Hulu’s list of new releases for May 2024 is missing a certain amount of original series firepower. In the place of a blockbuster like The Handmaid’s Tale or Shōgun, however, is some content diversity.
The first of the month sees the premiere of four-episode British series Shardlake. This mystery drama takes place during the reign of Henry VIII and features none other than Thomas Cromwell (Sean Bean) investigating a murder. Other series of note this month include the Korean drama Uncle Samsik on May 15.
Movies are bit more interesting on Hulu in May. Teen comedy Prom Dates premieres on May 3. That will be followed by the 2023 Adam Drive film Ferrari on May 24. Before all that though is the real heavy hitter. You can watch Austin Butler’s acclaimed performance as The King in Elvis as early as May 1. What’s the best destination for spring TV? IndieWire doesn’t have a definitive answer, but as we do every month we’ll help you weigh the options with a breakdown of everything coming to your favorite streaming platforms in May.
The month is a prime time to have Disney+, what with the ongoing and buzzy success of “X-Men 97” and upcoming “Marvel Studios’ Assembled” going behind the scenes of the reboot series. May is of course the month of Star Wars, and the House of Mouse will celebrate with “Star Wars: Tales of the Empire” on May 4. Disney is also home to BBC America’s “Doctor Who,” which returns for a highly-anticipated 14th season with Ncuti Gatwa stepping into the Tardis as the new Doctor (he stepped into the role in December 2023 as part of the series’ beloved Christmas special tradition).

Michael ‘Duffy’ Duffield was a soldier, now he’s a drifter, dealing with Ptsd and living on the move. As Lights Out begins, he gets off a bus, and it’s not even five minutes before he finds himself in a card game and accused of cheating. The ease with which he dispatches the other players and takes his money catches the eye of Max Bomer.
Max is just out of jail and looking for a way to make some money, and he sees Duffy’s skill with his fists as the way to do it. He just has to convince him to take part in some illegal underground fight clubs like the one run by Fosco. And, since Duffy could use some cash himself,...

Bruce Willis Net Worth (Picture Credit: IMDb)
Bruce Willis is grabbing headlines these days, thanks to the Christmas season and his classic film Die Hard. The debate about whether the action film is a Christmas holiday film has already been discussed a zillion times, but now the superstar has himself ended the debate.
The film was released in the summer of 1988, and despite being an action film, it motivated the audience to enjoy it as a Christmas classic since the film dealt with a plot that unfolds on Christmas Eve.
During a recent conversation, Peter Billingsley, the actor from ‘A Christmas Story,’ tried convincing the cinematographer of Die Hard that the film was a Christmas film. However, years ago, during a debate, Bruce Willis ended the debate by saying it is not a Christmas film but is goddamn a Bruce Willis film!

If one were to take a random poll in an attempt to determine the greatest action movie of all time, 100 times out of 100, "Die Hard" is probably going to come out on top. Bruce Willis' 1988 classic transcends the genre and has become a shining example of how popcorn entertainment can also achieve pure cinematic perfection. 35 years and four sequels later there is a lingering question: is "Die Hard 6" still going to happen?
Thoughts on the sequels to John McTiernan's original classic vary but all of the films made money. Inevitably in Hollywood, that means another sequel. The last time we saw Willis suit up as John McClane was a full decade ago in "A Good Day to Die Hard." Shortly thereafter, it was first revealed that a sixth installment was in the works. Ten years later, we're still waiting. So, what's going on with "Die Hard 6"? Would Willis be involved?...

The "Die Hard" movies run the gamut from great to dire, but even the worst of the bunch can't undermine the franchise's standing as one of the all-time best action sagas in cinema history. The original "Die Hard" has influenced countless filmmakers and inspired untold "Die Hard" knock-offs. Which is ok because, as star Bruce Willis told Entertainment Weekly, "If I was going to make an action movie today and I hadn't done 'Die Hard,' I would totally rip it off."
But even if the likes of "Speed" or "Air Force One" never existed, 20th Century Fox (now 20th Century Studios following the Disney-Fox acquisition) arguably ripped off "Die Hard" enough by itself. The first film became a surprise hit when it arrived in the summer of 1988, and naturally, Hollywood decided John McClane needed the full franchise treatment. If you’re a fan of true crime documentaries or early millennium classic cartoons then boy does Hulu’s list of new releases have some great news for you!
Hulu continues its implicit understanding that streaming services are basically true crime distribution machines this month with a trio of intriguing titles. While it’s not necessarily true crime per se, The Ashley Madison Affair about the notorious dating platform premieres on July 7. That will be followed by Betrayal: The Perfect Husband on July 11, which is based on a compelling podcast of the same name. But where does the cartoon excitement comes in? Well, that’s because season 11 of Matt Groening’s beloved Futurama premieres on July 24. Fry, Leela, the Professor, and Bender will all return for a direct continuation of...

Vampires are taking a wacky bite out of summer. In Season 5 of FX and Hulu’s “What We Do In The Shadows,” Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) looks for a vampire who can give him the transformation that Nandor the Relentless has kept from him. But it may not go as planned. The beloved comedy, which takes a mockumentary look at four vampires living in Staten Island, returns on July 14.
Check out the Season 5 trailer of “What We Do In the Shadows”:
Another highly anticipated return coming to Hulu in July is the latest season of long-running animated series “Futurama.” The show’s first four seasons aired on Fox from 1999 to 2003, it was then picked up by Comedy Central for three seasons from 2008 to 2013. Now, nearly a decade later, the Mike Judge-created series will return for the first half of the 20-episode Season 8 on July 24 with the original voice cast.

Die Hard is considered one of the greatest action movies of all-time, but that wasn’t always the case. Prior to its release, expectations for the movie were low, but the movie became a surprise hit and made stars out of Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman. The studio quickly got the ball rolling on Die Hard 2 and tapped Renny Harlin to direct, but the production was far from easy.
While speaking with Empire Magazine last year, Renny Harlin reflected on shooting Die Hard 2. “When I look back, I think, ‘Did I realise how young and inexperienced I was?’” Harlin said. “I was very passionate and confident, but not cocky, because I really had huge fears and doubts. We shot so much at night-time too, and I was just really stressed about not being able to sleep. So yes, I felt huge pressure. It’s no secret that the...

It’s been a big year for Prime Video. From The Boys season 3 to The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power to even the terrible games presented on Thursday Night Football, there were many hits to satisfy Jeff Bezos’ bottom line. How is the Amazon streamer planning on closing out 2022? Why, with another potential hit, of course!
Amazon Prime Video’s list of new releases for December 2022 is highlighted by the return of an old favorite. Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan season 3 premieres all eight episodes on Dec. 21. This time around John Krasinki’s CIA analyst will be dealing with a potentially nuclear conflict with Russia. The only other original TV series of note this month is Three Pines on Dec. 2. The mystery series stars Alfred Molina as Chief Inspector Armand Gamache.
Over on the movie side of things, Prime Video is bringing forward a major holiday tile on Dec.

It’s time to get the hot cocoa boiling and the holiday decorations up! It’s almost December and nearly every streaming service has consumers covered with both seasonal content and new shows to carry them into the new year. Amazon’s Prime Video service has a few new series debuting, including “Riches.” Starring Deborah Ayorinde, from “Them,” the series is described as “a high-stakes family drama about the exploits of the stylish, privileged, and super-successful Richards siblings vying for control over the family business.”
The streamer also brings actor John Krasinski back into the world of Tom Clancy with the third season of “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan.” This installment finds CIA officer Jack Ryan wrongly accused of treason and on the run from his own government as he races against the clock to stop a global catastrophe. "Die Hard" is one of the most beloved action films of all time. Above and beyond the regular "Is it a Christmas movie?" discourse that surrounds the film, "Die Hard" stands as a watershed moment in the action genre. The casting of Bruce Willis as the everyman action hero — as opposed to the Schwarzeneggers and Stallones of the day, muscle-bound demigods whose victories seemed absolutely certain — brought a new level of humanity and an underdog spirit to American action movies that persists today.
On the opposite side of that coin lies the film's antagonist, Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman), one of cinema's great villains and a prototype of the dashing, "love to hate them" style of action baddies. Add in the script's bracing wit, John McTiernan's taut direction, and some of the most thrilling stunts in action history, and you have a stone-cold classic.

Amazon Prime Video is ringing in the month of July with a smorgasbord of new titles, from “House of Gucci” (previously available to purchase or rent on Amazon Prime Video) to classic films like “Clueless,” “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and “Yentl.” Apart from the Lady Gaga-starring crime drama, which becomes available to stream on July 2, most other titles will join the platform on July 1.
The streamer is also debuting a handful of Amazon originals this month. The comic book series adaptation “Paper Girls” will hit the streamer at the very end of the month. “Warriors on the Field,” a documentary about Indigenous players in the Australian Football League, premieres July 8. Indie drama “Don’t Make Me Go” and coming-of-age series “Forever Summer: Hamptons” debut July 15, followed by the Billy Porter-directed “Anything’s Possible” and the boxing feature “Prizefighter” on July 22.

Two is the magic number when it comes to Prime Video’s list of new releases for July 2022. While Amazon’s streamer is bringing many library titles to the mix this month, it has two original TV shows and two original movies of note.
Prime Video kicks off the month with The Terminal List on July 1. Though everything about that name screams “Movie” to me for some reason, the Chris Pratt-starring action property is actually a series. Pratt will portray James Reece, a Navy Seal who returns home after his team is ambushed on a covert mission only to discover that the threat might still persist. Then Prime Video closes out the month with Paper Girls on July 29. This adaptation of a Brian K. Vaughan comic is a sci-fi yarn about a group of young paper delivery girls confronting a temporal anomaly.

Summer is about to finally, blessedly be in full swing. And to honor the occasion, Hulu is showing up big with its list of new releases for June 2022.
Hulu is bringing two major TV titles to its stream this month. The first is The Orville: New Horizons on June 2. Seth MacFarlane’s sci-fi/comedy started as a simple Star Trek parody on Fox before blossoming into its own entirely sincere space adventuring beast. Now “New Horizons” promises to be a fresh start for the series on Hulu. Next up is Only Murders in the Building season 2 on June 28. Season 1 of this Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez-starring series was a big hit. Let’s see if our favorite podcasters can pull it off once again.

Fish out of water, mistaken identities, and different worlds colliding are some of the most common romantic comedy tropes, and Hulu‘s upcoming “The Valet” manages to hit all of those chords at once. When a starlet and a valet have to pretend to be in a relationship with one another, chaos ensues — making it a rom-com you don’t want to miss.

The news that Bruce Willis will be stepping away from his acting career due to a diagnosis of the neurodegenerative disease aphasia brought with it a renewed appreciation for the work of one of the biggest pop culture stars of our lifetimes. Here are 10 roles that helped define Willis’ often-brilliant career:
Moonlighting (ABC, 1985-89)
Do bears bare? Do bees be? Do bartenders become overnight sensations? Willis was basically unknown when Moonlighting creator Glen Gordon Caron hired him to play quippy private detective David Addison opposite Cybill Shepherd as uptight former fashion model Maddie Hayes.

Bruce Willis has been in the entertainment industry since his big break on the hit television show, Moonlighting. Following that hit was Die Hard, which really catapulted his career and the A-list star has been at the top ever since. Willis has starred in numerous classics: The Sixth Sense, The Fifth Element, 12 Monkeys, Pulp Fiction, Unbreakable, and Looper are just some of the memorable movies in his filmography. However, as time went by, so did Willis’s appearance in big mainstream films. The failure of A Good Day To Die Hard notably sent a message that Willis wasn’t the big

Eleven months in to 2021, and Warner Bros. movie streaming strategy on HBO Max is still going strong. Now the list of new releases for November 2021 on HBO Max is highlighted by yet another big ticket film.
King Richard, starring Will Smith, is set to arrive on HBO Max and in theaters on Nov. 19. The movie will tell the story of Richard Williams, the father and coach of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams. Smith is already getting some early awards buzz for the role so Oscar-heads may want to check this one out.

November is a good month for saying goodbye on HBO Max. The streaming platform will host the final 2021 episodes of HBO late-night staples “Real Time with Bill Maher” and the Emmy Award-winning “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver,” the season finales of Max originals “Love Life” and “Doom Patrol,” and also provide home viewers their last opportunity to watch “Dune” on HBO Max until sometime in 2022 (“Dune” leaves HBO Max on November 21).
But beyond those conclusions, there are some huge premieres as well: Oscar contender “King Richard” arrives on November 19 with Will Smith in the lead role, the back-half of “Gossip Girl” Season 1 will make its debut at some point, and the HBO Music Box series continues with the Alanis Morrisette documentary “Jagged” (which the singer roundly criticized) and a new feature on Dmx. Jai Courtney has been cast in the Amazon series “The Terminal List” opposite Chris Pratt, Variety has learned.
The series follows James Reece (Pratt) after his entire platoon of Navy SEALs is ambushed during a high-stakes covert mission. Reece returns home to his family with conflicting memories of the event and questions about his culpability. However, as new evidence comes to light, Reece discovers dark forces working against him, endangering not only his life but the lives of those he loves.
Courtney will appear in the recurring guest star role of Steve Horn, the billionaire kingpin behind Capstone Industries. Capstone is an enormously successful global fund with its hand in everything from pharmaceuticals to fashion. But Horn’s bread and butter is capitalizing on the latest military trends and innovations. Horn’s hubris and influence are equally threatening, and will put him squarely in Reece’s crosshairs.

Vicious, calculating and extremely dangerous, he is a man who watches his surroundings with icy intensity. Bruce Willis has been struggling to remain relevant for years now, with his only genuine box office hits of the last decade or so coming in A Good Day to Die Hard and Glass, both of which saw him returning to play familiar characters in sequels. Apart from that, the former A-lister can typically be found in bargain basement action thrillers that get dumped into an already overloaded VOD market.
The good news is that the Die Hard icon has found himself back in the headlines this week, but the bad news is that it’s for being asked to leave a pharmacy after refusing to wear a mask. In case you hadn’t noticed, the Coronavirus pandemic is still a very real threat with huge parts of the world tightening restrictions once more ten months after the first wave, but that clearly still isn’t enough to convince everyone to take the necessary precautions.

Who knows if we’ll ever actually get any kind of remake or reboot of “Die Hiard” — it seems somewhat unlikely with Bruce Willis still in the picture — but the fans are certainly free to dream of a non-hetero, gender-swapped version of the Christmas action classic. And one of them did just that on Monday, fan-casting Charlize Theron in the lead role of such a hypothetical enterprise. And Charlize was on board with the idea.

It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly when Bruce Willis seemed to lose any and all interest in his career and start phoning it in, but the actor’s slide from the very top of the A-list to bottom of the barrel VOD purgatory has been going on for close to a decade now. The 65 year-old turns up, goes through the motions, picks up his paycheck and heads home, which is a far cry from when he was one of cinema’s biggest stars.
In the last eight years alone, Willis has shown up in no less than 30 movies, and only in Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom and Rian Johnson’s Looper has he given a memorable performance. Fifteen of them have gone straight to video, and outside of franchise turns in A Good Day to Die Hard, G.I Joe: Retaliation, Red 2 and Glass, the rest have bombed at the box office.

“Stateless” lives and dies with its true story. Co-created by Cate Blanchett, Tony Ayres, and Elise McCredle, the new Netflix limited series draws inspiration from the life of Cornelia Rau, a former flight attendant whose 10-month imprisonment in an Australian immigration detention center sparked national debate down under. How did a local resident end up detained on her own soil for nearly a year?
To its credit, “Stateless” doesn’t tease out that question like a mystery, but the answers still prove too outrageous to ignore — and too distracting from the series’ ultimate focus. When Aussies learned that one of their own had been mistakenly detained in 2005, it drew massive and much-needed attention to a cruel and deeply flawed immigration system. Suddenly, the persecution of asylum-seekers wasn’t a problem for “outsiders”; it was a problem for everyone.

Rambo: Last Blood appeared to be a definitive film for its titular character. Its title deliberately harked back to the original, while playing into an extensive marketing campaign that this would be the last ever Rambo. That would preclude the chance of a Rambo 6 ever getting made. But going by Sylvester Stallone’s latest comments, that may not be the case after all.

Best known for playing Captain Boomerang in “Suicide Squad,” Jai Courtney first gained attention in 2010 portraying Varro on Starz’s “Spartacus: Blood and Sand.” Since then, the Aussie actor has appeared in “Jack Reacher” and “A Good Day to Die Hard,” followed by “Divergent” and its sequel, “Insurgent.”
He’ll next be seen in “Stateless” as Cam Sanford, a guard at an immigration detention center in the Australian desert. After premiering on Australian television in March, “Stateless” hits Netflix on July 8.
