Sex & Nudity

  • We see a painting of a nude woman and man.
  • In one scene, Jenny states that she is a virgin to a female friend and tells her that she wants to stay that way until she is 17.
  • When Jenny tells David about her wishes for her virginity, he tells her he respects that, but asks to see her breasts. She agrees and pulls down her nighty. We only see her bare shoulders. David then pulls her straps back on and says "Thank you" while giving her a hug.
  • On the night she wants to lose her virginity, David and her are seen sitting in bed (clothed). He pulls out a banana and asks if she wants to get the messy part over with (meaning breaking her hymen with the banana before having sex with her). She shrieks, "David, I don't want to lose my virginity to a piece of fruit!". She says the mood is gone and that they'll do it tomorrow. It is implied that they do, but nothing is seen or talked about.
  • Minimal kissing, between two characters seen from across a room. They are in bed: she wears a nighty, he's shirtless.
  • References are made to protecting from pregnancy.

Violence & Gore

Profanity

  • The girl calls a group of clients "negros"
  • Two or three exclamations of "hell." The British profanity "bugger" makes an appearance. God's name is sometimes misused. "Crikey" is blurted out, too.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Jenny, Helen, Marjorie, and others, smoke cigarettes frequently, as was common at the time (1960s)
  • Alcohol is infrequently present.
