Filmmaker's response to 'Dangerous woo" review
psorcher29 October 2023
@Rev_766 It seems like you missed not only the point of this film but also the spirit with which it was made. The movie is not advising anyone to do the things that these people are doing. Quite the opposite, if you actually watched the film.

Moreover, the scientists that are in the film are not taken out of context or misquoted. How would you even know if they were? (BTW, we have never received even a phone call or email by any of them expressing dissent.)

While the film starts out giving serious consideration to the practice of sungazing, it ultimately turns satirical while still showing that the power of belief works in mysterious ways. It also does so with subtle humor, which seems to have not landed with you.

We'll look for that podcast you mention but also know that other reviews/podcasts hailed the film as "one of the most unique documentaries of the year".

Lastly, I don't think the Documentary Channel would have broadcast our film if they felt there were any of the concerns you mention.

This film is both entertaining and educational.

Our world is becoming smaller as our cultures around the globe come into contact with one another, and especially as our information technology unearths aspects of some ancient cultures hitherto unknown. This documentary is a very entertaining and informative expose on just how this is taking place surrounding the little known practice of sun-gazing. Are some of these ancient practices of secretive sects able to somehow be integrated into mainstream society in a modern world? This documentary shows several cases where such attempts are being made and how it impacts their everyday lives. If you love observing people and understanding their wide varieties in how they approach life, this film is one that for sure will give you a good sampling of our emerging modern humanity that is revisiting our ancient roots at the same time.

You wanna get malnourished and go blind? Follow this movie's advice. Keep in mind that all the actual legitimate scientists in this movie have been misquoted or taken out of context. I can't believe none of them have sued. The podcast "god awful movies" has a great review/debunking.
