A dark depiction of Santa Claus
thefoochie14 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
From seeing the trailers, I knew that Santa was going to be a scary monster. I thought that would be the only twist in the episode. What I didn't expect was what happened next. This twist was so unexpected that I couldn't help but laugh. The funniest part for me was when the kid opened his present and sees that it's just what he asked for. This episode was a dark take on Santa, and it was surprisingly comedic.

Instant Subversive Holiday Classic
mattfloyd-4100914 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm going to tell my future kids that this is what Santa's actually like. :)

On the serious side, I love the deceitfully cheery art style here - the animation feels definitely inspired by Laika's stop-motion prowess. I also love how Netflix snuck this scrumptious snack-sized morsel into Love, Death & Robots, even though it only/thankfully follows the first theme here. While it's definitely the most family-friendly of anything that franchise has produced so far, this anti-viewer friendly episode expertly deconstructs the Santa concept down to its happily frightening conclusion. What we really have here follows Roald Dahl's philosophy, one that assuredly vomits up rewards to the good little ones, just as well as implicitly ripping the rotten ones apart. It's Charlie Brown had Tim Burton and Guillermo del Toro philosophically brainwashed him before revamping the grotesque spawn off for a new generation of committed anti-conformists.

When Christmas comes around later this year, let's all scar kids and their equally impressionable grownups for life, by showing them this gleefully traumatizing ode to anti-consumerism!

Good.
Del_Wares14 May 2021
We see a thematic mismatch here (the title of the series has nothing to do with the content of the episode), but the story itself is pretty good. It combines two extremes (joyful Christmas and a terrifying monster), resulting in an engaging short animated film.

John Lewis Christmas advert 2021.
lawrencelawrence8614 May 2021
Very simple story told brilliantly, animation was nice like other Xmas animated films and the kids were great. Nice little surprise I didn't expect to see in this anthology.

Not as Captivating as the rest.
datacdeme14 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It's a cute short and all. The Animation is so beautifully rendered and the detail in this is stellar. It's funny how Santa is this giant beast thing, and how the monster design is quite frightening. But once Santa leaves it becomes rather predictable. You know they were gonna ask: "What would happen if we weren't good?" And that would be the lingering question in your head. Overall, not as good as I thought it would be. It falls quite flat and is predictable during it's ending. Still, had it's fun moments.

6.6/10.

A new Christmas Staple.
simplyfsl15 May 2021
Its been long since someone created something suitable for repeat viewing on Christmas by whole family. It's a great short surprise with an interesting twist on Santa and great message for children.

A Quiet Christmas Place
imxhill5 March 2022
It was the shortest episode of this season. That's why the idea was more brilliant than the character or story. I think it was a fresh attempt to tell the story of Santa.

Unlike previous episodes, an animation with a slight stop motion feeling was used, and it felt fresh and nice.

Hm - one good line, mediocre animation
nataraj14 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
There is one very good line in this short: at the very end, the children look at each other and say "but what if we hadn't been good?"

The rest is 3D character models out of the 1980s, animation that makes Wallace and Gromit look avant-garde. A storyline that is non-existant or extremely predictable.

Oh yes - there is a big scare: the monster has hundreds of teeth. Wow. How scary.

Maybe it's cultural bias: coming from a country where St. Nicholas (a.k.a. St. Claus) alway visits the children together with his "evil" counterpart, the whip-carrying "Krampus", the idea of getting not just gifts but also punishment is very natural to me.

Not a creature was stirring...
Pjtaylor-96-1380444 June 2021
'All Through The House (2021)' is essentially a skit based around a single concept: what if Santa Claus wasn't a bearded fat man in a red suit? It's presented as an innocent kids cartoon for much of its duration, with a solid stop-motion aesthetic (I'm not sure, but I believe it's CGI designed to emulate stop-motion, not stop-motion itself) and an appropriately light soundtrack. After a certain point, it takes a twist and becomes a bit more suspenseful. However, it doesn't become dark for the sake of being dark, which it easily could have done. Any potential horror ultimately comes from a fairly good-natured place, with its most gruesome stuff reserved for innuendo only, and it leaves you feeling satiated rather than disappointed. It doesn't focus on character or theme, rather on conveying its core concept in as keen a way as possible. It fits its short format well as, essentially, a single gag. 6/10.

Unique, underrated
danielgoodman-3451227 May 2021
Gives a great laugh at the absurdity of the idea. The team should be proud for all these little details such as the kid fixing his sock (I think) when they were about to go down the stairs. This is stop motion guys! Amazing.

And if Santa wasn't what you think he was but a horrible monster but still good with good children, one wonders what this terrible monster does to bad children, you will never see Christmas with the same eyes again.

Shades of Black Mirror
vikingsfan-0563615 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
If you're a fan of Black Mirror, you're probably also a fan of Love Death & Robots. The first season of this show was simply amazing, no other way to describe it. But I'm not here to talk about the previous season of LD&R...or even any of the other episodes of season 2. I'm here to talk about "All Through The House". Dang....what a ride. It's like...you can tell from the beginning that something F'd up is gonna happen. Shades of M. Knight....but what you get is like a straight punch to the jaw. I'm amazed at the ingenuity of this story. Unique. Scary. The "Santa" is very well done. And the reactions of the kids is even better. Good episode.

What it looks like. Haven't laughed like this for ages. Funny and clever episode at the same moment. That ending scene what if we were bad was the best possible ending.

Not impressed at all
ytliu-926056 June 2022
Pans labyrinth should've sued the monster designer as it is a blatant rip-off of a unique masterpiece. It is like the director was not even trying while making this short film, it's totally awful and has no meaning except for an unfunny punchline at the end...

Short Sharp Shock
gbkimberley14 May 2021
A merry twisted Christmas to one and all. Shorter than a pair of budgie smugglers and much more fun. So far Season 2 is looking even better than Season 1.

Twisted Christmas Tale
newpapyrus14 May 2021
Great animation is featured in this twisted Christmas tale. But I'm not sure if this actually happened if children would ever enjoy Christmas again.

Better be good!

Hilarious depiction of Santa
gerardchalaux3 June 2022
It's a shame this episode was so short, but it probably didn't need to be any longer, the idea behind this is makes it so good, Santa being something else completely different. Hilarious stuff.

...so be good for goodness sake!
noxaman11 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Such a funny short! All the charm of a Christmas stop-motion film, and just a splash of Aliens for good measure. The punchline really sent it home.

I always found the ol' "santa is always watching" thing a bit creepy, but this really takes it to the next level. This is my favorite of the "funnies" from LDR.

Least favourite episode in the franchise
ericiscool-7481512 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm giving this episode 1 star because I dont feel like it should be anywhere close to the rating it currently has. Its super short and didn't really make me feel anything (other than grossed out by the wierd creature).

Basically to summarize the plot, the kids go downstairs to find a disgusting creature and it vomits up their presents...the end. It was wierd in a bad way and i didn't see the point of the short film. I do not see any of the fascination that others have for this concept. It was basic and gross and pointless.

Creative way to blend the classic Christmas animation styling with the horror of Alien. This is an all around great short film!
