This Star Wars article contains spoilers.
The return of Asajj Ventress in Star Wars: The Bad Batch is an intriguing new mystery for fans, especially those who read of her death in the 2015 novel Dark Disciple by Christie Golden, which is set during the Clone Wars, right before the events of Revenge of the Sith. In that book, she sacrificed herself to save her lover, Jedi Master Quinlan Vos, from Count Dooku’s Force lightning, but just an in-universe year after her death, she’s somehow back and meeting up with Clone Force 99 on The Bad Batch.
So, what’s behind her resurrection? It’s a mystery with no answer from Star Wars. But plenty of theories…
How Is Asajj Ventress Back?
Unsurprisingly, the prevailing theory regarding her return from the grave goes back to a specific moment in Dark Disciple. In the book, she and Vos team up to try and kill Dooku.

This article contains spoilers for "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" season 3, episode 9, "The Harbinger."
Asajj Ventress is dead.
At least, that's what we all assumed right up until the trailer dropped for the final season of "Star Wars: The Bad Batch."
Like many characters on the animated "Clone Wars" TV series, Asajj Ventress -- the wicked Sith assassin turned morally ambiguous bounty hunter -- was a victim of the show's initial cancellation prior to its revival on Disney+. Her plotline was never quite finished, though there were episodes planned to wrap her story up. Those episodes were in pre-production and Lucasfilm even showed some of their unfinished story reels at conventions, but any hope of actually getting to see those episodes quickly fizzled.
Eventually, the scripts for those episodes were handed over to Lucasfilm's book division, and author Christie Golden was given the task of bringing them to life in novel form.

This post contains spoilers for "John Wick: Chapter 4."
Movies and television are, of course, primarily visual mediums; having looks that kill goes a long way for an actor's career. However, one must not discount sound completely — having an extraordinary voice can also make an actor that much more desirable.
One of the world's greatest living voices belongs to Clancy Brown, and he's been handsomely rewarded for it (rightfully) with a lengthy and storied career. Brown's honeyed, dulcet tones have graced the screen in everything from "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension" to "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs," and his versatile character voices have turned up in animation as varied as series like "Gargoyles" and "Spongebob SquarePants."
Director Chad Stahelski is certainly well aware of Brown's prowess as a character actor, including his formidable presence and commanding voice. The actor brings all of this to his performance...

Late actor Lance Reddick, who died from natural causes at the age of 60 recently, had spoken about the relationship between his character Charon and his boss Winston before his demise.
Lance played the role of Charon, the concierge of the infamous Continental Hotel in the ‘John Wick’ franchise. Charon, even though Winston’s man at work, shares a deep bond of friendship and loyalty with him.
Talking about his character’s relationship with Winston in ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’, Lance had said: “The supremely capable, dignified, and helpful concierge, Charon, is Winston’s right-hand man. Theirs is a bond that transcends employer-employee and even friendship.”
The actor added: “One of the things that’s so interesting about Winston and Charon’s relationship is that it is so close. You get a sense that they’ve been together for many years, probably even before their tenures at the New York Continental.

Mumbai, March 10 (Ians) Actor and martial artiste Donnie Yen, who makes his debut in the ‘John Wick’ universe with ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’, said that his character of Caine, a blind assassin is going to be an equal if not greater than John Wick.

Actor Keanu Reeves has shared the experience of working with director Chad Stahelski in ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’. He said: “Working with this core team of creatives who have been responsible for the visionary look and building the world of the John Wick films has been such an honour. I think (my memory is generally terrible) The Harbinger is the first film I have seen where the pandemic has played a big and important part in the story.
In the movie, Monique is currently quarantining with her family during the pandemic. But when her oldest friend, Mavis, reaches out in a state of fear, she chooses to visit her to help out. Mavis is suffering from nightmares in which she can’t wake up from, sometimes even days are passing and a demon – The Harbinger – is the one haunting her. Monique soon discovers the nightmares are contagious and they both must find a way to defeat the demon.

Happy End of 2022 everyone! Once again, the horror world delivered. We got some amazing original stories, some exciting additions to some of our favorite franchises and a ton of singular moments that had us on our feet cheering. This was a hard list to put together because there were simply too many things to celebrate this year. I couldn’t possibly include them all in one summary, but I promise you that I did my very best. Let’s get started!
Hellbender: Hellbender is 150 at the top of my list for 2022. A new film from the Adams crew is exciting in and of itself, but a new film from the Adams crew that is a witchy horror tale that also examines the complex dynamics of womanhood, mother-daughter relationships, and coming into one's own and I am in horror nerd heaven. The horror fandom is one of the most dedicated and passionate cultural communities in existence, with countless conventions, festivals, and celebrations happening year-round — all connected by the mutual appreciation for frightful films. Some may go so far as to call the horror fandom a "family," but in the case of two of horror's most promising young actors, that description is literal. Madeleine and Violet McGraw are both still in their adolescent years, but have given performances in horror films that some adult actors could only dream of pulling off. Oftentimes, memorable horror performances from children are rooted in the "killer kid" subgenre, but for the McGraw sisters, the young performers both shine as hero protagonists.

Horror is, without question, still the backbone of cinema, even as cinema struggles in these uncertain times. This year saw a number of wins for the genre; original movies like Smile, Barbarian, and X and its prequel Pearl achieved both critical acclaim and box office success, and franchises like Scream, Predator and Hellraiser were all reignited with praised returns.
Like last year, there were a lot of horror movies to watch in 2022. This resulted in movies slipping through the cracks as the year continued, and bigger releases held the spotlight.
These ten hidden gems might have been overlooked at the time, but it’s never too late to discover them.

In the years and the decade to come, we’re going to look back at pandemic-era films and see some that were made in the pandemic and maybe made it a small detail in the storyline, while others that really embraced it. Not celebrated it, but really grabbed it and incorporated it into the story. There’s no right or wrong to this, but I will say that The Harbinger is most definitely one of the latter. It’s one of the strongest and most impactful pandemic-era films that I have seen (to say nothing of the fact that it’s just a freaking brilliant film overall).
Written and directed by Andy Mitton, The Harbinger is set during the early days of lockdown. Monique (Gabby Beans) and her brother have come home to spend lockdown with their father. The trio are super careful and are doing everything possible to stay...

The holiday season is now upon us, and it seems only right that we’re heading into December with a brand new Christmas-themed genre movie arriving in theaters later this week.

But that’s not the only new genre movie arriving this week…

Using several real-life characters and situations from Travis' life, Jonathan crafted a story around the inherent drama of being held hostage by conversation, a cue taken from Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf (1966) - which, along with Death Trap (1982), Funny Games (2007) and The Strangers (2008) served as inspiration for the filmmakers.
The next step was choosing a cinematographer. and the obvious choice was their friend Ryan Valdez. His unique style had always stood out and seemed perfect for 8 Found Dead."
Synopsis:
"Two couples drive to a secluded house in the desert for a weekend getaway, each with their own baggage, expectations and secrets. Upon their arrival, they are met by two strangers, claiming to have rented the house as well.

After an unforeseen scheduling setback our friends at the South African Horrorfest picked up their bootstraps and were able to reschedule their annual event for this coming week and a half. While its always nice to be able to hold your event prior to Halloween, during spooky season, we don't think anyone will complain about carrying on the festivities after the hallowed days. This year's festival includes such titles as pnademic-era horror The Harbinger, the documentaries King of Screen and Life With Chucky, exploitation flicks like Mad Heidi and Troma's Eating Miss Campbell. Classic horror flicks Nosforatu, Dracula and The Rocky Horror Picture Show are also in the mix this year. There will also be a sizeable streaming program for those who will not...

“Bodies Bodies Bodies” (Lionsgate): A band of post-adolescent rich kids turn on each other, with violent consequences, in this wildly comic murder mystery. What’s perhaps most wickedly delightful about Halina Reijn’s satire with a body count is the way it plays out like a Gen Z Twitter fights, in real time, with weapons, proving that you can poke at internet culture even in a house where a thunderstorm has knocked out the WiFi.
Also available:
“Bullet Train” (Sony) Assassin Brad Pitt meets many, many other assassins and ne’er-do-wells on a bullet train, and they try to kill each other quickly.
“Beast” (Universal): Man-vs-Nature thriller with Idris Elba trying to protect his daughters from a very large lion intent on protecting his own territory.
“Breaking” (Decal/Bleeker) John Boyega resurrects the spirit of “Dog Day Afternoon” in this true-life bank-robbery drama from Abi Damaris Corbin and Kwame Kwei-Armah.

With snowbound dystopia in Polaris, true crime drama The Stranger and lockdown terrors in The Harbinger, Catalonia’s annual fantasy and horror show keeps the shocks coming
‘Apparently the economy was more important than breathing,” says an astronaut, peering out of her space station window as planet Earth is enveloped by a cloud of lethal gas. This is the absorbing sci-fi chamber piece Rubikon, directed by Austria’s Leni Lauritsch, her first foray into this genre. There was no problem breathing, though, at the 55th edition of the Sitges international fantastic film festival of Catalonia, just south of Barcelona, where the gentle sea breeze never fails to dispel the allergic sneezing that plagues me in cities.
Ecological awareness was in the air, with each film preceded by a “It’s bloody green” public service announcement, reminding us to recycle dismembered body parts and dispose of walking corpses in the organic bin.

Our friends at Celluloid Screams announced their programme for this year's festival. This year's programme is bookended by two Spanish-language films. The Elderly, a film I rather enjoyed this Summer, will open the festival while the much anticipated horror flick, Evil Eye, from our friend Isaac Ezban is slated to close out the festival. Other Spanish-language films include The Passenger, the first film from the duo behind The Elderly, Raúl Cerezo and Fernando González Gómez, and Huesera, the Tribeca award winner from Michelle Garza Cervera. Other festival faves include The Harbinger, Something in the Dirt, Watcher and Holy Shit! There are a couple rep screenings worth noting - Bubba Ho-tep and Evil Dead 2 - but what really has our attention is the Ghostwatch: A 30th Anniversary...

That includes a brand new original from the Bd-powered Screambox, not to mention the theatrical re-release of a horror classic…. in Three Dimensions for the first time.
Here’s all the new horror arriving August 30 – September 4, 2022!
First up, Bloody Disgusting is excited to debut the brand new Screambox Original PussyCake, a gore-fest from Argentina that’s now streaming exclusively on Screambox!

“Not everybody is going to be like ‘Lovecraftian glory hole - sign me up!’” admits Rebekah McKendry (known as Bekah). “But those people will be my best friends.”
She’s talking about Glorious, which recently screened at the Fantasia International Film Festival and is about to become available on Shudder. It’s the story of Wes (Ryan Kwanten), a man fleeing the ruins of his broken life who stops at a roadside rest stop, uses the toilet and finds himself trapped there with someone or something sinister (voiced by Jk Simmons) in another stall. As the story develops, Wes is forced to reevaluate his sorrows in the face of something which could put everything he knows in peril.

The isolation and helplessness some people felt during the prime days of Covid lockdown is utilized to good effect in “The Harbinger.” Andy Mitton’s second solo feature (following two co-directed with Jesse Holland) is a spooky tale in which vulnerable individuals find themselves prey to a malevolent spirit that worms into their dreams, dislodging them from grounding reality.
in XYZ Films’ release to limited theaters and VOD on Sept. 1.
Disturbing, recurrent cries from the NYC apartment of Mavis (Ellen Davis) have gotten complaints from neighbors, particularly a next-door “Karen” and belligerent anti-masker (Stephanie Roth Haberle). When her more-sympathetic building superintendent (Cody Braverman) lets himself in to investigate, he finds the tenant in a state of whimpering hysteria and self-harm — yet asleep. After successfully waking her, he urges Mavis to get help.

The Harbinger Photo: Courtesy of Fantasia International Film Festival
One of the great things about film festivals is that there is always the potential for a film which hasn’t had much prior word of mouth to surprise you. The Fantasia International Film Festival is no exception. It was almost by accident that I found myself watching The Harbinger, the story of a woman (Emily Davis) troubled by strange nightmares and the friend (Gabby Beans) who tries to help her, only to be caught up in the nightmare herself. Set during the period when Covid-19 was wreaking havoc in new York City, it’s one of the first films in any genre to really take on the fear of contagion and the difficulty of living in that situation. As soon as I watched it, I knew I had to speak to the director.
Fortunately, Andy Mitton was happy to oblige.

Thanks to "The Harbinger," I get to ride the Andy Mitton hype train out of Fantasia Festival station a second time — 2018's "The Witch in the Window" was a Donato-approved Fantasia favorite. This time, Mitton proves that Covid-19 horror films don't have to be exploitative or the cheaply manipulative drek filmmakers have already rushed to market. I'm not talking about non-pandemic flicks shaped by Covid-19 production guidelines — more "Safer at Home" or "Songbird," which chose to highlight Covid-19 quarantines as a characteristic backdrop. "The Harbinger" blends its demonic assessment of simply vanishing from the Earth with the still omnipresent pandemic in...

“Face Off” helmer John Woo will receive a Career Achievement Award during Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival, about to celebrate its 26th edition. The Hong Kong filmmaker is currently working on “Silent Night,” starring Joel Kinnaman and Kid Cudi.
“I defy anyone to watch ‘Bullet in the Head,’ ‘Hard Boiled’ or ‘The Killer’ and not walk away wanting to break down the shots and make a movie. His use of camera movement, close-ups, the ways he would block and choreograph, it’s astonishing to look at,” Fantasia’s artistic director Mitch Davis told Variety, noting the “unexpected poetry” of Woo’s work.
“They are such unconventionally soulful films. I wish we could somehow unleash a flock of doves in the cinema when he steps onto the stage. Backlit.”
