Finally Netflix did it !!
Tww605511 September 2023
When it comes to live-action adaptations of anime and manga, Netflix's history does not shine. But the new series based on Eiichiro Oda's best-selling manga, One Piece, manages to break this trend. The Netflix version delivers a remarkably fun experience, surpassing previous attempts to bring anime and manga to live action. With well-made stylistic changes and captivating characters, the series keeps the promise of the original material. Whether you're a fervent fan of One Piece or a beginner like me, there's something captivating here, and maybe this series will make you believe more in live-action adaptations of anime and manga.

My dream comes true
sarathshiner2 September 2023
During the pandemic times at the year of 2020, is started an YouTube channel. I have started giving voice over for all hollywood movies within 20 mins in tamil language. And my dream was to convince Eiichiro Oda to make a live adaptation and myself wanted to give voice over in it. And now seeing it with my own eyes, I couldn't believe that this is actually happening at the year of 2023. Let my dream flow through this series casts and crews.

I think this is the ultimate success for Netflix. Seriously this is a bold move. Thank you Netflix and oda for bringing out anime into live action. This might inspire other best anime series as well.

8th episode ended very well, and they made a convincing great job to cut the 80 episodes into single season that too with 8 episodes. This might be useful for someone who really like to watch onepiece and not able to because of the lengthy episodes.

If I received a crazy miracle wish, that what would be the one which I like to forget in my life? I would happily say that I wish to forget all the 1074 episodes till date and watch it over again orrrrr wait??? I can still rewatch the entire 1074 episodes again lol...

Netflix's Live-Action Adaptation of One Piece: A Must-Watch for Fans and Newcomers Alike!
makelyking3 September 2023
If you're a fan of anime, you have probably heard of One Piece, one of the most popular and longest-running anime/manga series of all time. And if you're a fan of the series, you might be wondering whether the live-action adaptation on Netflix is worth watching. As someone who has been a fan of One Piece for years, I can confidently say that the live-action adaptation is a must-watch.

At first, I was skeptical about the idea of a live-action version of the series. I mean, how could they possibly capture the essence of such an epic adventure on the small screen? But I was pleasantly surprised by how well it was executed. The attention to detail and performances were impressive, and all the episodes were amazing and fun to watch.

One of the things that impressed me the most about the live-action adaptation was how true it stayed to the original story. As someone who has read the manga and watched the anime, I was pleased to see that the live-action version captured the essence of One Piece in a fresh and exciting way. The characters were just as lovable and quirky as in the original, and the story arcs were just as epic and engaging.

Overall, I highly recommend the live-action adaptation of One Piece on Netflix. Whether you're a die-hard fan of the series or a newcomer looking for an exciting adventure, you're sure to enjoy this amazing adaptation. So grab some popcorn, sit back, and get ready for a wild ride!

Season One Review
southdavid13 October 2023
I will be the first to admit that Anime and Manga are the biggest blind spots in my geekdom and I had no idea what "One Piece" was even about prior to starting this adaptation on Netflix. I had my eye on it though, and the positive reviews convinced me that I should try it. I'm glad I did as I enjoyed this series quite a bit.

Monkey D. Luffy (Inaki Godoy) is an enthusiastic young man, looking to find the mythical treasure "The One Piece" that will make him king of the Pirates. As he goes, he recruits other individuals to his cause including Nami (Emily Rudd) a thief and map maker and Roronoa (Mackenyu) a master swordsman and former Pirate hunter. Luffy and his "Straw Hat Pirates" make both friends and enemies as he tries to begin his quest and is pursued vigorously by Vice Admiral Garp (Vincent Regan) whose Marines are the scourge of all pirates.

What's not instantly apparent from the series is that, beyond the colourful sets and costumes, there's a real fantasy element that came as a surprise to me. I won't specify precisely what I'm talking about, so any other complete novices, like me, can have the same surprise but it really opened up the possibilities of the series when it happened. There are also background fantasy elements such as certain characters being anthropomorphised animals that is never even discussed, until it becomes a plot point. It might have been insufferably twee in the hands of another production team, but I really think that there's something about the balance that they get spot on.

You still might not care, but I was totally committed to the series due to how earnest and open-hearted Inaki Godoy plays the lead character. It's an enthusiasm that just drags you in and there's real chemistry between him and the rest of his crew.

I really enjoyed it and am happy it's done well enough that it'll be back for at least one more season.

Surprise of this year for me
christianschumann2 October 2023
I am not a Manga fan, I know nothing about that genre, which might be proven by the fact that I actually liked the Cowboy Beebop adaption. So I went into this season knowing nothing. The first 10 minutes of episode 1 almost made me turn it of because that exposition was.... well, strange. But man, did it pay off to sit through this. This show is really great, refreshingly different from the other stuff out there. Yes, it is sometimes a bit simple, but it all works so well. Well written, interesting characters with nice background storys and mostly good motivations. A fun story with nice twists, a lot of action but still enough great character moments. Great effects, sets and makeup. And those ideas and over the top villains.... I couldn't stop grinning, especially during this last episode. So nice to see this crew together. Reminds me on the first season of Stranger Things, not with respect to the content, but with respect to the quality, fun and effect on me. Can't wait for season 2. Disney and Marvel should take a look at this.

"Finally, I get to cut something."

Warning: Spoilers
(712-word review) This was an excellent finale to the season! I'm already in dire need of another one; I need it now! WE need it now. This is why the concept of time machines exists: to give hope in one's existence to watch the second season and every other one afterward right away. I know bits and pieces of what will likely be covered - bits and pieces of sand, even; lots of sand in two ways, not just concerning the location - but not so much the overall story and moments within that story arc, though I know certain characters who'll be introduced; two characters specifically. A woman and a man, Mrs. Hat and Mr. Hook; however, it won't mean anything out-of-context for those new to One Piece. If you're familiar with the manga or anime, you'll immediately know who I'm talking about. And, of course, the character who was teased at the end.

The second season will likely be incredible for many reasons. For starters, this one was the introductory phase; the story arcs were "tame" compared to everything that comes next, in addition to how one of the main focuses was the working towards and establishment of the Straw Hats with each character introduction, bringing them together; therefore, that's been done here, leaving plenty of room for them as a crew (but also individually) that we undoubtedly desire and will enjoy immensely moving forward. Not only that, there should be that budget increase you can usually accurately expect with subsequent seasons of a show, on top of the experience gleaned by everyone involved with this first one, from the actors to all the departments/crew, that will assist tremendously; hopefully, most of them are brought back if not all.

Everything (at face value, as anyone can look hard enough and find things to dislike or manufacture those things) landed - for me, at least. Everything was perfectly executed. Other than Zoro and Sanji's fight sequence having noticeable VFX blood at certain parts with some instances of the choreography looking like they should've had more impact, which was still easy to look past, and their banter was great, Luffy vs. Arlong was fantastic, especially Luffy's final two moves and the last move in particular - a lot of money, time, and caring effort must've gone into that - the moment when Luffy came out of the rubble and everyone's reaction, complimented by the musical motif from Nami's theme song playing, was equally fantastic.

Circling back to Zoro and Sanji's fight sequence, specifically against Kuroobi, that dive into the water and rapid movement through it and subsequent out-of-water tackle on Sanji by him was super great. My only complaint would be the lack of stuff like that: the lack of water utilization and Fish-Man Karate by the Fishmen. That somewhat diminished it, making it a bit generic; in all fairness, that had more involvement in making it stand out, not the VFX blood and low-impact-looking choreography. It would've been nice if the fight choreographer(s) devised an efficient way to incorporate more of those things with the cannon fodder Fishmen.

But the final scene before the teaser, from Luffy's gift (or the crew's gift) to Nami, then her/their gift to Luffy of the actual Jolly Roger (which I'm assuming was done by her; I don't remember that part from the manga - or Usopp may have done it), to even further heights with everyone declaring their dream and the splicing-together of their past selves, topped with Zoro's hilarious taken aback reaction (it's my headcanon that it wasn't scripted and that was merely Mackenyu's reaction) to all of them wooing/whooping, was so much better, and everything else was already good; what a phenomenal scene. And all the reactions to Luffy's bounty, from Makino to Kaya to Zeff to Buffy to Garp to Shanks, were an appreciatable addition and very anime-like.

This conclusion was satisfying; every plot thread was wrapped up nicely, and the way it ended was silky smooth, even more than Zohan's hair-dressing, allowing that same smoothness to be present with the transition into the next season. And hell, I'll bump up my rating for this finale to a nine out of ten; an eight got the point across, but nine was right there - ripe for the taking.

Into the anime world
Rajit_thebingewatcher25 September 2023
Finally, Monkey D. Luffy has a bounty on his head, and Shanks is happy. It's such an absurd series, but it's so good that you'll finish it in one go. The characters are well-written, carefully chosen, and you'll be fully immersed in the pirate world. The last part pays homage to the first part where all the characters were introduced. The team manages to close the circle in the climax. Luffy,Nami ,zoro, kobi all have been provided a character arch and its believable that they will behave this way. The grand line is shown as grand as it can be and one piece as the ultimate goal. Even each props have been given special trait such as "DEVIL FRUIT".

It's a lovely series to start if you're looking to get into anime. Maybe I'll start watching more anime after this.
