It's a complex mystery.
Sleepin_Dragon8 March 2020
The two cases reach their climax, the tragic death of the young girl is explained, and the case of deaths in The Jewish community are also solved.

Has Harry made a mistake and mixed up DNA samples? Causing the most fundamental of mistakes?

I thought it was quite a good second part, it highlighted the differences of the Orthodox community, but perhaps there was a lack of sensitivity from Harry's part? It's an intriguing watch, graphic once again, the bleach scene was nasty.

Some nice touches of humour, Harry certainly had a dry wit.

Pretty good.

Multiculturalism Season
retina_scan28 December 2021
So it seems like this season is one dealing with different ethnic or religious groups, perhaps more than any other in the past. We had one story about knife crime and the black communities, one about Muslims and terrorism and now the Jewish Hassidic community. I'm not that familiar with this group to be able to tell how fair their portrayal is, but the story is being both sympathetic and critical of aspects of the community - but both of these views voiced by characters outside the community (DI McKenzie and Harry, respectively). Ron Cook is excellent as the rabbi.

As for the secondary story, I never like this when they do it in Silent Witness, including another story unrelated to the first one feels like a filler-in and a distraction from the main story.

A good, enjoyable episode, with some good twists, but not among the strongest ones.

Nobody's Perfect, nor Should They Try to Be
Hitchcoc25 March 2019
The Hassidic Jews featured in this episode have centuries of pain and have developed a belief that all things can be handled by them within their own realm. The problem is that in our relatively permissive society, these rules are awfully hard to enforce and control. Because one of the Rabbi's children is gay, he is drummed out of the family and seeks those who are really the enemy. There is so much more. Harry gets a strange result on his tests, but because he overlooks a third party, it is thought that he is responsible for a false arrest and a disruption of life for the Jewish people. This is such a fine show, even if it slightly misses the mark.

A Difficult Ending
Hitchcoc26 March 2019
Closing this out is as complex as the milieu that the episode exists in. The pathologists have to wade through a series of roadblocks that are part of the history of the participants. The Jewish orthodox people who are victimized are resistant to outsiders working their territory. Their feeling of superiority when it comes to moral actions, makes it very difficult to solve the murder of one of the young people.
