Aly Michalka has snagged one of the recast roles on The CW's “iZombie,” a show representative told TheWrap. She'll play Peyton, the roommate and best friend to the show's main character, Liv (Rose McIver). Previously, the role was played by Alexandra Krosney (“Last Man Standing,” “Surviving Suburbia”). This casting represents a comeback to The CW for Michalka, who was the lead on the network's one and done cheerleading comedy “Hellcats” in 2011. She has also played recurring roles on “Two and a Half Men” and “Phil of the Future.” Also read: ‘iZombie’ Co-Creator Rob Thomas Explains Why He Pulled Pilot Screening From Comic-Con In.

Chicago – Fox’s “I Hate My Teenage Daughter” is so horrendous that there were rumors, after it was picked up by the network and pilots were sent out to press last May, that the network heads might change their mind and decide not to air the show at all. That would have been the nice to do to the American public. An easy choice for the worst new show of the year (especially now that contenders “Free Agents” and “How to Be a Gentleman” have been axed), this offensively bad sitcom should be canceled before Christmas if Santa gets my wish list.
Television Rating: 0.0/5.0
Almost as if they’re going for a record number of unlikable characters, “I Hate My Teenage Daughter” features two single moms with their own serious issues with self-confidence and parenthood dealing with their awful offspring in unbelievable ways. ABC seems to be sticking to its strategy of running original scripted series in the summer, putting on the fast track a new project from feature writer Greg Poirier (National Treasure: Book of Secrets) and Grant Scharbo and Gina Matthews, the producers behind ABC's recent summer series The Gates. Steve Shill, who just won an Emmy for his directing work on Dexter, is reportedly attached to direct the pilot for the untitled spy drama eyed for next summer. While it has received a script order, there is already talk about 3-5 back-up scripts. And feelers have been sent out to writers to join the potential series. The project, from ABC Studios and Scharbo and Matthews' Little Engine, is a female-centered spy show described as Taken meets The Bourne Identity. ABC had mixed results with its original scripted series this past summer: Canadian import Rookie Blue was the top-rated new scripted...

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the third announced today. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on ABC.
The Alphabet solidly finished this past season with five of the top fifteen highest-rated TV series in the key Adults 18-49 demographic - "Grey's Anatomy," "Lost," "Desperate Housewives," "Dancing with the Stars" and "The Bachelor". Yet there's an obvious concern that the network has been floundering a bit when it comes to new shows - especially in terms of scripted drama which has been its greatest strength in modern times.
ABC had success launching four comedies last year, with both "Cougar Town" and "Modern Family" becoming ratings hits and the latter drawing critical acclaim. "Hank" outright flopped, but "The Middle" did well enough to get renewed. With reality shows it continues to do strong business...

We've got a bunch of TV news tonight: It appears that Bob Saget is coming back to television with an unscripted travel show entitled "Bob Saget's Strange Days". Perhaps tired of just being the disembodied voice of grown-up Ted on How I Met Your Mother, and looking for something different after his failed sitcom Surviving Suburbia, the series will find Saget exploring off-beat portions of American society. The series is apparently an extension of his standup themes involving offbeat people. Also, a long-lost Star Trek pilot was recently discovered by a devoted German collector and is now coming to the original series' season 3 Blu-ray on December 15. The alternate pilot, according to the THR Live Feed, is apparently in "three parts with 1970s-style act breaks, an entirely different version of Captain James T. Kirk's opening monologue ('But now a new task. A probe out into where no man has...

It looks like The Goode Family and Surviving Suburbia won't be surviving. ABC confirmed that Friday night's airings of both episodes season finales are in fact their respective series finales. I've sampled both series at one point or another in their runs, and this fate was inevitable.
It was great seeing the "other" Bob Saget get some TV time, but Surviving Suburbia just wasn't good television. Maybe if you're a television fan who's never seen a family sitcom, then the formulaic plotlines and dialogue won't bother you. In a way, I had the same problem with The Goode Family.
However, with the latter, it seemed like they had the potential to grow into something better. I think in the beginning they were too bogged down by their schtick: a family of do-gooders, recycling and living green and all of that crap.Continue reading It's bad news for The Goode Family...

At today's Television Critic's Association summer press tour, ABC Entertainment President Steve McPherson conceded that two of the network's freshman sitcoms wouldn't be coming back for second seasons.
The Goode Family is an animated series from King of the Hill's Mike Judge, David Krinsky, and John Altschuler. Featuring the voice talents of Judge, Brian Doyle Murray, Dave Herman, Linda Cardellini, and Nancy Carell, the sitcom follows a working-class family who, despite their best efforts, find it difficult to live politically-correct lives.
Surviving Suburbia stars Bob Saget as a father who lives in a typical suburban household but can't seem to find much that makes him happy. Castmembers of the sitcom also include Cynthia Stevenson, Jared Kusnitz, G. Hannelius, Jere Burns, Dan Cortese, Lorna Scott, and Lyndsey Jolly.

All five of last year's Emmy rivals for best comedy actress are back in the race and seem likely to return on July 16: Christina Applegate ("Samantha Who?"), America Ferrera ("Ugly Betty"), Tina Fey ("30 Rock"), Julia Louis-Dreyfus ("The New Adventures of Old Christine") and Mary-Louise Parker ("Weeds"). Since the TV academy is expanding this category to six contenders this year, that means there's room for one more. Don't count out Amy Poehler just because "Parks and Recreation" hasn't scored big with TV critics and Nielsen viewers. Unlike the previous three Emmy derbies, nominees will be chosen by a popular vote of members of the academy's acting branch – and, of course, Poehler is hugely popular. Personally, I'm rooting for her to get in. Poehler told Gold Derby that there will be no "diva clawfest" between her and former "Saturday Night Live" costar Tina Fey (last year's champ) if they both nab noms,...

After several low-rated airings on Wednesdays, "The Goode Family" has been shipped to Fridays, with ABC forming a sure-to-be-low-rated comedy block on the night. ABC announced on Friday (June 5) that effective next week, "Surviving Suburbia" will air at 8 p.m. on Friday nights, followed by "The Goode Family" at 8:30. "Surviving Suburbia" had previously been paired with "The Goode Family" on Wednesdays, but ABC pulled the Bob Saget comedy after a lone airing and decided to go with a double-dose of the animated Mike Judge series in the 9 p.m. hour. This past week, that strategy yielded an estimated audience...

Veteran TV showrunner Kevin Abbott has sued Twentieth Century Fox Television claiming that the studio owes him $1.38 million for improperly withholding payments and suspending his overall deal during the 2007-08 WGA strike.
According the breach of contract lawsuit, filed Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court, Abbott was let go along with many other top writer-producers during the opening days of the strike. But he claims his deal with 20th TV "was markedly different from the contracts of many of his peers" and "specifically protected him from suspension or termination based solely upon a strike."

The alphabet network has pulled the Bob Saget sitcom after just four episodes. The show was attracting nearly 10 million viewers, so what's the problem?
Surviving Suburbia centers around Steve and Annie Patterson (Bob Saget and Cynthia Stevenson), heads of a typical suburban family. But, unlike the idyllic sitcom dads of the past, Steve has a cynical view of everything around him. Others in the cast include Jared Kusnitz, G. Hannelius, Jere Burns, Dan Cortese, and Lorna Scott.
Originally slated to air on the CW, ABC picked up the sitcom for a midseason run. Suburbia debuted on April 6th to 12.16 million viewers and a 3.2/8 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The second installment slid to 11.25 million and a 3/7 in the demo. The most recent installment (on April 27th) hit a series low of 9.91 million and a 2.4/6 rating/share. ABC have unveiled several shows that will make a return next season. While some such as "Grey's Anatomy" and "Desperate Housewives" are predictable, one bubble show that has been rumored to get the ax actually made it. "Ugly Betty" is renewed for a fourth season.
Noticed missing from the list are "Samantha Who?" and "Scrubs". The former was a strong starter in fall 2007 but has continued receiving a decline in rating and eventually shelved to give room for other shows. "Scrubs" meanwhile, had lost Zach Braff but insiders are saying that the execs are working things out to bring back all the main cast and cut the license fees to rev up the show for a ninth season.
Others still in the twilight zone are new shows such as "Better Off Ted", "The Unusuals", "Cupid", "Castle", "Surviving Suburbia" as well as the now off-air "In the Motherhood". ABC will announce...

The popular Full House sitcom left ABC in 1995 after eight seasons. Flash forward 14 years later and House star Bob Saget has returned to the world of sitcoms and the alphabet network. Surviving Suburbia has certainly had a rocky journey to primetime but now that it's here, will it stick around?
Surviving Suburbia revolves around the Pattersons, Steve (Bob Saget) and Anne (Cynthia Stevenson), a normal couple that has been married for 20 years, have two children and live in a typical suburb. Unlike the sitcom dads of the past, Steve has a cynical view of everything around him. Others in the cast include Jared Kusnitz, G. Hannelius, Jere Burns, Dan Cortese, and Lorna Scott.
The sitcom was originally slated to start airing on Sunday nights last Fall, as part of Media Rights Capital's deal to lease the CW's Sunday night airtime. During the Summer, Mrc made some changes and decided to hold Suburbia until midseason.

It's hard to hear anything about Bob Saget (who played the squeaky-clean Danny Tanner on Full House) these days without being reminded that he has a "raunchy" side, but his Surviving Suburbia co-star, Cynthia Stevenson, did just that when she stopped by TV Guide Network to praise Saget's casting in a role that is not all "warm and cozy." The actress says the series is a true skewering of a frustrating, 18-year-old marriage.

In the past, NBC executives seem to have expressed support for "Heroes" and its chances for a fourth season. But that was until recent weeks when audiences have dropped to record lows. Monday's episode of "Heroes" drew just a 3.8 rating/6 share, according to Fast National ratings from Nielsen Media Research, the lowest numbers the show has ever received. That comes a week after it scored its previous record low, a 3.9/6, in numbers that continue to inch downward. In fact, "Heroes" hasn't had an uptick in the ratings since March 2 when it kicked up 2 percent to a 4.5/6, but it fell 9 percent the following week, and has been edging down ever since. "Heroes" did have some tough competition including a strong premiere from the new Bob Saget sitcom "Surviving Suburbia" on ABC, which ...

ABC's Bob Saget-starring Surviving Suburbia debuted to a solid 12.16 mil, the best bow for a comedy series since October 2007, when Samantha Who? (14.9 mil) showed up in the same plum après-dwts time slot.

Chicago – ABC’s “Surviving Suburbia” was originally supposed to air on The CW but the network that found a home for “Stylista,” “13: Fear is Real,” and “Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants” decided to leave this Bob Saget sitcom off their schedule after their deal with the show’s production company fell through.
Television Rating: 0.0/5.0 It should have ended there. “Surviving Suburbia” could have been one of many unaired pilots and the world could have moved on. But ABC swooped in and picked it up. The only question worth asking is why anyone at ABC decided to give this horrible show a second chance and how many weeks it will be on before it goes back into the development hell it should have stayed in all along.

I’m almost tempted to recommend “Surviving Suburbia” just so you can appreciate what other sitcoms do well.

The generic family sitcom made Bob Saget a lot of money, as did celebrating the infinite comic possibilities of pets getting drunk and people getting hit in the nads with wiffle ball bats. Then, Saget spent over a decade trying to bury his "Full House" and "America's Funniest Home Videos" Good Guy persona. Assuming that you've forgotten the short-lived WB comedy "Raising Dad" (and Kat Dennings probably hopes you have), dating back to his memorable cameo in 1998's "Half-Baked," Saget has mostly cultivated a raunchy and rude, distinctly R-rated image. And you know what? It's worked. I don't think about...

Toronto -- It's looking like traditional big spenders CTV and Global Television will be part of a three-network face-off this year at the Los Angeles Screenings.
In the latest sign it has raised its game in the competition for U.S. series, Rogers Media said Tuesday that it has acquired two mid-season ABC series -- the Bob Saget starrer "Surviving Suburbia" and "In the Motherhood" with Cheryl Hines and Megan Mullally -- for its midseason lineup.
Toronto-based Rogers also picked up the NBC mockumentary "Parks and Recreation," which stars Amy Poehler. That came a day after the Canadian broadcaster snagged NBC Universal's Jay Leno talker for its fall lineup.
Key to the Rogers purchases is that all four series will be simulcast in the same time slot they hold on U.S. networks. Canadian broadcasters pay a premium to studio suppliers for simulcast rights to maximize audience and advertising revenue.

ABC announces the premiere of new half-hour comedy series, "Surviving Suburbia," starring Bob Saget and Cynthia Stevenson, on Monday, April 6 (9:30-10:00 p.m., Et), following "Dancing with the Stars." In the family-centered tradition of "Roseanne" and "Home Improvement," "Surviving Suburbia" opens the curtain to follow Saget ("How I Met Your Mother," "Full House") and Stevenson ("Men in Trees," "Dead Like Me") as Steve and Anne Patterson, a seemingly normal couple who have been married for 20 years, have two children and a cookie cutter house in the idyllic suburbs. But Steve maintains a rather cynical point of view on family, friends, neighbors, society -- pretty much everyone and everything -- as he tries to survive suburban life.

ABC has picked up the Media Rights Capital comedy "Surviving Suburbia" and scheduled the series to run after "Dancing With the Stars" in April.
"Suburbia" was originally planned as a midseason addition to the CW's Sunday night block. When the CW elected to pull the low-rated block from its lineup, Mrc told producers to continue shooting in hopes of attracting another buyer.
"We were halfway through production and terrified they were going to shut us down," said executive producer Michael Hanel. "Mrc had just started exploring other options they said we want you to do all 13 episodes."
The collapse of the CW block turned out to be a blessing in disguise. ABC quickly stepped in and rescued the show, giving it a significant promotion. The series will premiere April 6 at 9:30 p.m. behind "Dancing," filling the slot vacated by "Samantha Who" now that the Christina Applegate comedy is moving to Thursdays.

Bob Saget's homeless "Surviving Suburbia" may have found a new residential neighborhood. According to Variety, ABC is in talks to pick up the Media Rights Capital comedy "Surviving Suburbia," which stars Saget along with Cynthia Stevenson, Jared Kusnitz, G Hannelius, Jere Burns and Lorna Scott. "Surviving Suburbia" was originally ordered as part of Mrc's Sunday night programming deal with The CW, which planned to premiere the show in March. The CW/Mrc deal was a major ratings dud this fall and The CW ended the pact in November. The trade says that production on "Surviving Suburbia" continued despite its uncertain future...

This season, struggling network The CW came up with a grand plan to sell its Sunday night lineup to someone else to program. Media Rights Capital was the highest (or perhaps only) bidder, and they filled The CW’s Sundays with shows like In Harm’s Way, Easy Money, and Valentine, which didn’t do any better in the ratings than The CW’s Sunday night programming did—in fact, they did much worse. Yesterday, The CW sent letters to affiliates saying they were terminating their relationship with Mrc effective immediately. Sunday nights will now be filled with reruns of current CW programming, old episodes of Jericho, and movies. At least one Mrc/CW show might yet survive—Surviving Suburbia, starring Bob Saget, was supposed to premiere in the spring. It’s being pitched to other networks as we speak in the hope that someone else will pick it up.
