The Sandwich...
docstrangeone19 November 2019
Not a bad short, but has alot of continuity issues...like the sandwich and water on the table, it takes away from the scenes when it appears and disappears at will...

1 Star for the Sandwich, Another 2 Stars for the Sandwich Encore
jgrego-651971 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I can't help but think this movie is a metaphor for life: sometimes there is a sandwich on the table, and other times you were hoping the sandwich might come back and bring the kind of joy only a phantom sandwich could.

Wait.... There was another point to this movie? Don't be ridiculous! The acting was bad. The story made little sense. There were about 21 minutes of the film without a sandwich in the scene.

A few things that could have made this movie better:
  • would have been nice to show some time and date stamps to give some perspective on time
  • more random things you see on a door bell camera, like kids ding-dong-ditching, dogs being nosey, door dash delivering - dare I say - sandwiches
  • show the door cam belonging to anyone else but this woman... as long as there are sandwiches sometimes.

  • just make a film with a constant shot of a sandwich, with less of this acting

All in all not a terrible movie.

Cheesy.

All in all not a terrible movie.

(This paragraph is a sandwich)

So bad I had to write a review
sha_darim-540-3875213 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Now, I have never written a review. And I've watched some bad horrors, my friends used to make a weekly habit of finding the worst horrors to watch for giggles; Sharknado, Mongolian Death Worms etc. This one tops them all! Bad acting and terrible plot aside tho, if you make a drinking game over each time you spot a change to the sandwiches (we named them sandwich 1, 2 or 3), the location of the knife, the wine glass and smoking cigarette, the bleach bottle that turns into a petrol can on and off, then you'd have a pretty great drinking party. I gave this move a 2 for giggles only, but don't watch expecting entertainment gold!

I came for the sandwich
wadecoulter31 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I watched 15 minutes of this movie and then turned it off but after reading the reviews I had to go back and watch the rest.

The promise of a sandwich did not disappoint! Not just 1 sandwich but 3! Re making itself in every scene. At first I figured maybe someone might take a bite but I don't think it would have mattered. Just like the girl who never dies, this sandwich would never die.

I'm glad I went back and finished the movie, that sandwich wins best supporting actor every day of the week.

Yes definitely this should win the award for the film with absolutely no continuity whatsoever.

Don't know how to rate this movie
pahvou16 May 2023
I found this movie interesting only because of items that kept appearing and disappearing. The entire movie took place on a front porch, and the main item was a sandwich. The sandwich first appeared as two halves on a plate next to a bottle of water. In a following scent it was gone. They shortly after that it appeared again only half was missing. Then it disappeared again only to reappear, this time again as a complete sandwich. There was a similar routine with a bottle of bleach. One scene the bottle was visible. The next scene it was gone, then it would mysteriously reappear again. The main point of the movie wasn't that interesting. In fact, it was stupid. So I had assumed the twist, or the surprise was the reappearing items, in some way or another. Nope. The movie ended and that was that.

Wasted Opportunity
JonnyDR7528 May 2023
What a waste of a great subject on such a poorly executed movie. This could have been the next Paranormal Activity, except the writer/director made such irrational choices for the characters, and included such outlandishly stupid circumstances, that the entire movie comes across like a sketch comedy spoof of what could have been a terrifying, very relatable horror movie. My only hope is that another horror movie based around the concept of a doorbell camera is still a possibility despite the existence of this movie. I think it's worthy of another shot by another filmmaker who has the talent to make something good of it.

Now You See Me 3?
mhanna-0967622 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Not sure if any of this is a true spoiler but marked it to be safe.

I thought this was supposed to be a kind of extra low budget Paranormal Activity meets Nest Doorbell movie but it turned out to be a movie about magic. The supporting cast consisted of a bottle of bleach, a pack of smokes, bottle of water, and a sammich; all of which vanish and reappear randomly throughout. The knife tries but manages to move slightly from one scene to the other. Best magic show since Penn and Teller!

Scene: Bleach and smokes are there "Jeff?" ((Jeff aims for the fence)) ((Lights go out and we get night vision)) Bleach and smokes are gone ::MAGIC::

10/10 for supporting cast of inanimate magic objects -2/10 for continuity and awkward guy selling his household items.

And WHY does every "found footage" movie need to do the screeching sound, static, video disruption thing?

Good Effort
jessmoutray9 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Good run time for the subject matter. Some decent practical effects and even a couple creepy moments.

Spoilers Below!

The script and performances were far from award winning. 90% of the practical effects could have been achieved without the repetitive flickering screen. The sales man should have either come up a 3rd time to lean into the joke, or not have him at all. Many shots should have been cut sooner due to actors stopping instead of continuing to exit frame completely.

The lack of continuity with the food I can buy in to. I mean, if the premise is that the place is haunted then stuff moves all the time. If anything it was good for a laugh. What DID bother me was the plastic clearly sticking out of the side of the frame a good 5-10 seconds before the "corpse" gets pushed onto the lead actor.

Glad I watched. Will not watch again.

I've seen worse but not many
kmcnamara-1821812 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Just pretty poor all the way around. I guess they figured every other kind of camera had been used for a found-footage film so why not a single security camera. At least there isn't any shaky-cam footage which is nice. But the whole promise is ridiculous. If you've decided you've committed a crime immediately in front of the security camera, at some point one of them would've said "hey, we should probably delete all that video that shows us actually committing said crime". But that would've made this movie not possible so we have to suspend that amazing flaw in logic.

If you like the Paranormal Activity franchise, you will like this.
sheldonmaddux12 March 2020
I'm a big fan of the Paranormal Activity movies, so I was hoping this would be similar. It was! But still unique, which is rare for movies these days... It's a simple setup with characters that are likeable, and all shot from one perspective - which is the safety camera on a doorbell (I think). That's a risky move, and it paid off. There's a low frequency/bass sound that is unsettling, and it has you scanning the screen to see where and what is going to appear. Because the characters are likeable, the tension is there, and it makes you wonder wtf is about to happen to them. If you can't appreciate slow-burning, scary movies - then you won't like this. If you like unique takes on the horror genre, then give this a try.

Solid short film
strangenstein28 May 2023
Unknown Visitor features a small cast of, er, unknowns (at least to me). There are no fancy special effects, the camera never moves, and there are several long static shots. Even within these limitations, Unknown Visitor works up a spooky atmosphere, with the dread slowly increasing as the story unfolds. The filmmakers don't answer all the questions, which leaves the movie with a nice feeling of unease. I counted at least four good scares, with one of them giving me a real jolt! The movie clocks in at 52 minutes, which is the right length. Any longer and Unknown Visitor would probably become an unwelcome visitor. Kudos to the entire crew for making such a good little fright fest.

Surprisingly effective for using only a "doorbell cam" to film, but not that good.
WisdomsHammer22 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know if I can actually spoil this movie by saying anything you don't know from the synopsis or the trailer, and if you're reading this, you've probably scene those. Anyway - possible spoilers ahead.

First of all, this isn't a good movie, in my opinion. I don't think it's quite worth your time. But I will say that they did some things better than I thought they would do. I didn't think they'd be able to make a found footage doorbell cam horror movie and not have it feel like a staged play. In my opinion, it never felt like a stage play to me, and I give them kudos for that! The acting was passable. Not good, but passable. The comedy relief guy wasn't very effective. The body that kept showing up was more hilarious than he was, but unfortunately, that was unintentional. There were some creepy and fun moments in this, but overall, it's just not an effective horror story. There isn't really any story. We get some backstory on the two main characters but the "ghost" isn't clearly explained. There are parts that are supposed to be scary where you can barely maybe see something in the yard, but don't know what it is. The running time of this isn't even a full hour, yet it felt long.

This did prove to me one thing: It's possible to make a movie using only a doorbell camera. A better story might have saved this thing. Maybe. I liked the creepy handprints and the body that kept showing up after they got rid of it, but the expositional scenes were a little too long, the comedy relief traveling salesman guy could have been a lot funnier, and the creepy factor could have been turned up way more. There were moments that were supposed to be creepy where it may as well have been someone in a sheet walking along in the yard so far away you could barely see it.

Here's a spoiler for sure: The creepy lady's face at the end and the guy's head getting bashed into the doorbell cam: that was more of what I would have liked to have seen. So at least they ended it sort of well, even though nothing at all was explained and I didn't feel satisfied after watching.

So, yeah, not good, and not recommended, but I was surprised at how well they did some things. So I give them credit for the attempt.

Is this a joke / or a comedy?
Njinked4 June 2022
What did I just watch? Did they film this on their iPhone ? Wow was this bad. All I could focus on was the sandwich plate and water disappear then reappear in each scene. This was a joke. Don't waste your time.

I laughed for the wrong reasons
xycfvk24 May 2023
I found this funny. The acting was laughable and I couldn't help but point out the 3... sandwiches..? The 3 sandwiches, water bottle, cigarettes, knife, gun, bleach bottle, and wine glass would constantly disappear and reappear. What was the director/writer thinking!? Did he lose his mind when making this? There is no way this is based on true events. Like, seriously, do you really think this is based on true events? The jump scares were pretty mid and weren't very scary. This movie was also very predictable.

This is a great movie if you wanna laugh!

But if you are watching this to get scared, then I wouldn't recommend.

fun found footage
rocioisnotonfire6 March 2022
Y'all take this way too serious. During the lockdown, I stumbled upon Unknown Visitor and had to watch it: amazing choice! It's a pretty short film and I found it pretty fun, it has a few jumpscares and it fends well for a movie filmed on a door camera (I mean...).

Great concept, horrible execution
ernestcastle3 March 2022
The concept here is excellent, but the bad acting, bad directing, and bad, well, everything else sinks it. I like the idea of a supernatural thriller from the point of view of a doorbell camera, but as is often the case with independent films, it was fraught with bad acting, bad directing, bad editing. The concept was great, and maybe a larger Studio with access to better directors and actors will buy the rights and we do this giving it the treatment it's so sorely deserves.

Not good.
jdthomas-8892313 June 2023
Worse acting than an amateur adult film. Zero plot and the worst representation of PTSD. What an insult to Soldiers. The best acting was done by the sandwich. Seriously, they could have expanded the plot just a bit more and had a decent film but the bad acting coupled with an incomplete plot made it probably the worst movie and not worth you time. It's time you will never get back so don't waste it on this. The door bell cam was a great idea and very modern for the tech we have today but it could have been more effective with a more level of normalcy of how a house functions in reality. Neighbors, street traffic, mailman, birds, dogs barking etc. Just not good.

Stupid waste of time.
theseasidechair30 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This has to be the worst film I've ever seen. I fast forwarded the second half of it bc it was so awful! Continuity? There was none! No brains either. When the woman first appeared on her porch was when she should've called the cops! Not feed her! And how many days did they leave that sandwich there?? Once they did remove it & the bottle if water, they reappeared in the next few frames! The same with the bleach bottle. It was there, then it wasn't & then it was back. Jeff was so concerned with Annie cleaning up the blood but I guess no one cared about leaving the bloody knife on the table! It was so blatantly obvious how everything came from the left side of the screen, that part of the porch which was out of view. The dead woman coming from there was too obvious! And the unseen strangler when Jeff was on the steps! Also, he now has a gun which he throws down on the steps. Why have one if you're not going to keep hold of it! Jeff trying to act drunk was laughable, as was Annie when she was crawling around the porch and trying to be hysterical. Both actors were terrible. Even the therapists phone call had no life in it or emotion. Did they just adlib or was there an actual script? I guess the door to door salesman was the comedy effort. What a joke! This film was advertised as a horror. LOL! I love horror but this was garbage. I gave it a 1 rating bc the strange woman standing motionless at the steps was creepy.

It is standard fair "found footage"
dtgurney7 June 2023
The major thing I had against this movie is the number of continuity missteps. The water bottle disappearing then reappearing, the sandwich disappearing and reappearing, the bottle of bleach disappearing and reappearing. I dont know if these are a sloppy job of production and editing crew or if there is something that the director was trying to add some more mystery, a la Kubrik in The Shining, but he is no Kubrik and he does not have the credits to his name to think that he is the skill of Kubrik. The other thing is the whole "found footage" genre. It is so overplayed. Any kid with a cheap camera can make some footage and call it a movie. "Found footage" was cool in the 2000's but in the 2020's it has over played.

On a better note, I think the two stars, Jason Scarborough and Brittany Dunk, were well acted and their performance should not be counted against the shoddy production job. Given a competent production crew it would have added a few more stars.

The only way this movie recieved 3.5 stars is if it was out of 5000 stars.
nurseduzzi12 January 2024
The actors couldn't act if their lives depended on it. I could not watch their tedious... boring... horribly wrote and nauseating scenes. I was amazed this Brittany Dunk has acted in anything aside from this monstrosity. Save that hour of your life and do something that would be more fun like maybe... a root canal, sitting at the DMV, moving, divorce, dieting, stop using swear words, teaching your goldfish tricks, dropping your kids off at college, your kids moving back home after college because the graduated with degree in interior design, stop drinking wine the same week your in-laws decide to come for a month long visit... You got what I'm driving at. STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE!!!!
