"Okidoki" have a magazine by your side! Terrible, awful avoid it!
alshwenbear110 May 2012
I own about 3,000 movies, I have watched movies from the beginning of my time, and I am not a such a young person, so, it's so easy to define a terrible waste of time like "Poe". The acting is like watching cardboard character (s), often it seems like they have the script in front of their eyes and away from the camera, it is like they keep rehearsing instead of filming, if this is a low budget film, it does not justify the effort! If you'd like to give it a shot, have the lights on, look at the screen from time to time, then read a book or a magazine, walk to the kitchen and fix a sandwich, without pausing this movie, there's nothing to miss believe me! If you watch this you may ending up saying "Okidoki" and not in a good way! And I changed my vote from two stars to one star, just to emphasize how bad this movie is.

Avoid, let me say that again. AVOID.
Gentleblue15 May 2012
One of the reasons I created an IMDb account is because sometimes, there are things you don't wish upon your worst enemy, and this movie is one of them. Personally, I think this kind of garbage should be rated Z, and it should be made obligatory for this sort of non-productions to have a big fat red Z on the cover so that everyone is warned that the product is an insult to 'below average'.

The acting is awful. The story is awful. The effects, I won't even call them special, are awful. This movie is so awful that even the shoes of the cameraman's nephew's mother in law are awful, and they're not even in it.

To be honest, I'm just trying to fill the 10 lines to get this over with JUST TO WARN QUALITY MOVIE ENTHOUSIASTS NOT TO WASTE THEIR TIME, so I can go do something interesting, like learning how to knit.

Do yourself a favor. Unless your IQ is below 65, don't watch this, because it will go below 65 once you do. What the... Am I drooling??!??

The crime in this horror/drama is clearly using the Poe name cheaply at the correct time.

This was very disappointing considering it was a horror/thriller with a character supposedly a distant relative of E.A. Poe himself, as if writing talent was passed down like hair, eye color or even athletic ability he still managed to become a brilliant writer. He is at a time where he hasn't worked in years & is in danger of losing his good name in the literary society so he takes this job as an order from his agent or face complete career failure. It consisted of a two week stay doing a biography of a Mr. Jack Conway who insist's on being called "Chef". Who just happens to be the brilliant and wealthy Dr. Andrew Casey a serial killer in which when caught by his wife became imprisoned at Marathon County Asylum for the criminally insane for eleven years. Oddly he is released, said to have been rehabilitated. He moves to Los Angeles under the alias Mr. Jack Conway. Upon Poe's first night at Conway's house he decides to toss in one of the several VHS tapes that were lying around in his room.

This is where it gets weird for me because Mr. Poe discovers exactly what has been & continues to go on in Mr. Chef's house. Is he also that absurd of a fellow to simply discard what is taking place in front of his very eyes and decide to stay & enter the total murderous & cannibalistic world of Mr. Chef? Well it sure is immediately present from the start that there was no rehabilitation done at the asylum.

Now as far as the film goes, it's no budget low budget and the acting is horrible. I don't recommend it, but if you have a need to feed your C movie horror craving & are hungry for some cannibalism then go for it, actually just avoid it period it's that bad. It's like the other review said, I found myself getting up to take a leak, get a drink & something to eat without pausing the film, it's that bad.

Poe? Woe would be more accurate.

Without exaggeration, this is the worst film I have ever seen. Excruciating dialogue, poorly fleshed out characters ( no pun intended) and murky visuals combined with poor sound.

I realise this was a low budget movie, but so was Deadtime, and while that's no masterpiece, it stands head and shoulders above this.

It really does resemble a 1980s direct to TV film.

Please avoid this, there are many many other films out there that deserve you attention more than this.

This seems to me like a cheap cynical exercise in cashing in on the Poe connection, when in reality, other than a tenuous connection to the main character, this offers nothing about Poe.

Great example of every mistake possible for a film maker to ever make.

This is one of those movies where you find yourself wondering whether the financiers committed suicide upon seeing how much of a disaster the project turned out to be.

Apart from the wooden acting, the continuity sucks, the premise is just stupid and unbelievable, and did I mention the acting is terrible. Its not often that I can't make it through at least half of a film - just in case it just got off to a bad start and improves in the second half. This film however, only held me for about 20 minutes and that was all I could take.

So to sum up - this is the worst film I have ever seen on every measure you want to consider. Please don't even waste your time watching the trailer. The only possible use this film could have is as a replacement for water-boarding. You have been warned!

High school drama class.....
brechan4 August 2013
I watched about 20 minutes of this movie before it became so irritating that I had to shut it off. The actors are delivering their lines so woodenly that is as though they are reading them from a teleprompter. I used the term "high school drama class"...but in fact, that would have actually been a major improvement. At least some of the people on screen would then have actually been actors.

An incredibly stupid premise for an equally stupid movie. If you want to see a movie tied to Edgar Allen Poe, I would suggest 'The Raven'...as it actually uses genuine actors.

It should come as no surprise that this 'direct to video' turkey would otherwise never have seen the light of day....If they had first shown it in theaters, they would have to have given the DVDs away for free...a it wouldn't even a bargain at that price.

THINK I JUST HURT MY MOMMA
nogodnomasters14 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Jonathon Poe (Stelio Savante) interviews and lives with "the Chef" (David Fine) a cannibalistic serial killer. The soundtrack, lighting, acting and plot are designed to place one on a boredom coma. Part of a 10 pack of DVDs, " Dark Disposition."

Very tough to sit through. Good for 1 punch on the Hacker's card.

Inconsistent but interesting
castert20 May 2012
For a low budget horror indie this kept my attention. I wish they would have paid more attention to the sound and picture quality. A strong majority of the film seems to be amateurishly out of focus. And I had to watch several chapters over a couple times just to hear what was being said. The sound should have been worked in post. Some good character work from Fine, Savante and one or two others but after that the level of acting drops off significantly. The character names are stupendous. Sophie Tan. Mr Peeples. Mercedes Benz. The Chef's house was cool looking. I'm curious as to what the budget was. Anybody know where this was shot? In a year of Poe films this is sure to do fairly well.
