SO INTENSE
trevino-197689 April 2021
The plot was crazy in a really interesting way! Had me at the edge of my seat the entire time. I love these characters already, it's hard NOT to be invested in them! And there was some really cool sequences and shots in this episode, especially towards the end. I think this one is better than the last 2.

good writing but more research (and an end to the pandemic) is needed

Warning: Spoilers
I feel like the writing on Walker is getting better with every episode. The characters are really coming to life and earlier episodes' story lines are coming back in new complications and ways. It was nice seeing Micki react negatively to the storm - so often, "strong" female characters aren't allowed to have weaknesses. We've seen Cordell being imperfect multiple times. It's good to see Micki have her own moments. All of the actors were at their best this episode, really. Mitch Pileggi and Molly Hagen put so much nuance into every small interaction, and all of the younger actors put out some of their strongest performances yet.

That said, this episode illustrates some of my continuing issues with the show, and I'd like to know how many of them are due to limitations of the pandemic and how many are ones that they need to bring in consultants to fix.

Some of the tornado scenes were good - others read fake, even if you don't live in the area. In some scenes, their hair is whipping around, in others it's barely moving. And it's a little too obvious that they're shooting on a sound stage, which I know is due to the pandemic, but I look forward to the time when they can have slightly better effects.

Similarly, some of the police procedural aspects are better and more believable. Others still feel like they're hand-waving away anything regulations that would get in the way of the story they want to tell. It would be really nice to see the show get an expert in these things in to advise the scripts.

A lot of these issues may be limitations imposed by the pandemic. I'm sure they can only have so many people on set, and only film in so many locations. I look forward to seeing what they are capable of when the pandemic scenes are over. Perhaps during the upcoming hiatus they can strengthen some of the show's weaker areas.

Kudos to Entire Ensemble, Writers, and Crew
Sarah4239 April 2021
Everything clicked in this episode.

The writing & pacing were great. The videography, underscoring the story. The music adding to the tension.

Just everything working together from the writers & crew.

Same with the cast.

We've reached some understanding of characters, their feelings and rationale for choices. We've reached a point in the story where they've made some wrong choices for right reasons.

And all of that worked together for a solid, amazing hour of tv.

If you've grown attached to the characters (I have), this episode will leave you deep, deep in your "feels."

Fantastic

8 episodes in and it is getting better and better, people that don't like it stop moaning about the episodes and stop watching it if you hate it that much. It comes across that you just want to give it bad reviews and ratings for the sake of it.

This was The Worst Episode

Warning: Spoilers
What is going on with the acting and writing on this show? If Anne Fricke was never planning on making Walker a procedural cop show, then she should have said so. This is like a teen drama. This show uses so many tropes that it makes the show feel so outdated! Where are the cases? The only good part of the show was the scene with Walker's parents, that's IT. From the idiotic trope they used for Liam to lie to his fiancé to protect him to the tough-as-nails female partner all of sudden having a panic attack because of the natural disaster is just plain stupid writing. I am so frustrated with this show! The writing is just atrocious; we need a new show runner and the acting is pathetic. I don't know what is going on with Jared Padalecki, Lindsey Morgan, and even Jeff Pierre and Keegan Allen, but they need to really work on their acting. The only actors who are doing a good job are Mitch Pileggi, Molly Hagan, and Corby Bell. I am telling you this: anytime children on the show outshine the main character, something is TERRIBLY wrong!

Tropes are a crutch for sub par writing.
kstrader-6541215 April 2021
When something is bad, it's bad. And Walker's writing is BAD. This episode was a bunch of dated tropes strung loosely together with poorly delivered, mediocre dialogue. I keep thinking the show will eventually abandon its attempts at faux activism and deeply dive into something, ANYTHING. But since it doesn't know what kind of a show it wants to be, it just continues to be overfilled with weak tropes, never developing a meaty story. Not even the death of his wife is interesting.

Why was Walker mumbling?
Peacheebeez20 April 2021
Are you trying to make him less Sam?! You could hear everyone else clearly except him. I really wanted to like this show but after this appalling episode I'm out. Best thing about the show is the kids' acting, especially the daughter.

Well...

Warning: Spoilers
The acting was fine. Especially the final scene. This episode's failure came in the writing. Having lived in tornado alley, this is not even close to accurate. I know this isn't a documentary and some suspension of belief is normal, the lack of research took me right out of the story. Still willing to hold on through the end of the season, just dont feel as if this show has hit its groove yet.

Fine Is a Four Letter Word
Prismark109 February 2022
With a title like that. Four is the right rating for this episode.

It is the night of the high school dance and Walker finds himself alone.

Not for long, his games night with Micki and Trey is interrupted by a tornado.

They all rush into various emergency situations.

Maybe the episode is a metaphor about stresses in various relationships.

Liam is stressed out because of events in Mexico. Ma Walker once cheated on her husband.

Stella found out more about her boyfriend who decided that you might as well bring a prison visitor pass to the high school dance.

The writing is still all over the place. In fact the I found the kids are written better than the adults.
