Very low budget
gab-675993 November 2021
That being said this movie was not horrible. I loved the brother and he was interesting enough to keep me invested in the movie. Aside from that nothing else was interesting about this movie. The story was just ok, not sure why they threw in that the sis was taking Modafinil (A medication to keep you awake due to narcolepsy). Details matter to me and it was never explained more on why they both kept drifting off like they did. This movie could have been half good at least but it just wasn't.

Rather mundane and pointless...
paul_haakonsen2 November 2021
Well, I will say that "Night at the Eagle Inn" from writers Erik Bloomquist and Carson Bloomquist does start out adequately and the writers do manage to establish a nice enough concept and build-up, but then the movie just collapses like a card house in a gust of wind.

When I sat down to watch "Night at the Eagle Inn", all I knew about the movie was that it was a horror mystery of sort. And with it being a new movie, a horror movie nonetheless, and it having an interesting enough cover/poster, then of course I opted to give this 2021 movie a chance.

And as I said, the movie started out well enough, but then it just slipped down a very slippery slope and never rebounded. And that made for a less than mediocre movie experience, and I have to admit that my interest in the storyline was receding gradually as the movie progressed. So writers Erik Bloomquist and Carson Bloomquist didn't really manage to compile something that proved all that entertaining or worthwhile for me.

Sure, if you are new to the horror genre, then there are things to enjoy in "Night at the Eagle Inn". But if you are a seasoned horror veteran, such as myself, then there is just nothing outstanding to be experienced here. And you might actually want to spend your time, money and effort elsewhere.

The acting performances in "Night at the Eagle Inn" were adequate. However, I wouldn't really say that the performances in the movie, even by the lead performers, was anything to write home about.

Ultimately, then "Night at the Eagle Inn" was semi-watchable, but it is a horror movie that came and went without as much as leaving a lasting impression. And I am sure that I will have forgotten about "Night at the Eagle Inn" come the beginning of next week.

My rating of "Night at the Eagle Inn" lands on a generous three out of ten stars.

It Got The Bad Ending
icocleric11 November 2023
The pacing wasn't great at the start, and the story is one a seasoned horror fan would feel like it's familiar, but it was a decent low budget indie horror film. The acting is pretty good actually, and there are some nice tense and creepy moments. Even though it was a low budget film I think they did well with the budget, because it doesn't look cheap or anything like that.

It's much better once it warms up, and the dark and creepy moments kick in.

The ending could have been better, even if it wasn't at all surprising. It's the kind of ending I don't like as much as the "good ending". It could have been a lot more interesting.

Leaves a bad taste..

Warning: Spoilers
Dear director; if you spend the entire movie getting your audience to like and identify with your main protagonists, don't have them lose to the one dimensional bad guy at the end.

Also, liven the story up a couple of notches.

One true wisdome about close circuit hotel horror movies and that is you are going to hell anyway, either dead or alive outcome, you are deemed to go to hell, and thats what this story is about...

small cast, some nervous winks and oneeyed blinks in the main male actors face, that seemed so tensed at the set.female main a few notches better but no more than average, and thats for the hole cast.

Storyplot takes small pieces and bits from really good horror movies , but fails on the act and slow plot. Its 50 minutes of nada, and the rest is just a hint of a scary movie.if you picture up dantes inferno in 7 levels where 7 is the most hellish level , shells that you only can enter and never leap out of, this comes barely to the second level of frights and purgatorial wrath.

Waking up from a dream in a dream might be fun if done properly but this was not what the grumpy old man came for. A low budgie shot on a wholesale location and sets due to shutdown by covid, didnt make much difference. Better luck next time, and do mention the one eye blink flutter for your next cast.

Don't believe the good reviews
ioannis-voudouris2 November 2021
This film is one of the worst "horror" flicks i have ever encountered.. The actors are bad, lame story and mediocre music. I don't usually bury movies with bad reviews but for this one i believe firmly that the filmmakers stole my precious time. It isn't scary at all and sometimes the actors perfomance made laugh in bad way cause this is not comedy. If it wasn't for the music i would have rated it with 1.

What a boring piece of crap!!!
edlc19702 November 2021
This is one of most boring and lame movies. Nothing happens. Its not scary, its not good acting, the plot stinks. It feels like a b movie, which it is. Avoid this crap or waste your time. I should have watched the painting on my wall dry, rather than watching this crap.

It Wasn't surprising, but i liked it

There are a lot of Haunted House/Hotel movies around.

I stumbled over this one by accident.

I think for the small budget and the Corona Lockdown Situation they made something good out of it.

It wasn't really surpsing and you have heard the story a lot of times, but i think, the acting was good and the atmosphere had it's peeks.

All in all it was a nice little movie that i enjoyed with my wife.

No gore that would have chased her away but enough creepy things to keep us watching.

The acting is OK. The two main actors actualy look like brother and sister. However its hard to catch the plot. To many holes and overly talkative movie. I gave it a four for the effort. Only watch if your stuck for a movie.

The best part of the movies is that it's short.

A fun spooky time.
The_Final_Boy14 November 2021
Talk about an end of the year surprise. I had never heard of this film, nor have I seen a trailer. It popped up on Amazon Prime and I loved the poster for it. I decided to rent it and give it a watch...and I ended up watching one of my favourite films of the year.

Night at the Eagle Inn tells the story of the Moss twins (Sarah and Spencer), who are trying to solve the mystery of their parents. 20+ years ago their mother died in child birth and the father disappeared with no trace. This all happened at the Eagle Inn, where our leads spend the film to find out the truth.

We are thrust into the situation with as much info as the twins, so don't know what is happening as they don't. We learn the truth as they learn the truth. Running at a scant 70 minutes, there is no fat on the bones, nor any subplots that go no where (I'm looking at you Halloween Kills). I was entertained from the first frame to the last. I felt very involved in the twins' investigation. A big help thanks to good writing and an excellent cast. Sarah and Spencer are incredibly likeable. They were flawed people with issues but they loved one another. Their connection was the heart of the film and if this wasn't felt the whole movie could've failed. Thankfully I really felt the love of the twins and I believed all their interactions. The characters are great on their own too. When they are separated they are great characters on their own. It's been a while since I got this attached to characters but I really invested in them. Then we have the mysterious innkeeper and the handyman. The innkeeper is a mystery to us. I never knew where his mind was and or where they were taking the character. I had theories but they ended up being wrong...and the handyman starts off as eye Candy but he definitely becomes more interesting as the film goes on.

I don't want to spoil too much as the mystery was a central part of the film but I was always wondering where the film was going. The film delves into the little details that might scare us. Noises in the night, things in the corner of our eyes, and ghostly apparitions...and the televisions are chill inducing. I won't give away why. This film felt like an old fashioned ghost story. No quick edits or over use of jump scares here...thankfully.

None of this would've worked without the cast. The cast is practically a four person show and each actor is fantastic. Greg Schweers stole many scenes as the innkeeper, while Beau Minniear made the handyman into an interesting and elusive character with a mystery of his own. But the movie belonged to Amelia Dudley and Taylor Turner. Dudley gave an intense, but vulnerable show as Sarah, while Taylor was my biggest stand out. As the openly gay Spencer, Taylor was my favourite part. I loved Spencer the most (plus he is gorgeous which doesn't hurt). Taylor was nothing short of perfect in the role.

The film was beautifully shot with gorgeous cinematography and a winning music score that worked perfectly with the film getting under my skin and giving me chills. This was almost a perfect ten film for me, but what stops it is the runtime. Running so short not everything was developed as far as it could've gone. Many aspects were touched upon but I wished they delved father beneath the surface. I think an extra 15-20 minutes would've really benefited the film, but I recommend this movie whole heartedly. I absolutely adored it and bought it on Amazon prime and I bought the music score on iTunes. You can guarantee I will buy the blu ray too. If you're looking for a good spooky ghost story, you can't go wrong here.

Solid cursed hotel indie horror
ericdsuchyta16 August 2021
Decent little hotel horror movie, with some snarky dialog. I don't think the horror elements are especially original, kind of a mashup up of things from The Shining, Ringu, and Argento films. But it's well enough put together, particularly considering the budget, and it's only 70 minutes. (Seen at 2021 Popcorn Frights virtual debut.)

hardly warrants theatrical release .....
THEgongoozler13 November 2021
Simple story, shoestring budget, low production value, and, no surprises. NIGHT AT THE EAGLE INN (2021), if follows common practice of the business, should go "straight to video" or some streaming services because it hardly warrants theatrical release.

Both the leading man and the leading lady look the part. We may see more of their work in the future in black comedy or other types of movie.

If "people drive to a run down hotel (for a reason) but find out that they can never leave" kind of plot is your cup of tea, please turn to IDENTITY (2003), 1408 (2007) or even BAD TIMES AT THE EL ROYALE (2018). They are much better than this one.

Abysmal acting only supported by equally abysmal directing
Alice_Robersen16 May 2022
Abysmal acting only supported by equally abysmal directing. I should also throw the writer under the proverbial bus as well. The actor twins begin and end the film with the viewer cringing their armchair for dear life. Please save yourselves this irreplaceable time in your finite lives.

Fraternal twins?!
Angry_Santa2 November 2021
Does that mean they're the result of their brother inseminating their mother? Of course not, it just means that their grasp of English is just as bad as their grasp of movie-making.

If only they'd invested as much time, money and effort in making this movie, as they've obviously invested in paying off reviewers - maybe then it'd have been at least mediocre, not the crud which we've been served up here.

The innkeeper is great!
whitings-450223 November 2021
Quick moving story with a couple of truly scary moments. Loved the combo of old fashioned horror hotel with a more modern feel. Gregg Schweers was great as the innkeeper.

Family Night Horror/Mystery
susyq-424024 November 2021
Frankly, I'm surprised that there are so many haters for this film. I enjoyed it a lot and let me tell you why.

The actors were fun with goofy chemistry, which is good because it wasn't meant to be a slasher film. The twins (Fraternal means that they aren't identical, by the way...to the reviewer who seemed to be confused by what this meant.) were extremely quirky but that led to the charm! The innkeeper was very Jack Nicholson "Here's Johnny" at the end and it made me grin. At some point, the cheese is on purpose and fun as hell, guys. There's bad acting and then there's just having fun and I can tell this cast had a great time filming so don't knock it until you sit back with some friends and some popcorn to just enjoy the mystery.

On twitter, I called it a made-for-tv movie because we're limited on words to describe it but I don't think of that as an insult. As a matter of fact, I think it's almost a family friendly movie? It might scare some really young children, but it skirted anything gross or offensive so I think it could pass for a family night movie and there needs to be more of those. Horror should be about more than jump scares or gore.

Frankly, the plot was solid. The cinematography was fun and fit the movie. Actors had chemistry and were enjoyable to watch. Was I on the edge of my seat? No. Were there any jump scares? Not really. But was I invested in the ending? Absolutely. Did I watch past the credits to see the end? Hell yeah!

So for any movie to get me invested enough to watch credits, it was an enjoyable time and it deserves my 8/10.

creepy indie
SnoopyStyle19 December 2022
Fraternal twins Sarah Moss and Spencer Moss are following their missing father's footsteps. Their search leads them to the Eagle Inn in Vermont. Suspicion grows in the eerily quiet isolated hotel.

I like both Amelia Dudley and Taylor Turner. They actually look like brother and sister. The best is Dean. They all have a bit of creepiness. This is a creepy micro indie. There is something unsettling about the quietness of the hotel. Even the old TVs seem creepy. It's only 70 minutes. It probably needs another twenty minutes. The plot is a little thin. It needs another character, maybe a maid. It needs one more thing. I would make the father's disappearance more recent. It would allow for the possibility of finding him, and that would raise the tension. This is a good start.

Atmospheric Horror A+
trickwin-407735 November 2021
I love horror but I despise cheap jump scares and was delightfully greeted by the atmospheric horror found throughout this film! The premise is nice and the acting by the two lead "twins" was honestly fantastic. For me personally I felt like you could actually feel the chemistry and shoutout to the casting for finding two individuals who look related but also in the short film's runtime gave a convincing performance of their investment towards one another.

My only qualm against the film was that certain aspects seemed dragged out and other aspects I wish had more development but such is a limitation of a film with a short runtime that was apparently shot during lockdown so props to them for making the most out of what they were handed to. It would be great if the movie was longer and more development and buildup was shown as some details seemed too implied or details were completely gone if you missed them.

Overall a nice sweet movie especially if you're a sucker for horror, haunted properties as an aesthetic. A fine movie for a night and short enough that it doesn't take up too much time.

Okay...
tazielin-8728017 November 2021
I created an account so that I could post a review for this movie. I own about 2,000 movies on my iTunes so I've seen all sorts. I am a huge fan of horror movies, especially comedy horrors. If you're looking for a good horror movie - this isn't for you. If you're looking for a good comedy horror - also not for you.

You need to go into this movie with no expectations, and you might find yourself pleasantly surprised. I read the bad reviews, I read the good reviews, so I went in with a neutral mind. And I actually liked it...more than I thought I would.

So, if you get bored easily...you probably will give the film a bad review, but if you find yourself not able to fall asleep and looking for something to kill the time, this is a great choice...in my opinion.

Not Bad
aligma73 November 2021
Come to think of it , despite flaws in acting and direction, its not that bad. Just have to lower some expectations.

The twin brother though was over doing his part .

If this movie had a bigger budget , audience might have actually enjoyed it.

Creepy as all hell
indiefilmlove6263 November 2021
Made me grit my teeth. Quite enjoyable. The one guy behaved like a creepy pervy clown. I would uncomfortable along with being scared. What caught my eye was the trailer and the Wednesday like goth chick. The main guy reminded me of the blond guy in Scooby Doo.

Good old-fashioned creepy fun
shandler-264766 November 2021
Fun little horror movie! Slightly over an hour, but you become surprisingly invested during that time. Loved the relationship between the siblings. Excellent casting, they really looked like brother and sister. It helped make them more believable, and you can't help but root for them. The night manager was creeeeeepy in the best way possible. Scary and weird but legit laugh-out-loud funny, and oddly likable at times. The handyman will have you conflicted (is he good? Is he bad?), except for the shirtless scene. All good there.

I have read a few snarky reviews on here, but there's a clear humorous edge to the movie. To me it appears the cast is in on the joke, and having a cheeky time with it!

The film felt like an hour-long TV show, not the highest production value, but entertaining and watchable. It's scary enough to be labeled a thriller, but you can definitely watch it by yourself. No gratuitous nudity, a few curses here and there, but nothing vulgar or embarrassing if you are watching with other people. There is the one aforementioned shirtless scene- but it is necessary for a specific plot point and hey, if the actor wants to leave his shirt off a little longer than necessary, who am I to complain.

All and all, very much worth renting.

Scary Hotel Horror Movie
psr-526156 November 2021
I really enjoyed this hotel horror movie! The innkeeper projects a very creepy & sinister-like individual. If I checked in to the Eagle Inn I'd probably turn around & leave after meeting him. He reminded me a bit of Jack Nicholson in the Shining - scary & evil! The twins were convincing in their quest for answers & kept me on the edge of my seat while trying to find out about their past. I kept worrying about what their fate would be. Dean's role was shocking and the ending was not what I expected at all - such a twist ... just wish it was a little longer.

The eagle night.
morrison-dylan-fan30 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
After finding the feature film duo on the opening day to be very disappointing, I decided to take a closer look at the feature films streaming/screening at GRIMMfest Film Festival. Taken by the delightful Ten Minutes to Midnight (2020-also reviewed),I was happy to spot a new title from the film makers, leading to me visiting the Eagle Inn.

View on the film:

Shot in the middle of Lockdown, the screenplay by co-writer/co-editor (with brother Carson) / director Erik Bloomquist take their earlier kitsch Horror manipulation of time and reality from 2020's Ten Minutes to Midnight, into a deliciously macabre Sci-Fi direction, with the shocks playing on the psychological terror of twins Sarah and Spencer Moss discovering that they have booked in the hotel for a night that never ends.

Accepting the offer of the night manager, (played with a stark contrasting calm by Greg Schweers) the Bloomquist's web the Spencer's (played with a terrific on-edge fearfulness by Amelia Dudley & Taylor Turner) into a wickedly harsh twist ending, which leaves them with the hotel guestbook.

Facing off against limitations of a real location and Lockdown conditions, director Erik Bloomquist reunites with Thomson Nguyen and impressively overcomes all the obstacles with a surreal, foreboding atmosphere ignited in long claustrophobic tracking shots, following the Spencer's sinking into the foundation of The Eagle Inn.
