Good movie but conservative political tract
xscd15 April 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is slow but atmospheric, allowing the viewer to think with the subjects of the story. I enjoy movies that suck one in with atmosphere instead of hitting one over the head with too-much action.

However, this movie turns into a rather heavy-handed promotional tract for a typical American conservative ideology and point of view, and as such, I ultimately found it off-putting. The writers seem to have very little grasp of or insight into the ideological point of view that this movie denigrates.

The movie is enjoyable, it has a couple gay characters (refreshing to see in a movie that promotes "the conservative lifestyle") and has some genuine human warmth, wrapped around a slightly xenophobic and ideological bitterness on the part of the writers.

I ended up feeling like the movie sucked me in, only to hit me over the head with preachy conservative doctrine once I was absorbed and my mind was open. I typically resent to some degree when that happens, and this movie, while I wanted to like it better, is no exception.

Loved it until the brainwash scene!!!!!!!
jcale122 March 2019
Although I early realized that it was a pro-war movie, I really enjoyed the story and the characters until the scene of the group dinner turned into a heavy and open Right Wing Conservative pro Bush B/S brainwashing propaganda. Unless that was the original intention of the creators, to make a Right Wing pro war propaganda movie to justify Bush actions, it is very sad that they damaged a nice story with such a disgusting and full of crap discourse!!! I finished the movie because I knew it was almost over and I already invested time watching most of the story but after the dinner scene, I was VERY disappointed!!!

"Gay" Characters?
brtikhon14 June 2019
This is a very moving presentation of a wounded warrior (Buck) after he's returned home. His "gay" cousin (Daniel) asks him to move in and offers to take care of him. Daniel's best friend James is also "gay".

The story is very poignant and I thought the acting was very good. However, there is absolutely nothing "gay" about the supposed "gay" characters. The actors are unconvincing as "gay" men. They act "straight" as an arrow. If all references to a same-sex orientation were taken out of the script it wouldn't impact the story line at all.

As a gay man I was disappointed by the lack of relevance in this regard. A gay subplot would have made an even more interesting story. There are thousands of LGBT soldiers. I'm sure there are many wounded warriors from among them with stories to tell.

Propaganda

Just a lot of right-wing propaganda masquerading as a gay-themed movie.

The Politics of the Film are Wrong
hedrummond11 May 2019
Just watched the movie and boy did the father's scene piss me off. His argument was all wrong. We were supposed to be fighting the war against Afghanistan's involvement with Osama bin Laden and his followers. That's where they were. Bush pushed for going into Iraq because his father started something with Saddam Hussein and left it unfinished a decade earlier. Iraq was like a bone a dog worries until he finishes sharpening his teeth on it. That is the argument I have with the films argument. Instead of leaving me filled with national pride, it left me feeling like I had been used into watching this film because I really thought most of the writing was pretty good up to that point. Then it just pissed me off.

Heart Felt

Have just finished watching this movie. Why it's only rating low 3's is beyond me. Maybe be it's the GAY thing. O.k. the acting was not award gaining but the story line so true. For anyone interested in our returned vet's, this is one to watch. So often we turn our backs on the people that have offered their lives to protect all of us that are at home and that is shameful. The dialogue between the two main actors is heart felt and intriguing. Some of the scene's are shot well and the growth of the storyline continues throughout the movie. As I have already stated if it's action you want give this movie a miss, but, if it's a story for today...this is it

Totally recommended

Gay man dares to be more than stereotypically gay in the most unselfish way
johnnhoj-50-87514710 February 2017
No award winning acting here.

This movie begins sort of like a gay porno movie pretending to have a plot, but a plot is indeed what this movie does have in spades! It was so refreshing to see a movie with gay characters that actually had a wealth of substance, showing that some gay people can be and are more than just gay and doesn't need any gay romantic or gay sex scenes to bolster the story line.

I found it amazing how my straight guy friends enjoyed this movie too and got to see another side of gay people they rarely get to see.

A bit thank you to all involved in this production.

Heartfelt

A warm wind was a gentle wind. A gentle telling of the life of a Marine post combat. I love veterans, first of all. So this movie got a +50 points just for beginning to tackle such an important modern day issue. Sure its a little slow to get started but the dialogue opens up it goes for a run with your heart. The acting is okay. But the story is so important. Its so important, I cant stress this more. Its uncomfortable, but I think America needs to be a little uncomfortable when it comes to the results of a war such as this. Be a little uncomfortable, it teaches you humanity. Bravo. If your looking for action, skip to transformers. Yet if you want something that is going to make you think, that may motivate you to do some good in the world, then watch this. Wounded troops need you. And not all scars a physical. Semper Avanti.

A Warm Wind

I found this film very honorable. A film about subjects which are American today. Veterans, gay friends, drunken fathers, broken people and families. These are people and subjects not treated well in Hollywood. This film has done a great job of have a real dialog mixed with motion picture technology. Thank you. There could have have some more back ground music during some of the pensive moments in the film. That is my only negative part to a wonderful movie.

I hope this film is seen by a wider public. Maybe, screening through out the VA hospital system.

Thank you for making this movie.

Really inspiring

Warning: Spoilers
At the beginning of the movie, I thought it was gonna be all about David and how he will find a guy. However that was not the case at all, he suddenly found out that his cousin Buck was coming home from the war and decided that he will look after him ever step of the way. Their relationship together blossomed and it was so kind of David to put his life on hold to be able to do this. Also I liked the fact the two other guys helped out both David and Buck although I have to say Seth got really annoying at the beginning but as the movie continued, he settled down. I thought the location where this project filmed was fantastic with fields, lakes, rivers, etc. I think the actors really did a good job on this film but I wish there was a kissing scene amongst the characters to make it so breathtaking. That was the only thing that disappointed me.

One of the Best Movies Ever.
ljmcfarland3 September 2018
Reading the reviews, I didn't hold out much hope for this one. Man, was I wrong! Humanistic and utterly moving, there are conservatives, gays, war wounded, and an alcoholic, but not one of them is a stereotype, and they mesh perfectly to show how we're all just people and how ideally living in a symbiotic world. The writing, direction and acting were flawless.

The Marine
There are several scenes where the disabled marine shares his military experience. The actor playing this role was so controlled in his approach to the character's heartache I felt I was hearing the truth. Totally caught up in his tragedy. This actor held the movie in place. He should become a star leading man.

Awesome movie. Tear-jerker towards the end. The acting was incredible. As if I was watching a home movie of good friends/family over a period of a few months. 💜
