Wacky movie!
Chartreuse18 October 2021
Ally, a teen, with a controlling mother, Heather, wants to run away from her and moves to another town. Heather is told she drowned there but mom doesn't believe it since they never recovered her body. So what really happened and why? You will have to tune in to find out. This movie has a real twist at the end. Worth one watch......

Beyond Stupid
RNMorton10 October 2021
A tell on lousier-than-usual Lifetime movies is that they have multiple titles. This one was shown on 10/09/21 as "My Daughter's Double Life". The only reason I gave it a 6 is that the acting was pretty good, however maddeningly the story went. But despite decent acting there is such a thing as just too plain stupid.

"A lie is not a twist."---Bob's Burgers
CranberriAppl5 October 2021
I figured out that the "twist" was possible almost right at the start. This movie was the equivalent of Lifetime's frequent "trick" of having a different body type in a black hoodie doing all the attacks to (unsuccessfully) throw viewers off the scent of the actual and obvious villain. This movie has everyone acting like characters from Shirley Jackson's The Lottery only to make the most suspicious ones the heroes. Never mind the fact that Heather (the mom) was being run out of town by these so-called "heroes." There's a twist, and then there's deception. These cult movies are always over the top and come off as "a very special episode," of a preachy tv show. The only thing missing was characters rattling off statistics. Not a single normal character existed in this movie and none of them had personalities. Most of the movie is the mom screeching "where is my daughter?!" and that honestly got tiresome after a couple of times.

Nothing special and not rewatch worthy. Which is a shame bc as an All My Children fan, Jacob Young was the reason I watched, but not even he could save it. I'd also like to add that Fatal Following is probably closer to what's going on here than My Daughter's Double Life, the title under which it premiered on LMN.

Wow...such bad acting
Moviedog264 October 2021
This tv crap is a festival of bad acting in itself. I just can't take it anymore, there not one decent movie out there in the past two years at least. Is all a compilation of bad and terrible movies. Even past good actors have gone sideways and is like someone stole their acting capabilities...aliens have taken over in the movie industry.

Did not seem like a LMN movie - Weird twist at end
mja584 October 2021
*** Saw it as "My Daughter's Double Life" ***

This did not come across as your regular LMN feature, and the plot seemed to be inspired by Alfred Hitchcock! Also, some parts of the movie reminded me of the classic "Gaslight".

And again, the weird twist at the end really surprised me. (Another thing that surprised me was that the mother and daughter actually looked the appropriate age!)

I don't know what title you will see it under, as "Fatal Following" and "The Cult" appear to be others, but it's worth a look.

7/10.

I like to be surprised---and I was:)
ArchFrenemy20 October 2021
Well, that was a kind of cool time-waster. Another pic with many unfamiliar names, but the tale is decent enough, and the surprise does truly surprise. There are of course some plot holes, and I wouldn't have minded a little more follow-up resolution, but...whatever. Lifetime movie fans will have a bit of fun here.

My Daughter's Double Life

Warning: Spoilers
OMG! Mariah was definitely my favorite character in this whole movie! She made me think that she was a bad guy at first and then she turned into a good guy. I was like woah! The way she was engaged in the conversations when the other actors were performing also made the movie seem more real. She's definitely a natural. The movie as a whole was an enjoyable experience. I'm glad that I took time to watch it.

New Beginnings
lavatch8 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
"My Daughter's Double Life" (a.k.a., "Fatal Following," a.k.a., "The Cult") is a film with more sleazy characters than the total number of letters in all the different titles. But a breath of fresh air is Heather Prentice, the mom who is relentless in searching for a daughter who suddenly vanished.

Wellsby is a sleepy little community with the town's motto "Forever Starts Here." The town was intended as the new beginning for young Ally Prentice who leaves her mom and stepfather to escape a stultifying home environment.

One of the most interesting characters is Mariah, the young woman from Wellsby who befriends Ally and enables her transition into a new life. By all appearances, Mariah and the presumed cult leader Bridger have evil designs in bringing Ally into their sphere. The situation seems especially grim when Ally's death is faked and Heather is harassed when she arrives in Wellsby in search of her daughter.

But appearances can be deceiving! The wild card in the equation is Ally's unsavory stepfather, Jack, the pastor of the Fellowship of Righteous Life. Ally is forced to conceal nothing from her zealous parents. Yet Jack himself is concealing the Big Lie about his religious life and community.

The performances were first-rare in this unsettling drama of secrets and lies. The favorite poet of Ally's late father Frank was Wordsworth, whose poems call out for freedom, a commodity that seems all too rare in the hothouse environments evoked in this well-crafted drama.

Good movie, good acting, one shining star'
nlafavor-0582314 October 2021
Mariah was beautiful and wonderfully had me guessing the whole movie! Better than most Lifetime movies for sure, thought I had the plot figured out more than once but due to a great job on screen I was still surprised at the end!

Poorly done
haroot_azarian9 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
OK where to start. First of all before I forget the constant violing background music was very annoying. Like a lot of other LMN movies it seems like the music and sound departments just love to get it wrong!

So this is a movie about running away from a cult and seemingly through a de-brainwashing group. But what is weird about this the de-brainwashing group led by the bearded guy seems to be the actual cult itself. I don't know whether it was done deliberately to make the movie be like a more whodunit movie or what? But it seemed pointless to me.

Another LMN story which is allegedly based on a true story called Crimes of the Mind starring Christina Cox, Tina Ivlev and Paula Trickey was I think much better on the same subject of brainwashing and de-brainwashing.

Anyway if you're bored and have nothing to do I suppose you could watch this movie.

I could have written a much better story than this one.
