A very different kind of thriller, just without the thrills...
paul_haakonsen11 August 2013
For a thriller then "Justify" was a really tame movie. The story was predictable and anything but thrilling. And the storyline wasn't particularly convincing.

The story is about Abby Lombard (played by Rebecca Larsen) who is out to get revenge on those who wronged her and killed her father. And Abby will just about go to any length to see revenge dished out.

Actually the story was really dull in the terms of pacing. The movie lulled itself into a comfortable, but slow pace, and never got out from that trance. And as such, the movie suffered horribly, because it just droned on in a monotone trot.

Actingwise, then the people who were in "Justify" did good enough jobs with their characters, they just didn't have an all-out great script to work with.

Also, the movie focuses a bit too much on the whole S&M and dominatrix fetish style, and it is to the extend where it is about to take over the movie. I suppose it is great if you are into that kind of stuff, but I watched this movie in the hopes of it being a thriller and not bordering on becoming a fetish-movie. I only found out about the movies alias title "A Dominatrix Story" after having seen the movie and when I was about to write this review.

There were no thrills of any kind to this movie. And if you are looking for an entertaining thriller, your choice would be better made on a whole other movie than this one.

I only felt justified upon the fading out of the movie and the start of the end credits.

PAIN IS MISUNDERSTOOD

Warning: Spoilers
Abby (Rebecca Larson) is shy and psychotic. She breaks up with men before they can break up with her...so there! She has film of her father who was killed by a dominatrix. She goes after all of those involved by dressing as a dominatrix.

This movie is also marketed under the title "Justify" and "Sweet Karma". Abbey gets close to the dominatrix by getting involved with a portrait painter (Jaret Sacrey) and his model the dominatrix Victoria (Heather Lemire).

I found the film to move slow. You really don't care for Abby who is aloft and is her own worse enemy. You don't really get to know her because you don't care to know her. The camera work was fairly bad as it had a lot of unnecessary movement, i.e. not mounted but hand held. I am not sure what the effect should be other than annoying. Even with a strong sexual theme, I found things rather boring in between the times Abby wasn't wearing her outfit.

There are better kinkier films. Lipstick, 9 1/2 Weeks, or anything with Lucy Lui or by Russ Meyers.

sex, nudity (Heather Lemire)

Garbage. Very poorly directed revenge film

Yes I fell for buying this movie for two reasons.

In my defence I was mistaken and believed it was the superior film with the same name. And the cover...... This had UNCUT edition on the cover and looked kinda sexy and violent.

WRONG.

It's just two scenes of a womans nipples and the rest is boring, plodding, badly directed mess of a film with some really poor acting.

Real low budget cgi gun shot FX.

The Dominatrix element used in advertising isn't really used at all and the film has no real reason to have the UNCUT mentioned. It could have easily been a PG13.

Luckily I didnt pay much but I even begrudge that. It will be sold asap.

The cover art has many images and pics not even in the film.

Outstanding and unique movie with a refreshing premise.

A few days ago I got the chance to see JUSTIFY (aka. A DOMINATRIX STORY). I think the movie is a great example for a unique underground movie. The whole background of the story (the story is set up in the SM – and Bondage-Scene of LA) is very refreshing and interesting. For me as a person who is not into these scene is the movie a good opinion to take a look on a alternative life and love style. The acting is also very good especially because of the fact Heather Lemire as example is a real life dominatrix. This gives the movie a nice touch of reality. I also love the way the movie told his story. Director Insung Hwang is with no doubt one of the most promising young director in the international underground cinema. JUSTIFY is the best proof, that he has a bright future in this field.
