the hell is gonna write the show"?
Because the negotiations to get him back took a little while to iron out, Harmon and his core team felt like they were already behind the eight ball when it came to season 5. "So...

Nimona directors Nick Bruno and Troy Quane, Stevenson, producers Karen Ryan and Julie Zackary, and production designer Aidan Sugano will be on hand at the festival. Along with the screening, a making-of session is on the agenda.
Another panel will examine Aardman’s eagerly awaited Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, the sequel to its 2000 stop-motion animated feature Chicken Run, which remains the highest-growled stop motion animated feature of all time. Right from the get-go, composers Tyler Bates and Timothy Williams both knew that they wanted to be a part of the Netflix show, “Agent Elvis.” In addition to the concept of the show itself, Williams found several other reasons to be involved. “The whole concept of it was really interesting. Plus the era that it’s set in is late ‘60s, early ‘70s, which is one of my favorite periods of music. Just so much incredible stuff came out of that period of time,” he tells Gold Derby during our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video interview above). Bates adds that they had a green light to basically do whatever they wanted. “Everyone involved really prompted Tim and I to enjoy being quite zany with our approach.”

“Agent Elvis,” the hand-drawn adult animated Netflix series from Sony Pictures Animation and directed by Fletcher Moules (“Entergalactic”), re-imagines Elvis Presley as a super cool spy in a wild, gory, drugged-out alternate reality. It crosses “Archer” with “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” putting the King square in the crosshairs of everyone from the Manson Family and Howard Hughes to Richard Nixon and Timothy Leary — all while retaining recognizable signposts from Presley’s life, from concert specials to his hatred of Robert Goulet.
There’s also an array of hilarious cameos, including Stanley Kubrick shooting a staged moon landing — guess who ends up in the space suit? — and a young George Lucas getting inspiration for the lightsaber from Hughes’ radioactive urine stream weapon. “Agent Elvis” is so meta that Baz Luhrmann even voices the director of Presley’s final film “Change of Habit.”

Netflix’s new limited series Transatlantic is the inversion of the streamer’s recent Elvis-as-animated-spy comedy Agent Elvis.
With Agent Elvis, it was: Come for the silly premise, genre hijinks and a lovable (thoroughly historically accurate) masturbating chimpanzee, stay for the surprisingly well-researched exploration of 1960s and ’70s esoterica.
With Transatlantic, I came for what is a spectacular, perhaps under-known corner of history, with tendrils into 1930s and ’40s European cultural esoterica, and I was left with genre hijinks, surrealist wackiness and a lovable (thoroughly historically accurate) dog.
Take that as you will.
If Transatlantic arrived on Netflix with a guarantee that every viewer who tuned in would promptly go and learn more about the story of Varian Fry, Mary Jayne Gold and the Villa Air-Bel, I would give it a strong recommendation.
The series, which hails from Unorthodox co-creator Anna Winger and Daniel Handler, is a frothy adventure yarn...

This article contains mild spoilers for "Agent Elvis."
One of the most exciting Netflix animated projects of 2023 just hit the platform. "Agent Elvis" is an animated adult action comedy that dares to ask the question: What if the King of Rock 'n' Roll was also an international super spy with a cocaine-using chimpanzee for a sidekick?
Besides the very "Archer"-inspired tone of the show's absurdist comedy and the blood-soaked action, the biggest draw of "Agent Elvis" is its mix of truth and fiction. The series takes a "Forrest Gump" approach to history, placing Elvis in historical events as he interferes with or changes what we think happened, while still following the timeline of events in Elvis' real life. This results in a sort of animated version of the fantastic "Legends of Tomorrow," as we see Elvis give George Lucas words of encouragement at the Altamont Free Concert, or kick...

Matthew McConaughey playing Elvis? Here’s the crazy new series, Agent Elvis, in which the legendary singer fights crime alongside his monkey with high levels of… testosterone.
In addition, the voices of Kaitlin Olson, Johnny Knoxville or Don Cheadle guarantee us a daring, very loutish – and quality – series.
About the Series
A series that will serve to reconcile some fans with the streaming network that, let’s face it, has everything and now gets into adult animation like Harley Quinn (HBO Max) and, with a similar style, takes us to Las Vegas to contemplate the eccentricities of this Elvis turned James Bond.
A hilarious series produced by none other than Priscilla Presley who was married to… you get the picture.
A lot of the Tarantino touch mixed with psychedelia.
Enjoy this very, very offbeat series aimed at an audience eager to live an experience… on the other side of the familiar dark side.

The best thing about Netflix’s Agent Elvis, which posits Elvis Presley as a spy within a covert government program, isn’t Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey voicing the rock ‘n’ roll icon. He just sounds like himself, which is funny enough and saves him the trouble of Austin Butler-esque permanent burn-in.
The highlight isn’t the animation, though the Sony Pictures Animation and Titmouse team deliver ample comic book-flavored pizzazz.
It will surprise regular readers that my favorite thing in Agent Elvis isn’t even that Elvis is accompanied by a debauched, sociopathic chimpanzee sidekick — not that I’m complaining that a debauched, sociopathic chimpanzee plays a major role in Agent Elvis.
No, the best thing about Netflix’s Agent Elvis is that no matter how outlandish and ridiculous it is, it’s all true. Ok, fine. It isn’t All true. Probably most of it isn’t true,...

Netflix’s new series “Agent Elvis” arrives March 17 and sees the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll pulling double duty as a singer by day and a secret government battling dark forces by night. And this time, it’s Matthew McConaughey voicing the King.
Accompanying the animated series is a musical soundtrack composed by Tyler Bates and Timothy Williams, who recently scored “Pearl.”
Intertwining iconic Elvis Presley syncs such as “Viva Las Vegas” and “If I Can Dream” is a score with a rock-tinged surfer vibe and plenty of guitar to underscore the action.
Says Bates, “‘Agent Elvis’ is such an amazingly hilarious show that Tim and I had to tamp down our laughter in order to work on the score, which is a musical odyssey unlike any I have previously encountered.”

Given the ubiquitous pop cultural figure he became, it’s not hard to imagine that an animated show about Elvis Presley fighting crime might have been a vintage piece of kids’ breakfast cartoon fun back in the day. But strap in – because the incoming Agent Elvis is actually going to be a wild, irreverent, bloody ride for grown-up audiences, taking the King Of Rock n’ Roll (here voiced by none other than Matthew McConaughey) and pitching him into all kinds of crazy historical adventures.

Priscilla Presley is back in the spotlight for her first public appearance since the death of her daughter, Lisa Marie Presley. The 77-year-old posed on the red carpet on March 7 to support the Los Angeles premiere of Netflix's new adult animated series, "Agent Elvis," inspired by the rock 'n' roll icon, also Priscilla's ex-husband.
Additionally, Priscilla participated in a Q&a with "Agent Elvis" cocreator John Eddie and showrunner Mike Arnold, during which she, also as cocreator of the show, explained that she aimed for the series to serve as a way of "introducing Elvis to the youth today, wondering why he was so famous and to see him as a hero," per The Hollywood Reporter.
The event comes nearly two months after Lisa Marie died at age 54 on Jan. 12, which occurred only two days after her and her mother's joint appearance at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards to support "Elvis" star Austin Butler.

Nearly two months after the sudden death of her daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, on Jan. 12., Priscilla Presley made her first public appearance on Tuesday for a special screening and conversation around her new Netflix series Agent Elvis.
Presley, who co-created and voices herself in the adult animated comedy, took part in a Q&a alongside fellow co-creator John Eddie and showrunner Mike Arnold at Netflix’s Tudum Theater. The series, which sees Matthew McConaughey take over as the King of Rock and Roll, also features a voice cast of Kaitlin Olson, Johnny Knoxville, Niecy Nash, Tom Kenny and Don Cheadle. It follows Elvis as he is inducted into a secret government spy program to battle dark forces threatening America.
Eddie said the show was inspired by the famous photo of Elvis with Richard Nixon, where he offered his services to be a DEA agent, as well as speeches he made...

If 2022 kicked off the Great Streaming Correction, then 2023 is when we should start to see some changes. At Netflix, it’s already started. When curbed subscriber growth and sinking stock prices forced an industry-wide reevaluation of the streaming business, the long-time Binge King reversed course and launched an ad-supported subscription tier. Company spokespeople had said for years this would never happen, but “never” can’t be taken literally when it comes to the streaming wars.
Alterations can even be spotted in each month’s batch of new releases. From big patterns — like noting a dearth of quality programs in February vs. all the Emmy-bait dropping in May — to small ones, like when new series drop on odd days (like Tuesdays or Saturdays), there’s much to be learned about the ins and outs of the ultra-secretive streaming giant. March 2023 is no different. There are a healthy batch of new shows,...

If you watched Baz Luhrmann's "Elvis" and thought to yourself, "this is good, but I wish Austin Butler was animated and also had a gun and was solving crimes," have we got the series for you! With Elvis fever running wild, the King of Rock and Roll has a new adult animated show due to arrive soon on Netflix, featuring Matthew McConaughey in the voiceover role he was born to play — Elvis Presley, but a super spy. The animation is sharp and snappy, the language and violence certainly aren't for kids, and despite the seemingly ridiculous premise ... "Agent Elvis" looks pretty damn awesome.
The series has been in the works since 2019, back when it was called "Agent King," but with "Agent Elvis" heading our way faster than you can put on a new pair of blue suede shoes, here's everything you need to know before the King enters the building.
