Nothing like taking a vacation away from it all. The trouble is that some folks find that when their vacation is over, they need another vacation to recover from it. The Jetsons encounter such a predicament when they come across old flames still burning brightly. H&H will ensue! After a long 1-hour day of pushing a button... huh? George Jetson finally gets to call it a day and head home. Yes, he says he spends 1 hour a day, two days a week at his job. Consistency? Never heard of it! Meanwhile at home, Elroy, Judy and Astro plop in front of the TV to watch their favorite game show, The Galaxy Guesser Game with Gus Guesser. On today's show, Gus will be making a random call to someone who, if they answer two questions correctly, wins the surprise prize! So he randomly dials Venus-1234...The Jetsons' number! Jane answers the phone as well as answers the two surprisingly convenient questions correctly, thanks to Rosie and Astro, and she wins the grand surprise prize! What is it, you may ask? A weekend cruise on the Love Rocket! That's right, it's a take on The Love Boat. Hey, they already did a Fantasy Island tribute, why not The Love Boat? Personally, I would've liked to see them do Spelling's other hit and call it Georgie's Angels, but I digress. Now, much to Astro's chagrin, pets were forbidden from this cruise... so Elroy stuffs him in his suit case and takes him along as they head off to board the fabulous Love Rocket for a romantic weekend in deep space.
George takes advantage of this opportunity and goes for a jog around the deck where as bad luck would have it he runs into his ex-girlfriend from high school: Sally Spaceout, the hyped-up cheerleader. As if that weren't enough, on the other side of the ship, Jane runs into her old ex: an aging nerd-turned-rock star, Blinky "Boy-Boy Nova" Sunspot. Great names these guys have. Well, as you may have guessed, Sally still has the hots for George, as does Blinky for Jane, and feel no qualms in driving this point home by endlessly harassing them. George can't get a word in edgewise to say he's married and Blinky apparently wants to steal Jane away. It isn't long before Elroy and Judy notice what's going on and decide it's up to them to save the day. They put their heads together and come up with a brilliant scheme to drive away the would-be home-wreckers...unfortunately it doesn't work, and George and Jane continue to be plagued by their infatuated stalkers. Romantic weekend, indeed! But maybe there is some light at the end of this tunnel, for as Sally hides in an escape pod to catch George, Blinky coincidentally hides in the exact same pod to catch Jane, and they end up catching...each other, and wouldn't you know, it's love at first sight. So now with that all settled, maybe the Jetsons can finally enjoyed their hard earned vacation. But what about Astro? Well, he escapes from the state room, incognito, and crashes the costume party, which only had 3 other entries: Judy as a princess, Elroy as a knight and Unnamed Extra as a chicken. Astro wins because he looks like a real dog. In a cartoon, I guess. So in the end, it all works out: Blinky and Sally get engaged, and George and Jane confess their love for each other. Elroy and Judy confess their love for their parents, and Astro loves them too...Awwwww, what a sweet ending!
Good episode. Not a strong plot, but a good story and fun to watch. It takes the classic running-into-the-old-flame-in-the-most-convenient-of-places cliché and plays it out nicely. It's also nice to see Judy and Elroy work together to help their parents. A shame we didn't see that more often, because they actually make a good team. Elroy's got the brains and Judy's got the looks. Not much apart, but together it can move mountains. But anyway, if you're curious as to how George and Jane ended up together, take a look at what they used to date! This has got to make three steady boyfriends from Jane's past: Bunky Binxton, Flash Flotsam, and now this Blinky goofball. Thank goodness fourth time's the charm. I recommend "The Vacation"! Terrific twists and turns, a good story and a true fan favorite!
