SCTV Pays Tribute To The Extras In Movies
Jimmy_the_Gent431 July 2019
A lot of funny stuff, it begins with Edith Prickley doing a promo for the special on extras. Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis play extras who just stand around until they leave the room but have their hands out to be paid.

There is a funny commercial with Ella Fitzgerald (Tony Rosato) listening to Rick singing "All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth" and cannot tell the difference between live and memorex tape. This is a parody of an actual commercial then airing with Ella and Chuck Mangione.

Angry critic Bill Needle looks over viewer mail. one person calls him a fruit.

Another of the running gag of "Taxi Driver" parodies this time with Dick Cavett, who treats the "Are you talking to me?" scene as his usual intellectual discussion.

Great White North is about exercise but all Doug can do is bend a wolf pelt back and forth.

Sneak Previews, a show with movie critics Siskel and Ebert (Flaherty and Thomas) review a new Star Wars films "Empires Are Girl's Best Friend" which shows cheap laser F/X done to peppy music. Robert Altman has a new film based on the comic strip "Henry" in which a kid never speaks but we see thought bubbles. This was a parody Altman's version of "Popeye".

Hawaii Five-Ho is a new cop show with Don Ho as the star. He is the one that gets booked.

"Hollywood Salutes It's Extras" begins with Kirk Douglas (Flaherty) hosting. There are funny scenes of Andrea Martin in a gorilla suit talking about once having the honor of being brushed aside by Frank Sinatra. Tony plays a extra who does some sight business like pointing but no lines. The credits roll over some movie scenes along with SCTV clips.
