Poor action job, poor scenarios, poor...
marianasgviana11 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I can't say it was a bad movie. But it wasn't good either. During all the time I had this felling that there were something missing. The action job of Giulio Berruti wasn't bad, but I can't say the same from Melanie Zannetti. Their chemistry looks forced. When she looks to him rememberers me a child looking for something magical. The scenarios were poorly designed, their light were awful. The soundtrack were not bad, but there is such great baroque songs to choose instead of these. Maybe opera would sound better in some scenes. The only good thing is that the director and screenplay writer remained loyal to the book in almost everything. It was almost like if I was reading it, but I may say that those beautiful books deserve a lot better and if they want to do at least a good movie, they should put more budget on it. They weren't a teenager romance like Twilight.

5 is meh
vlholden5224 November 2020
Poorly paced, scripted and directed in each segment. I have to admit even in the book I laughed at some the "trauma" Julia faced. It was bad but not so bad as what many women face. Acting was mediocre at best. I loved looking at Giulio Berutti but that can't carry 5 hours Very little chemistry between the leads. Nothing magical with directing at all. Ambitious for the streaming service; just fine more talented people to put these projects together.

Not a passionate inferno, but just some lonely embers
floranocturna4 December 2020
I usually think twice before posting a critical review, but I believe that a review should be always honest and I honestly didn't enjoy this movie very much (or part 2, or 3, which had just more of the same). I know that Passionflix wanted to bring an adaption true to the book to the screen, but unfortunately this movie proves that it doesn't always work like that. Books and movies are different mediums, and what works on the page doesn't always work on the screen.

Even if the actors looked their parts, especially Giulio Berruti as Gabriel Emerson, it wasn't enough to convince me. I really tried not to allow myself to be distracted by his slight Italian accent, but it just kept disturbing me on top of his relatively wooden performance. I can't help it, but a voice and subsequently an actor's accent are a huge thing for me and can either win me over or make me dislike a character altogether. I know that he put a lot of effort into his performance and I value that, but it still didn't do the trick for me in the end. The same goes for Julia, played by Melanie Zanetti. She might have the doe-like appearance required for the virginal leading lady, but her endless staring from her big brown eyes, then constantly lowering her gaze and biting her lip. It all just got old quickly. I was also missing the internal monologues from the book, which added a lot of humour and additional insight to the story. So many scenes just had Gabriel and Julia staring meaningfully at each other, and while the readers knew what was going on inside the characters' heads, it still looked awkward, like they didn't really know what to do except stare and then stare a little bit more. Maybe a voice-over narrator could have added some extra flavour to those scenes.

The one I liked the most was actually Rachel, Julia Barrett-Mitchell. She was positively refreshing and came across really natural. I didn't particularly care much for Paul, played by James Fraser, but that's probably because he didn't have a likeable personality in the book to begin with. I mean, who calls a girl he's interested in 'rabbit'? That's really condescending and would be a personal turnoff for me.

Overall, the movie left me unsatisfied as it felt largely life- and bloodless, like an insipid meal missing the essential spices. I'm well aware that Passionflix is a small and relatively new company aiming to bring romance books to the TV-screen, so the budget is considerably smaller than other companies have at their disposal, but that doesn't mean that one cannot also bring something artistic to life even on a tight budget. Unfortunately, this movie was not a raging inferno of passion, but just a few meagerly flickering embers.

Complete trash
impressivesgirl-3785729 December 2020
This is poorly made and with the poorest acting even for an "erotic/romantic" movie that no one expects to be good. I like this kind of movies, but this one is just pure garbage. I would only play that when I am cooking and not paying any attention to the movie, because it just does not deserve any attention.

Amazing adaptation of a book
renatasbarboza30 May 2020
When I heard that the trio of Gabriel's Inferno (by Sylvain Reynard) was going to be adapted for the screens by Passionflix, I was worried. I had never heard of the platform and was afraid that the production was not on the same level as the big studios. The reality proved to be totally different and the luxury production did not owe anything to the great Hollywood artists. The production, casting, direction, script, photography, soundtrack, everything was perfect in this film, with a big difference from most adaptations: respect for the book and the readers because it was the most perfect adaptation of a book I have ever seen. Wonderful, wonderful work, congratulations to all involved. I will stop writing this review because I already want to watch the movie again.

Positive ratings and reviews 100% FAKE single use accounts using same language. Genuine reviewer ratings for this is 1.4/10 stars

OK this one takes the cake as the most faked positive rated film on IMDB. Just click any of the positive reviews and you will see up there in "lifetime total" number of reviews on IMDB for the reviewers' IMDB history as one film. Everything about this film is awful. the dialogue, the plot, the acting, all cringeworthy.

Somewhat confusing
willians_franco14 August 2020
AVERAGE. The film based on a book. It is intriguing and a little confusing. The characters are in an eternal game of conquest and seduction. I had to read the synopsis before finishing the film to try to understand what it was about and to discover the plot's objectives. I found the film a little boring, tedious and slow, although always curious about the events. So I gave it a median grade in the IMDB rating. I don't know if the book on which the film is based is good or not. Maybe it works a lot better.

It's really really bad
eliltahailu16 August 2020
This movie has been over-rated to the extent that ur wondering if it's the book or the movie they actually reviewed. The book was great kudos to the author but the movie is total crap. For one u will know right of the bat that it's a really low budgeted film. Second, the actors fit the description of the book characters, However the acting was so so bad. My God bad!! I couldn't watch the whole thing, it was really bad. Third the script is basically a direct copy not that is bad but they did skip important parts of the books. Which does seem confusing for someone who didn't read the book. U wouldn't get what's going on. And lastly the terribly similar ending to fifty shades of grey ,as if we would ever forget the sappy ending. It could've ended in a better way than that.

Give it a Chance - it was published b4 50 shades
The folks that are rating this movie so LOW are ridiculous-

The first 1/2 of the book WAS SLOW-he didn't remember her-a LOT of what happened in book was "in their thoughts" NOT vocalized or spoken-

Those saying it was trying to be like "50 shades" is crazy when both books were published 2011 and Inferno 1 month b4 Shades..

I feel the lead casting were right on !! He is very very handsome and she is a cute next door girl look.

Also this is NOT A million dollar budget film company producing it-it is a small time NEWER company Trying to make our books come to life!! And I for one TRULY and heart fully appreciate it and hope it continues their hard work...

Thank you Passion Flix for helping "our dreamy books" come to life...

Did all you 10/10 reviewers actually watch the same movie I did, or were you all paid off?!
jillousey14 August 2020
I'm a fan of the books, and yes I know it was originally Twilight fanfic. If you know that going in it shouldn't be an issue, or hold it against the film. Despite that, I was disappointed in these movies (at the time of this review I've seen part 1 and 2). I had heard that the script was very true to the book - I agree that it is and that's mostly a good thing. But there are too many things wrong to give it a fully positive review. So. If you start with 10 stars and subtract 1 for each issue:

-1 for acting. The actors playing Gabriel and Julia have very little chemistry, and neither one of them are particularly fantastic on their own. Not the worst, but I wasn't wowed. Almost everyone else just seems to be flat. Ironically I most enjoyed the portrayal of Christa, who is supposed to be one the worst characters in the books. -1 for directing. How many times can you adoringly (yet somehow blankly) stare into someone eyes and then shyly look down and back up again? So much angst, and the tone and delivery of certain lines went a very different way than in the book. -1 for lighting and set design. The color palette of this movie is just blah. It's all dark and muted colors, except for a couple of outdoor sweeping landscape scenes of the university in the fall. The interior scenes have no dimension, everything looks like it was shot in florescent lighting.
  • 1 for casting. Two words: Gabriel's accent. He's supposed to be American! At no point in the book does it say or even infer that he has an Italian accent. It would have maybe been okay if they added something to the movie to explain why he has a very distinct accent, but that never happens. People who haven't read the books probably won't even realize it, but as someone who's read them multiple times I was distracted by it in every scene.

Will I watch the third installment if it gets made? Maybe, if I can find it somewhere for free. But I'm glad I got a free trial of Passionflix with my Prime Video membership, because these movies aren't worth the 6 buck monthly fee. I feel bad for the author, the books deserved better.

Painful to watch
njuguna200720 July 2020
The acting and plot are so amateurish, it's painful to endure it. At the end one is left wondering, how did anyone finance this movie?

Gabriel's Inferno Movie 🍿 Part 1 & 2!
ellireid30 May 2020
I've been waiting 10 years for this! 10 years! And it was so exciting to see my favorite book reflected on screen. Tosca has taken SR's book and included every important detail from this first part! The intro was beautiful with the perfectly matched music and art from the book paired. The sets matched perfectly, and Julia and Gabriel were represented so well by the Actors. I want to keep this review spoiler free, but I can tell you as a long time reader and fan of SR's writing, they all did a wonderful job working with the budget they had. I was pleasantly surprised and this has been the best Passionflix release I have seen thus far! Thank You all! Iris-Elli Muse, fan, Slore, Argyle Empire, elliedgasmswoon. Edited post Part 2! Love the continuation if the story, her pajamas, the music including another Matthew Barber song, the chemistry between Guilio and Melanie, and All the "Kiss me A lot!" Moments! Sales of Pj's and purple towels rise everywhere. ;-) The seminar, the lecture, the dinner and the Museum, all done to perfection! Looking forward to the 3rd and final part of GI and then on to Gabriel's Rapture! Praying filming can safely resume in this Covid-19 era.

It was GOOD but some parts were RUSHED
pinkandhugs2 June 2020
I read the book 8 years ago and have read it about 5 times. The producers put a lot of detail in this movie. However, some scenes like the club scene felt awkward and rushed. One minute Julia was dancing then quickly she was with with Gabriel against the wall. I needed more buildup! The chemistry in the orchard scene was incredible and flowed well but in other scenes, the chemistry felt forced... I hope were the second part they include more parts of buildup and don't rush the romantic scenes. I loved the orchard scene because it was tender and they acted it so well! I hope they take this as constructive criticism.

Honest Review
jarjusarah5 April 2021
Decent movie I expected more but I wasted 6 hours of my life by the end of the 3rd movie I was honestly disappointed and not impressed whatsoever one of the descriptions said it was going to be like fifty shades when in reality it really WASN'T. DON'T WATCH THE MOVIE IT WAS HORRIBLE AND I MAINTAINED A COUPLE OF PALPITATIONS THROUGH THIS EXPERIENCE OF WATCHING AND I HOPE NO ONE GOES THROUGH WHAT I WENT THROUGH 😀✋🏾

Poorly made and cringy
Emsebums24 August 2022
I have not read the book and maybe it's a good adaptation. However, this is not a good movie the actors have zero chemistry, the writing feels forced and is quite frankly not good. I don't even recommend it as a movie to make fun of with your friends cause there are better options. Don't waist your time on this.

Also what's up with the clothing? He drives a tesla but they dress like it's 2007, why?

A perfect book to screen adaptation!
FSMeurinne29 May 2020
Having read the books and being a fan of them for years, I really wanted the movie to be like the book, as every reader expects every adaptation to be, fortunately this movie was produced by Passionflix with the author Sylvain Reynard completely involved in each step of the project, making this adaptation simply perfect. Every detail in the book is on screen, each phrase is spoken, each song heard and every emotion felt. Simply a great romance story brought to life with each actor portraying their character and nailing it to perfection. Giulio Berruti and Melanie Zanetti did a terrific job, words can't never express how thankful we all are with the whole cast, crew and production, their committed showed and their hard work is reflected on screen. Simply a movie everyone needs to watch and books that will become a classic that every reader should experience.

IMDB really needs to vet these ratings, In no way does this movie rate a 5 let alone a 10. The characters had no chemistry, it was uncomfortable to watch. I will never get the 2 hours wasted on this film back.

Stays true to the book
andreald-285052 June 2020
The movie was great. I read the book and i can say that i was very satisfied with this movie. Everything that happened happens in the book and i love that. It really shows that they did put a lot of effort for this movie. Actors were amazing, principally the leads. Totally recommend this one. Waiting for the part 2!!!

Lots of incontinenties Warning: Spoilers
There were a lot off inconsistencies in this movie.

Gabriels Sister says they never met. But they have been friends forever? Kinda weird but ok.. Then she says he didnt remember me? Hmm why would he if you never met him?

Then we go back 6 years and they did meet?!? The whole meeting is odd.

I stopped watching.

Great adaption, poor acting
strawberry_ik28 September 2020
I created this account just to leave this review because I couldn't believe people were raiting this movie a 10! I'm a big fan of the books, I was excited when they annouced the movies. They did an amazing job adaptating the book, it felt like I was reading the book all over again. The cast also *looks* like the characters but... The acting was so awful!! It was hard to finish the movie just because I cringed so bad with the acting, every "tear" they cried I felt like I was watching a project made by a teenager. At one point I was falling asleep because the chemistry betweet Gabriel and Julia was non-existent. I don't know if I can bring myself to watch part 2 and the poor acting.

Terrible Movie Making
greencreek-9611025 December 2020
I watch all three parts of Gabriel's Inferno. I'm at a loss of understanding how these films got funded. I'm shocked there is a market for B Rated Romance films of this poor quality. The love affair is unbelieveable. These stories don't need to be told. No one's life is this boring or SLOW paced. Sorry people, but if you find this work entertaining, you have a lot of research to do. There are sooo many great love stories out there. Please dont watch these three films.

Great adaptation
aros-0033829 May 2020
Passionflix did a great job casting and adapting the book. If you've read the series many times like I have, you will notice the adjustments/creative licenses, but overall it's a very good movie. I am looking forward to seeing the rest of the story come to life in the subsequent parts.

1 star is too generous
xibalba3317 June 2020
This could've given The Room a run for its money in the so-bad-it's-good department if even laughing at it wasn't so damn boring. I would've turned it off after 5 minutes, but it was like looking at a train wreck and I was multitasking anyway. Awful. Not a single redeeming quality. If you must watch it, make sure you have a lot of weed and a friend to ridicule it with.
