Though this episode is not the strongest of season openers, it begins the fifth season of House in a solid way. Wilson returns to work after a 2 month absence in the wake of Amber's death only to announce that he is resigning. The episode's main character-driven plot revolves around everyone giving Wilson advice on what is best. In House's case, he responds as is to be expected and Cuddy tries to reconcile the two friends. The contained medical 'mystery' is not as strong as the surrounding drama, though it makes some poignant remarks about Dr Hadley/Thirteen's reaction to her Huntington's diagnosis. Sidebar: Kudos to the cinematographer of this episode, some beautifully framed shots contribute to the subtle ripples still moving following Amber's death.

gimme back the mysteries not that it ain't good

its nice , house returns after a long time , the episodes have obviously moved away a lot from medical mysteries to soap operas with the patients just bringing out new angles to highlight the personalities . . .

the sense of overbearing gloom is unavoidable , Wilson's character shows depth and naturalness , house thankfully is the same , the sarcasm has if anything got better

most of the people will hate it , i liked it coz house still remains my favorite polymath

p.s. : medical mystery is OK , not bad

Wilson announces his resignation and House spends the rest of the episode calling him an idiot. Cuddy plays therapist and makes House and Wilson sit in her office to hash things out. It doesn't work, of course. There's the usual sick patient of the week, but it doesn't hold a candle to the drama of Wilson's imminent departure. Lots of references to the departed Amber, maybe a few too many. Plus Amber's departure at the end of last season was overblown melodrama that is best forgotten. Not a particularly strong episode, all things considered. Methinks House has run its course. The next few weeks will tell.

Something New

Yeah.The excellence in diagnosis was still there. The funny duel between Kuddy and House was there. Usual sarcasm was also there. Only 2 moments of brilliance, house was able to find what was wrong with the patient. There was something more. The ending was amazing. First time in 5 seasons House was cut in. The last dialog was the most surprising dialog among the all episodes.

This is House MD at its best. But I am worried coz after Cameron and Chase may be we are gonna miss Willson too. I would be very happy to get all these characters back. I start liking Thirteen a bit but rest two are yet to convince me. Eagerly waiting for rest of the season.

In this review I will only chart the course of this episode without spoiling any critical issues happening.

With the season 4 finally in mind, the first episode of the brand new season didn't actually blow me away. But in addition it didn't bore me at all too. This regular but pitiful episode starts two months after the season-finally-happenings, when Wilson returns to the hospital obviously after having had a two months break. When Wilson tells House he's resigning the hospital, House is driven into a corner. It seems House doesn't rule over Wilson anymore as Wilson is plainly affected by the death of his girlfriend. To even let Wilson know House indeed has some emotional issues about the whole thing, House needs to open up, show some regret and start to act like a true friend. At the end of the episode you know if House succeeded.

With this episode being a very regular one, the theme is obvious. House is very rude and not so subtle as we know him. If it will shed you some tears, will be clear in the end. Of course the episode also contains another thin storyline concerning a patient, ...and 13.

I celebrate the return of House and I'm very curious about the things coming up this season!

This is exactly the episode that I was afraid of at the end of last season. I knew writers would resort to something like this, I wish they didn't. They could have done better. House became the culprit, blame games and the unnecessary focus on Wilson. It is horrible. They took the life out of this episode. Whatever house did was much more than a human could do. Was it his fault? Come on what were you guys thinking? You are making Wilson look like a selfish jerk and House like a insensitive, cold human. That is not the reality. I am really very angry after watching the ending. Season 5 got off to a terrible start. Absolutely pathetic start and went on the predictable lines. Very bad. Hope the next ones are not like this. 20% sentiment and 20% sadness is OK but you filled the bottle with 100% agony sucking the life completely. For those who didn't watch this episode. Watch it with thick skin. This episode will make you VERY ANGRY.
