The majority of the episode was so nice and kinda easy-going, ya know? And then...😮 Just trying to process all this information... 🤔 Can't wait to see what's next 😁

A twist and turn episode
Avidviewer-0284712 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The 6th episode in and things are heating up, we now know more about Emily's death. Hoyt's discovery about Mendoza was convenient and it could lead to Micky and Graves involvement since it looks cross border. Matt Barr is perfect in the role of Hoyt, good actor.

Always suspected Geri, there was insincerity when she talked about Emily. What's her motive -- jealousy, laundering drug money...

Walker obsessing about the Side-Step and Mickey and her nagging about the hearing and her mother, was a bit too much. There were a lot of twists in this episode and the Side-Step drama was filler, but not the best filler.

Are Cordell and the kids really buying the Side-Step to convert it into a family establishment? If they go ahead, do they hire a manager and Cordell works there after his day job and on the weekends with the kids? If it was part of a criminal exterprise, Geri might not even end up owning it.

And Trevor and his father - not all the gang is behind bars though being behind bars has never stopped prisoners from paying for hits on the outside. Trevor knows where the Walker's live.

And then Mickey's mother gets arrested on felony charges, the Dr. didn't look surprised. A few too many twists in one episode, are they real or red herrings? We'll have to watch and see.

I'm still enjoying the series.

Gosh those twists! The episode was well balanced between a lot of characters we want to see and get to know. The acting was really well done, and the story overall was intriguing. The last few minutes... hot damn. Not as good as some other episodes, but still one of the better ones!

Unexpected twists!!
dragonardh12 March 2021
Three key stories drove the episode each with their own interesting dynamics and developments. All the recurring characters had fascinating parts to play in moving the plot forward. Good dialogue and some witty banter peppered in between heavier messaging and drama. AND the end!! Wow, twist after twist after twist. Great episode.

Unexpected developments

Warning: Spoilers
How I love this series! In this episode we begin to see some new clues to the mystery of Emily's death! I knew that Geri had something to hide. Cordell's inner torment also begins to manifest itself in all its destructiveness. I am happy that Cordell has someone by his side like Micki, who is really the partner you can rely on. What a beautiful friendship they are developing! All the actors are very good. And the final twist?! Can't wait to see the next episode!

Warning: Spoilers
1st. It was good to see Matt as Hoyt again. 2nd. I know from the original Walker Texas Ranger that Cordell and Micki, end up together but Micki and her fiance Trey are so adorable. And Cordell and Trey being friends when he and Micki somehow ends up together sends so bad, but that's for the future. Tonight, the episode was really good especially the ending. I was not expecting that at all. Great episode.

Twists, twists, twists
Sarah42312 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm so glad the twists made the Teen Romance into an actual plot element. Glad that James & Liam are pursuing leads and that Hoyt is a loyal guy under the bad boy guise. (Abeline KNEW.)

I don't think Walker will appreciate them all being so "helpful" while making decisions for him, though. Look how he reacted to Micki pushing. (She meant well, but) Look even how he hesitated when it was his own momma. (And that's a person who usually gets to push everyone, right?)

Kind of wish we were stepping back from the Two Step. I'm not much into drinking, but maybe if it's a "family" project it will be more a "family place" instead of a dive? But LOVED, LOVED, LOVED (and also screamed at) the Geri twist.

The directing & writing were awesome. The music rocked. Couldn't get a better cast and all cylinders were firing! Just an amazing job on sending a message without being condescending or preachy. This is def not the OG Walker, because what Chuck did wouldn't fly in 2021, but there's still Ranger Pride.

Not as good as last ep, but still solid.
FiendingNemo13 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So, it looks like we're getting into it now. It's going to be interesting to see where they intend to go with Geri's storyline. This was a solid episode, but I didn't enjoy it as much as the last one - I do, however, feel like it's setting up a potentially exciting episode for next time.

I'm fascinated to find out what 'Federal Crime' Micki's Mom has committed - that was a wild and unexpected twist!

It was good to see Hoyt again, and I'm glad that he went to bat for the Walker family. I still haven't forgiven him for standing Abi-Bear up though.

Ideally, Walker should keep his kids locked safely in a barn, because they're going to be the death of him. I have no idea where Trevor's revelation to his father is going to go, but it's definitely not going to end well for someone.

Majority of acting in this ep was good. Lindsey Morgan is currently the absolute backbone of the show, her performance is always on point.

I've got to say, I find the whole Emily thing a little weird; for a couple of episodes, Walker was all about finding out the 'truth' about her murder, but he seems to have dropped it like a hot rock - and now his former partner and brother (both of whom told him to stop looking into it) are investigating it? It just feels odd, even though I guess it's a set up to create conflict between Walker/Liam when he finds out that they've been hiding it from him.

I appreciate that they're trying to create a 'well rounded' character with flaws, but I'm really over the whole 'inept' thing that they have going on with Walker. I'm 100% here for him struggling to process his grief, figuring out how to reconnect with his kids and his wider family and struggling with the parts of his job that are morally grey - that's already a pretty interesting character. I just feel that making a Texas Ranger clumsy, uncoordinated and naive (shoots self with nail gun, can't drive shift, is apparently useless at practical projects, willingly gambles a $50,000 car with a guy he knows for a fact is shifty) is kind of a weird choice. I feel like at least once an episode he does something that makes me go 'how has he never accidentally shot himself?'

Twist after twist whiplash
kstrader-6541215 March 2021
M. Night Shyamalan might not be a good look for this show. At this point the plot lines are trying too hard to shock us. We aren't given anytime to buy into the story or given enough meat to be invested in it before there is a twist. It's like whiplash. It hits your head, not your heart. Ultimately falling flat and leaving me ... meh.

Can't express how much I love this show. I love how everyone has their story in this show, and one is not overshadowed by the other. Great cast. Each with their highlights. They all make the show. Not just one cast member.

Not as good as 5 but I still really enjoyed it
redmckenzi15 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode has a much slower pace than last week's and focuses around the Side Step, the bar that's been a recurring location throughout the first five episodes and has been established as a place Cordell and Emily often hung out. It felt a little rushed at the beginning, with Geri just straight up announcing over the phone that she was selling the bar, but the pacing evens out and flows well from that point as Cordell uses fixing the bar to both work through his own feelings concerning the anniversary of Emily's death and his stress about an upcoming evaluation for his behavior in the pilot (it took me forever to figure out that's what he and Micki were discussing, though, since I couldn't remember the name of the guy Walker beats up). It was really gratifying to see Walker realize that running from or trying to smooth over his issues won't do any good. He needs to own up to what he did wrong and use it as an opportunity to be a better Ranger.

I did find the camping plot with the kids and grandparents to be a little boring but I'm still not sold on Abeline in general and it mainly centered around her. The actress is doing a great job, her character just rubs me the wrong way and has from the start. I'm warming up to Bonham more and more, though! It's interesting to see Mitch playing a "good guy" after only being familiar with him in the role of Samuel Campbell in Supernatural, a character I wouldn't really describe as "good".

Now, the ending. That I really enjoyed. Between the arrest of Micki's mother (definitely didn't see that coming), that Stella's new boyfriend is the son of the man Cordell put in jail when he was Duke, and the reveal that the man in prison for Emily's murder is being paid off AND that the money is coming from Geri (I wanted to trust her but I KNEW she was too good to be true), the end of this episode was a roller coaster! It feels like this may have been planned to be a midseason finale, before the addition of extra episodes that came with the renewal for season 2. I'm really hyped to find out how Geri fits into this. Did she kill Emily? Did she have Emily killed? Why? What would have driven her to murder her best friend? I'm looking forward to seeing Geri fleshed out as more than "Emily's best friend" and "the pretty face behind the bar" as we delve deeper into the truth of that night.

UNEXPECTED
silopez-0364718 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The story gets more interesting as when you believe that all main characters are good they plot make you doubt about it. You believe that you see a teen romance and it is not. I love good dialogues and strong characters and both are in Walker but this episode gives us surprising twists for good. I bought it.

The 5 is for Walker admitting he's bad at his job
yeahoksurethatsfine13 March 2021
Micki is this shows saving grace. Just throwing that out there. The dialogue is hit or miss. The acting is hit or miss. The music is too much. I like that the plot in the first two episodes finally picked back up. I was worried we were just leaving it there. Also, nail guns are literally so easy to use, my shop teacher dad was disappointed. The last twist was good.

Bar None
Prismark1024 June 2021
There were a lot of plot strands some good and some bad.

Walker is accused of using excessive force and this is something that chimes with real world issues. Walker even boasting that he will get away with it.

Walker's boss has concerns that the man who confessed to killing Walker's wife might not be the actual killer. Hoyt Rawlins, Walker's old friend and who is doing time in prison is sent into the man's cell to find out more.

Walker is approaching the first anniversary of his wife's death, he gets the life insurance cheque but is unhappy that his favourite bar is up for sale to developers. I wonder if that life insurance money has a role to play later!

There was so many things happening, there was no central focus to the episode and once again the family stuff held everything back. The introduction of Ramirez's mum was clunky. It was lacklustre and lacked impetus.

Also given the way American episodic television works these days. It cannot be much of a shock that by the sixth episode, there are developments of a story arc which will inevitably have a few shocks.

That might explain the flashback scenes which featured Walker and his wife with Hoyt and Geri.
