The Simpsons have had dark episodes before, but they were always necessary to the plot and had the ability to be humorous. This, this was unnecessarily bleak from start to finish. The opening with the Sea Captain was just cruelty.
J. Stewart Burns should not write for comedy, he seems more in tune with tragic, almost nihilistic cynicism. Even though the Simpsons have wained in the years, this was not at all entertaining.
An Episode of "The Simpsons" that presents a bleak view of technology, life, and society
santifersan24 January 2023
"The Miseducation of Lisa Simpson" is an episode of "The Simpsons" that, unfortunately, presents a depressing view of technology, life, and society in general. While certain shows and movies can give us an optimistic view of these things, this episode, in addition to having a completely out-of-place style for a show like "The Simpsons," gives us a bleak and dismal outlook. Satire should serve as a tool to accept the flawed society we live in with optimism, as it was done in the classic era of the show, not to depress young audiences.
The episode tries to make a point about the dangers of technology and the negative impact it can have on children, but it ends up being overly simplistic and heavy handed. Instead of providing a nuanced and well-rounded perspective on the topic, it comes across as a poorly executed and poorly thought out episode.
Additionally, the episode seems to be out of place with the overall tone and style of the show, which is known for its comedic and lighthearted approach to tackling serious issues.
Overall, "The Miseducation of Lisa Simpson" is a disappointing episode of "The Simpsons" that presents a bleak view of technology, life, and society, and it's not recommended for those looking for a well-written, well-executed, and coherent episode.
