Chicago couple Isaac and Teresa Vatkin were “always holding hands” during their 69 years of marriage — so their children weren’t surprised when they passed away hand-in-hand at Highland Park Hospital on April 23.
“Through the sadness of it all, I’m so glad they left together,” their son Daniel Vatkin tells People. “Their hands remained held until mom passed and she was taken away.”
Teresa, 89, died first at 12:10 a.m and Isaac, 91, passed away about 40 minutes later. They leave behind three children, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
“It was difficult, but in another way it’s a beautiful piece,” says Daniel.

– Exclusive: For its 2017 edition, the True/False Film Fest is partnering with Kickstarter to expand its staff childcare initiative to include visiting filmmakers, artists, and musicians. True/False will provide free, professional daycare during the four-day weekend of the Fest in order to make the festival more accessible to artists with young children.
Through this initiative, True/False and Kickstarter seek to support the real, current needs of low-income and single parents, as well as model possibilities for other festivals on how to be more feminist and equitable. With the support of Kickstarter, True/False hopes to offset the cost of expensive child care and help parents give birth to their films, build essential industry relationships and remember why documentary filmmaking is an urgent art.

Chicago – Scott Freiman is an entrepreneur, producer, composer and musicologist, and turned his primary passion – painstakingly delving into the song production techniques of The Beatles – into a series of lectures called “Deconstructing The Beatles.” He has turned those lectures into films, and “Deconstructing The Beatles Sgt. Pepper Album” will screen in Chicago at area Landmark Cinemas on February 6th, 2017.
The 50th anniversary of the release of the album “Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band” will be June 1st, 1967, and the record marked a crossover of sorts for the Fab Four, from the mop-top image of their early career to the introspective studio musicians in the second half of their collaboration. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr had just finished their last live show in August of 1966, and launched Sgt. Pepper amid rumors that they were finished as a band. “Pepper” was universally popular, and was the number one album in the U.

When Shamayim Harris of Highland Park, Michigan, began rebuilding a half-abandoned nearby block into a sustainable eco-village, she inspired her entire community. And no one was more moved into action than her son Chinyelu.
Harris owns 10 properties within what is now called Avalon Village, including an after-school homework house and a community park. And it all began with hard work and dedication. Harris and a group of volunteers removed mattresses, toilets, liquor bottles — even an abandoned boat — from the neighborhood.

Indie films are often a treasure trove of great writing, clever comedy, and realistic statements on the world that, for one reason or another, aren’t the sort of projects that can deliver a wide enough demographic to recoup the budget of bigger efforts. This is especially likely to be the case whenever you run into a smaller film with Parker Posey in it. Throw in Danny Glover and Billy Burke, and you can expect to be in for something interesting.
Highland Park doesn’t quite live up to those expectations, but it’s an interesting effort nonetheless. It’s also one that, given the right proclivity for entertainment, is probably a lot more enjoyable than most releases. If nothing else, there’s something to be said for spinning things along a path that doesn’t entirely make sense, thus giving it at least an element of unpredictability.

The cash-strapped city of Highland Park, Mich. has become the unlikely muse for a new movie starring Danny Glover, Parker Posey and Billy Burke. The Detroit enclave is certainly a place with no shortage of real-life problems. Not only has the city's struggling school system been taken over by the state, but its public lighting infrastructure has been decimated and its municipal water system is grappling with issues that are both fiscal and physical.

#30. Highland Park - Andrew Meieran I thought Andrew Meieran's dramedy might be ready for a 2011 edition showing -- but if this hasn't preemed anywhere else then perhaps the post-production process was a tad bit more lengthier than anticipated. With True Blood star Deborah Ann Woll and Park Posey toplining, perhaps Highland Park will indeed be receiving a Premieres showing. Gist: This centers on a group of high school faculty members and their desire to improve their community. Confronted with overwhelming problems and limited resources, their lives and priorities change when money seemingly falls into their lap. They see the restoration of the library as the means to inspire civic pride and a way to re-energize people. Posey will star as Shirley Paine, onetime homecoming queen and now the Mayor of Highland Park. A scheming opportunist, she is a woman drunk on power, eager to cash in on the city's notoriety.

If anyone deserves to have their story told, it's Rod Serling, the influential author and filmmaker. Now, thanks to writer/director Andrew Meieran, Serling's life is getting the big screen treatment it merits.
Meieran recently acquired the film rights to Serling's life story. Frequent Oliver Stone collaborator Stanley Weiser has agreed to co-write the flick, and Meieran will direct and co-produce alongside Serling's widow, Carol Serling.
Serling was a creative iconoclast who began in radio and became a major player in the birth of television as a serious storytelling medium. He served as a freelancer for many of the dramatic anthologies in vogue during the 1950s and won several Emmys over the course of his career for such highly respected works as Requiem for a Heavyweight and The Comedian. But the program for which he's still best remembered is, of course, The Twilight Zone.

Iconic television personality Rod Serling lead quite an interesting life. Before he became a live TV anthology narrator, producer, and screenwriter, the The Twilight Zone host was elementary school class clown who enrolled in the U.S. Army the day after high school graduation. He was a paratrooper and a member of the Army demolition squad during World War II and saw the War in the Pacific firsthand while stationed in the Philippines. His wartime combat experiences left him with nightmares and flashbacks and went on to deeply influence his writing for the rest of his life.
When he got back home, Serling used the G.I. Bill’s educational benefits to attend college, where he became involved with the campus radio station. After school he found a job in radio, eventually working his way through the entertainment business to become a TV writer and host of The Twilight Zone,...

#54. Highland Park - Andrew Meieran She's a Sundance staple and it would be logical to see Park Posey in a film that would help launch a filmmaker's career at a fest that does just that. The film works with a very "current" theme and if the tone is just right, I could see Andrew Meieran's dramedy, which has had a long time to prep for the festival (read this article on the shot in Red production). Look for Highland Park to be one of possibly a pair (the other being Detachment) of high school set pics that deal not with the students, but the staff. Posey toplines a pic that centers on a group of high school faculty members and their desire to improve their community. Elsewhere in Twitter-Wood, TwitPic posting was a bit lighter, but Danny Masterson offered a behind-the-scenes look at his new Spike TV show "Playing With Guns" and Kim Kardashian showed what it looks like when she and her sister have a "Beach Bunny Party" together. It's all noted with Jon Hurwitz's thoughts on Sandra Bullock's child and the status of "Toy Story 3" in Twitter-Wood for April 29, 2010.

Though Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and the rest of “The Twilight Saga” cast are best known for their “Twilight” roles, most of the actors in the Saga have more brewing during and after “Twilight”. After researching multiple sources, below is a thorough list of upcoming projects that the actors are involved with or pursuing. ( If you’ve heard differently, or have something to add, please add a note in the comments. )
So, if you’re wondering what on earth you’re going to do once you’ve seen “Eclipse” for the 17th time, you have these other films to look forward to!
Authors Note: “Breaking Dawn” is not greenlit. Therefore, any reference to “Breaking Dawn” is speculation at this point.

The passing of former Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren saddened some Twitter-Wood posts today, and Edgar Wright was among those thinking about a proper tribute to him. Elsewhere, David Lynch called out one of his own life's accomplishments, pointing out the 20th anniversary of "Twin Peaks" premiering on TV.
Lloyd Kaufman, meanwhile, stepped up in defense of a remake of one of his classics, "The Toxic Avenger," which is being backed by Akiva Goldsman. You can find those retweets after the jump along with John Cusack's fighting words for Internet trolls and Chris Kattan's thoughts on Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy's breakup in Twitter-Wood for April 8th, 2010.

Twitter-Wood voiced a wide variety of perspectives on the Academy Awards ceremony last night, and some posters like Ben Stiller and Lee Unkrich tweeted photos as well. Both of those guys showed off some privileged looks at the Oscars, but as you'll see below, one view was worth significantly more celebration.
Emma Roberts' crush on Shaun White came closer to resulting in a face-to-face meeting, but you'll have to read on below to find out what happened. This year I've decided to not include titles that were introduced in 2009 and are having their theatrical release this year: they include top of the list we find A Prophet and Fish Tank, a pair of cream of the crop titles showcased in Cannes, and films such as Dogtooth, Hadewijch, Tales From the Golden Age, Father of My Children, City of Life and Death, I Killed My Mother (J'ai tue ma mere), Mother, Mother and Child, Lebanon, Micmacs à tire-larigot are all worthy titles to look out for. - Welcome to the official landing page for where the 2010's top 100 most anticipated list begins. Now in year three, I started putting the list together in an attempt to keep tabs on the projects that matter the most to the site – it acts on some occasions as an F-u to the year in film previews that fail to include important...

Yesterday, it was announced that TNT gave the official greenlight to three new television series, including one which will feature The Twilight Saga: New Moon and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse star Billy Burke. The show will be entitled Rizzoli & Isles, and it will also star Angie Harmon, Sasha Alexander, The Sopranos alum Lorraine Bracco, Lee Thompson Young, and others. Burke will portray "FBI agent Gabriel Dean" in the series, and the series will follow the stories put forth by Tess Gerritsen's line of mystery novels - a detective and a medical examiner, who work together to solve crimes. This year, two of Burke's films, Shadow Play and Highland Park, will also m ...

As Movieline spends so much time telling you what we made of 2009, why not occasionally cede the microphone to others in Hollywood? Actor Billy Burke is the latest to try his hand at a Fave Five -- you may know him from his role as Kristen Stewart's father in the Twilight Saga (though after seeing Feast of Love, I'll always imagine him naked and slapping around Radha Mitchell), and in addition to the upcoming installment Eclipse, he's got the lead in 2010 indies Highland Park and Luster. Still, we're getting ahead of ourselves by looking forward; before 2010 rolls around, what did Billy think were the pop culture highlights of 2009?...

The Twilight cast is positively gigantic at this point. With The Twilight Saga: New Moon and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse complete, the list of cast members has grown significantly. Halloween tweets were way more interesting this morning since everyone was posting actual photos instead of just being indecisive about what to wear. "Twilight" star Billy Burke took the crown for most authentic, though, with his Sid Vicious outfit. He pretty much nailed the Sex Pistols' late bassist.
"Toy Story 3" director, Lee Unkrich, meanwhile retweeted a few incoming photos he received of well crafted character costumes. Gwen Stefani stood out from the pack in that batch, doing Woody's gal pal Jessie from "Toy Story 2." Then there was Fred Durst, who appears to have put a leg up on December, posting a shot of the Christmas tree he just set up in his living room. Check out all of those, as well as reactions from the World Series, Rob Zombie and John Stamos. They're all waiting after the jump in the Twitter-Wood report for November 2, 2009.

"Eclipse" actress Jodelle Ferland claims that hackers descended on her website, which would explain the disarray currently on display if you visit Jodelle-Ferland.net. Her "Twilight" series costar Ashley Greene seemed to be having a much better weekend, however, taking in the U2 concert at the Rose Bowl Sunday night. Greene was joined by Danny DeVito, Demi Moore, and a host of others who tweeted pictures from the night.
Elsewhere, Tom Felton and Emmy Rossum are still undecided on their Halloween costumes, but Felton has officially nixed a Dalmation outfit and Rossum may be warming up to Pippi Longstocking. Check out what they had to say after the jump along with Edward Norton doing yoga, Billy Burke's "Harry Potter" shout-out and Stephen Fry's new secret video game role. Bella's father is going from Team Jacob to Team Save the McGregor Library. Following his reprisal of the character Charlie Swan in this fall's "Twilight," sequel "New Moon," actor Billy Burke will appear in a little, charitable film titled "Highland Park," according to a report in Variety. Shooting is already underway in Michigan, with Danny Glover and Parker Posey starring.
The movie will tell a fictional story about a group of high school faculty members who help save their community library after a teacher (Glover) wins the lottery and uses his winnings for the building's preservation. Although the feature won't be based on a true story, the library in the film is a real one, and it actually does need saving. In fact, proceeds from ticket sales for "Highland Park" will be going to its real-life renovations.

I know that we all have to head towards the future and not get stuck with the past. We must be prepared for the changes in music, the modernization of old-school styles, and new generations of thinkers and creators who may not mesh with our tastes. But I refuse to believe that libraries are amongst the things we need to wave g'bye to. Across the country, libraries are dwindling. Hell, September brought word that All of Philly's libraries were closing. All.
But at least one filmmaker is doing something about this crappy trend. Andrew Meieran is directing a dark comedy called Highland Park (co-written with Christopher Keyser), and The Hollywood Reporter posts that Parker Posey has just signed onto the cast. The film stars Danny Glover as teacher in a struggling community who wins the lottery and decides "to restore the local library and energize the community in the process.

Just because Peter is back on the scene with Page 2 doesn't mean I have to skip the occasional casting roundup. First up, Kristen Bell will appear opposite Christina Aguilera in the musical drama Burlesque, not to be confused with that Showgirls sequel we talked about the other day. The film takes place in "a Los Angeles neo-burlesque club, reminiscent of the nightclub in Bob Fosse's Cabaret." Bell will be Nikki, "the loose-cannon lead dancer and main attraction at the club who spirals out of control when Aguilera's character suddenly gets the spotlight." A few tickets were probably sold based on that paragraph alone. [THR] After the break, news on projects for Parker Posey, Mia Wasikowska and Eliza Dushku.
