Mitzi Gaynor: Razzle, Dazzle-Will Put You in A Wonderful Frazzle ****
edwagreen5 August 2009
Excellent documentary on channel 13 dealing with the career of Mitzi Gaynor.

I remember her movies "There's No Business Like Show Business," as well as "The Joker is Wild," and of course "South Pacific." She really anticipated becoming a huge star after that one, but when that didn't happen, she turned her sights on television and was the television industry fortunate for that to happen.

With wonderful production numbers, a caring husband, who was her agent and producer as well, with vivid colors, and an array of talent, Ms. Gaynor has given us a lifetime of memories.

Her show with 100 guys was remarkable. The pacing of the show was terrific as everyone rightfully heaped praise on a remarkable performer.

Mitzi does dazzle

Entertaining and flashy which should come as no surprise: one because of the title and two for anyone who has ever seen Mitzi, the woman loves sparkles, rhinestones and bugle beads. The running time is a bit misleading for anyone who wants the full experience of the documentary. The initial part of the show is a documentary that does run about an hour with interviews and little snippets of shows however the extras run about the same length and that is where the real bulk of Mitzi performing is contained. Both parts are interesting and feed into each other, probably best to watch the doc first since it gives background on the numbers and the work that went into them so that it adds an extra dimension to the musical performances when you watch them. Mitzi comes across as a nice, high energy woman who loves what she does and there is a lot of talent on display.
