Don't understand the hate
dragoncherie12 June 2020
Perhaps I try to be a glass half full type with films like these but I truly don't know why some of the better episodes have such bad reviews. I agree with other comments, the film knows what is and isn't trying to be anything else. I did see why some might call it a "campy" movie but it did have some well acted moments. Also, yeah, some people need to be reminded that they have more things to be thankful for than angry about. Overall, it was not a bad watch. Anyway, like I always say, ust watch and see for yourself.

Surprised to see the bad reviews! One of the better 'Into The Dark' episodes!
jorgito20015 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
If you can suspend belief on the premise, the mom hiring some acting Pilgrims to "stay" over the Thanksgiving holiday (strangers in your house...riiiiight), its a very entertaining episode and one of the better ones over the last 2 seasons. The daughter (Reign Edwards) I started off rooting for her to DIE or get TORTURED, she's the definition of a spoiled "screw everybody, its all about ME" millennial and she pulled it off to a tee (and was happy when it was her to turn to suffer a little..haha). Peter Giles as Ethan steals the show IMO. He's eerie and just plain WEIRD as as the leader of the pilgrimage. The story has a bit of a slow built up and that's just FINE with me (I grew up on 70s & 80s horror) and is a PERFECT horror movie for Thanksgiving (we don't have enough of those, plenty of Halloween and Christmas ones). May have to rewatch this one every year around this time!

An interesting movie that seems to have been review bombed for its content
csep8 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is a well-performed film that takes the premise of what the lesson is from the first Thanksgiving and plays it out with a modern American family. The mother invites a couple portraying Pilgrims to teach the family about the holiday by taking part in the annual dinner. The dark side of the Pilgrim's legacy begins to emerge gradually as they spend "a few days," slowly encroaching on the household, building on the family's property, etc. It is an interesting premise, although the episode is a bit of a slow burn in how it develops. People looking for slasher movie fare or a thrill ride will not find that here.

Unfortunately, it seems that those viewers and/or internet trolls who automatically dislike anything with views they don't care for have deliberately targeted this film for what it's about and given it low scores that it does not deserve. Is it the best film I've ever seen? Probably not. Is it worthy of a score below 5 stars? No.

Campy thanksgiving satire
MovieQween-3362216 November 2019
This is over-the-top campy Thanksgiving satire is kind of fun to watch. This is about a family whos matriach wants to have the perfect Thanksgiving experience for her family to bond them and uphold her perfect wife image in the community. She hires these Pilgrims to come in and have dinner with the family. The Pilgrim visitors end up staying in their home with them because who doesn't invite strangers to stay with them?! They invite more and more of their weirdo Pilgrim gang and chaos ensues. You can probably see where this story goes if you've seen the trailer or read the plot. Is this story realistic? Absolutely not, but it's not meant to be, it's meant to be satirical and offer comedic horror about a beloved holiday gone wrong. Don't take it too seriously! Also I'm still convinced that these Into the Dark episodes are made by film students of Jason Blum's somewhere for their final their class or something. LOL most are lazy, cheesy stories.

Original concept. Well done. Irrational reactions annoy.
oznjerz5 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Many horrific scenes and situations. The only annoyance I have is the thought : Is this a world where police don't exist?

It is a fun view in spite.

The start is interesting, the ending a disappointment
patrickfilbeck23 September 2021
This episode of ItD starts with an interesting premise, but also with strange characters, which are all unlikable. The story is often thin, but the mystery makesit still interestinguntil the second third of the flick. From there it becomes only trashy and selfdestructive. And the ending is the result of the missing effort of the screenplay.

Exactly what it says it is.
clk264-649-71646314 November 2019
If you read what the movie is about, watching it is quite literally what it says. It has some really good violence, and gore, so, you definitely get what you're looking for.

Utter rubbish. Falls on its face about halfway through.
frankblack-7996113 October 2021
Such nonsense in most films these days. It was interesting until about halfway into the movie. It becomes an insult to watch such rubbish. This situation would have been resolved after the first couple deaths. A character gets away from the psychos and doesn't call for help. Every chance was there to get help even without a cell phone. They are in the middle of a highly populated area. People are literally yards away. Ive been turning off so many movies lately its incredible. Sure its a movie, but there has to be at least a little common sense to be engaging as a viewer. Just ridiculous.

Into the dark: Thanksgiving II
edicionccq16 November 2019
The beginning is a little bit boring because you already know that something shady is going to happen but the thing that I loved the most about this episode are the set ups and the payoffs. Cause, there are things in the first half of the movie that seems irrelevant but they are actually quite useful at the second half-

The main character is a whiny pretentious unlikable person. Starts with her preaching about how bad Thanksgiving is before 6 minute mark.

I'd say this is a must see for fans of horror films and is an above average addition to the genre
kevin_robbins15 May 2021
The Pilgrim (2019) is currently available on Hulu from Into the Dark. The movie focuses on a stepmother trying to deliver a healthy family environment for her husband and two stepchildren and goes over the top for Thanksgiving removing electronics and having pilgrims come into their home to help them experience an authentic holiday. They decide to let the pilgrims stay longer than Thanksgiving and things begin getting too authentic around their home. The movie is directed by Marcus Dunstan (The Collector & The Collection) and stars Reign Edwards (Snowfall), Kerr Smith (Final Destination), Courtney Henggeler (Cobra Kai), Peter Giles (Into the Dark) and Beth Curry (Hart of Dixie). I want to start with I loved this movie. The feel of the movie from beginning to end was perfect. The character portrayal and script for all of the characters were pretty good. I also adored the kill scenes throughout. There's a nice Pooka Easter Egg in here for fans of the Pooka Into the Dark series. Overall I'd say this is a must see for fans of horror films and is an above average addition to the genre. I'd give it a solid 7/10.

Cringy actors and an unnecessarily grotesque ending
Poor actors and characters that didn't encourage a feeling of believability. The "old English pilgrims" who "didn't break character" talked like normal people while just throwing in random "old timey" words that didn't really fit.

The ending was overly grotesque without a semblance of real life gore/violence.

You gotta be pretty bored to feel it'd be worth watching this one.

Passable Feast of Horror
TheTruthofItIs20 June 2020
I enjoyed Reign Edwards (pretty hot) as "Cody" and Cheryl Hines look alike Courtney Henggeler as Anna in "Into the Dark"'s S02E02 feature length Thanksgiving-themed episode. Cody uses her wishbone win to sabotage her parents' Tgiving event which features First Thanksgiving pilgrim actors. The horror plays out in two forms: psychological and physical, so you get a double helping so to speak. It's not great but a decent enough watch.

Into the Dark - Pilgrim - holy moly murderous pilgrims.
bviessman-3406031 March 2021
First off starts with the family dynamic. Kerr Smith is the dad. If you are not familiar, he is a fan fav since Dawson Creek. Watch the episode of Criminal Minds and NCIS Kerr guest stars in he is brilliant. I must admit I was half paying attention and waiting for the buildup. When it hits, it hits. You are rooting the family by the end. Good old fashion Thanksgiving story.

Pilgrim
bobcobb30110 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This could have been about 45 minutes shorter and still got the point across. The insane pilgrims were in charge for far too long and we just kept waiting for how it would all end.

It was eerie in the beginning, but this was just too much stupid for one day.

Evil Dead meets Thanksgiving
dconley-0981331 March 2022
After the half way point you realize that it's not just a terrible movie, it's intentionally over the top. Super campy. Think Evil Dead or Cabin in the Woods. After we realized what we had here, we just sat back and enjoyed the crazy. There were a few great moments. Best campy B movie I've seen in a while.

Incredibly dumb
bk-5128428 April 2022
By far the worst of any episodes I've seen. Skip this one and literally watch any other Into the Dark episodes. I'm shocked to see any positive ratings. This lacked any substance, while trying to take a moral high ground, while suddenly trying to be darkly funny, then fake gory just a total mess. Its literally one of the worst things I've ever seen.

Some Viewers Got It
Mehki_Girl23 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Like another astute viewer said, this movie pretty much depicts the original thanksgiving.

Encroaching on someone else's home, having supposedly left their own for religious "freedom", and then forcing everyone else into their belief system and taking over their home.

If they don't comply, well, then slaughter them. As much as everyone doesn't like the female teen character, she got it right!

Sometimes the truth hurts.

Anyway, I don't really like gore horror, but I did enjoy this one, especially the first 2/3rds of the creepy setup.

It took a little too long for the family to fight back. Perhaps it took the original inhabitants too long to realize what they had welcomed into their home, too.

Well, history tells they certainly did.

Horrible acting
braves-5989110 October 2020
Reign Edwards is one of the worst actresses I ever seen. I mean, I tried to get in to this movie but couldn't get past god awful performance and turned it off 25 minutes in. She needs to stick terrible daytime soaps.

HIGHLY ENTERTAINING
LilysHammer7 November 2019
This movie knows what it is, and it does it very well. It's not hide-under-the-covers horror or a psychological slow-burn, but rather a well-acted, campy B movie. The family dynamics are pretty darn good, right down to the eye-rolling teens and quippy dialogue. If you enjoy films like Cabin in the Woods and Dale and Tucker vs. the Evil, you'll probably enjoy this film. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and neither should you. Enjoy it for what it is !

Preachy, inconsistent mess
benjaminlipovsky25 November 2019
The movie began with an honestly interesting premise, but quickly heaped on the 'colonizer' guilt and had a drastic and awkward tonal shift in the third act that made it feel like a completely different team wrote and filmed the ending.

The family was unlikable, aside from the mom and son. The father is an emotionally absent workaholic and the main protagonist is a whiny, self-centered, smug and preachy teenager who rants about Thanksgiving being a holiday celebrating stealing native land, genocide and comparing Pilgrims to Nazis. The person we're supposed to cheer for was the one I wanted to die first.

The movie begins with delicate, rising tension but suddenly quickly shifts into Army of Darkness/Dead Alive-like absurdity that feels like a completely different movie than the first half.

When you're cheering for the bad guys to slaughter the protagonist, your movie is a terrible failure. This was the first of the series I've watched and based on this, I'll be avoiding the rest.

You are rooting for the pilgrims to kill the main character
wesperkins26 March 2024
So overall. I kind of like this episode, But they made the main character so annoying and pretentious, that you literally pull for her to die. Whenever a movie has the audience rooting against the main character, I feel like they've done something wrong. She's a brat, Who doesn't appreciate anything she has. It doesn't really give too much of a backstory as to how this family came about.

The pilgrims are creepy enough and well acted. Doesn't really explain where they come from or If they are supernatural or not. There are tons of plot holes.. They're multiple chances to go to the neighbors. Or call the police. I'm trying to keep this spoiler free. But you will see what I mean. It's just not the most realistic movie. But I don't think it was meant to be. Outside of hating the main character, I kind of enjoyed it even if it wasn't the best movie.
