very Nice Parodies of two nice movies and 2nd best of the season
kenindia923 March 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Its a very nice parody of National treasure and Da Vinci Code............ my 2nd best episode of the new season where....1st is Mypods and Broomsticks....................Very nice parody of maggie being a good child to bring peace to the world.....and to the end of the episode Bart being the evil child who destroys the cathedral with the help of Setan.........there are many other funny moments throughout the episode.....including puzzles and cryptic clues parodies..and eclipse scene with kent brockman losing it on live TV....plus making fun of solar powered equipments

......I will highly recommend it to everyone.....one of the best parodies by simpsons ever

the Description of the show is...

Lisa infiltrates a convent in order to steal back Maggie who was accidentally taken in by nuns. While in the convent, Lisa uncovers a series of cryptic clues leading to a hidden jewel in Springfield. With help from resident history buffs Principal Skinner and Comic Book Guy, Lisa sets off to find the coveted prize. But Springfield's Freemasons are also hot on the trail of the jewel, and Lisa must race against them to find the jewel and rescue Maggie.

I know people are complaining about simpson not being as funny as they had before........come on guys its 20 years they have been on air the longest in the history.......they cant make you laugh every single time.........and there have been some not so funny episodes in the past as well.....they run out of ideas some times and has to fill the gap with some nonsense........let us see how long they can hang around...still worth to watch

Utterly delightful and funny

This episode of probably Lisa heavy plot reminds us how The Simpsons writers uses parodies and adventure mystery to create amazing episode. A laugh out loud episode. The cultural references makes it even more amazing.

Pathetic, simply pathetic

Warning: Spoilers
Most season 20 episodes are awful, and this one is no exception. Long story short, Homer's negligence leads to Maggie being taken in by nuns, Lisa tries to get her back while Homer tries to fool Marge into thinking Maggie's still there, while Bart does the same for Lisa.

The plot is disgusting, Lisa, while trying to get Maggie back, decided that hunting for a lost jewel will somehow, magically lead her to Maggie for some reason. Next, to solve a clue, she enlists the aid of Milhouse, who has nothing, but then Lisa solves the riddle mere second later with no help. Not joking, unfortunately, it literally only takes her three seconds. No, wait, it gets worse. In order to fool Marge into thinking Lisa's still him, Bart dresses as Lisa to make Marge think that he's her. Now, the problem is, Marge is temporarily blind due to staring at the sun during an eclipse, so what was the point of the cross dressing? And then, Marge confuses Bart's cruddy saxophone playing for Lisa's jazz, despite the fact that it's supposed to be Homer who hates Lisa's regular music and confuses bad playing for good. Finally, and this is worst of all, after Maggie is pretty much proclaimed the second Christ by the nuns, Marge bursts in demanding Maggie back. "How did she know to come?", both Lisa and the viewers ask, well get ready, because the answer is...word's can't describe how awful Marge's answer is: "A mother knows!" Really? That's the best they could come up with? The writers were clearly just being lazy there, especially considering that Marge was fooled earlier by a fake hand puppet and a needlesly cross dressed Bart. All in all, it was a pretty bad episode, don't watch it. EVER.

Brilliant!! So Good
e_daneva6 January 2024
Gone Maggie Gone is an amazing episode. I have watched 14 other Season 20 episodes, and there was 2 bad, 4 okay, 4 good, and 5 really good. This episode is one of the many really good episodes. Gone Maggie Gone is just so great. I wholeheartedly agree with another review on here saying that this was the second best episode of the series while MyPods and Boomsticks was the best. This episode just contains great laugh out loud humor. My favorite part was the anagram part. The episode might not have had the best storyline, but this is still one of the best Middle Age ( S11-S20 ) episodes. Believe it or not though, this isn't the best, because even thought the Simpsons haven't been at the top of their game on the middle age, they still have some great episodes in that period. Season 20 is turning out to be a good season. It's an improvement from the last season, and I think here the Simpsons are making a comeback. So far, I would rate this season a 7.0. Out of 10. But I'm scared for next season. Season 21 is when most fans say the Simpsons completely fall apart. Well, I think that the Middle Age of the Simpsons is underrated. The Simpsons aren't good, but they aren't bad. They're okay. They got some lackluster episodes and some boomers. This is one of the boomers. This episode is really really good, and I think you should give it a try. If you like Golden Age Simpsons, then you would like this. If you think that all Simpsons episodes past the Golden Age are bab, then check this episode out. I personally think this is a great episode, and in all, I give this a 8.5 out of 10.

Gone in Absurdity
santifersan17 July 2023
The episode "Gone, Maggie, Gone" is well directed and written, but the fact that it focuses on the Simpson family without providing any explanation is what makes it absurd, surreal, and nonsensical. Let's say that an episode of The Simpsons necessarily has to center around the Simpson characters, but if the storylines become increasingly absurd and fantastical, it loses its coherence. I am not against the introduction of fantastical elements or storylines in the series, as long as it makes sense to center them around the Simpson family.

In conclusion, while "Gone, Maggie, Gone" showcases strong direction and writing, its reliance on an absurd and inexplicable storyline compromises its overall coherence. It serves as a reminder that even in a show as imaginative as The Simpsons, there needs to be a balance between fantastical elements and maintaining a sense of narrative coherence.
