Culture Gulp
feelreallove-921-84597110 January 2022
Compared with western dating shows, especially ones based at beaches this was sooooo different. The western ones are loud and trashy, which makes them hugely fun and cringy. This show is such a reveal of the difference in cultures. From the way the people interact to what is acceptable to talk about, such as skin colour, face shape and a preference for single or double eyelids. Amazing insight. Not much happens in this show, and if you're looking for crazy entertainment, this isn't it. In many ways it's rather beautiful.

One more thing! These young folk can cook! With basic ingredients, they whip up many a meal that looks amazing.

This show is very calm and mild, so do not watch this if you need quick drama 24/7.
Imme-van-Gorp10 January 2023
Season One: 7.5/10

Themes: Reality-TV, Dating, Island-Life, Luxury, Food & Korean.

Review: I honestly thought this was a really nice show. The pacing is on the slower side, so if you don't have the patience for that and need constant drama, then this will not be the show for you. It's super calm and mild, but I kind of liked that. It gave the show a more charming and even natural feel to it. Some of the editing was a little frustrating though, as we did not always get to see the scenes (and the people) I was most interested in, but I suppose that that is more due to personal taste. Overall, I was entertained watching this and I found it interesting to see interactions within a culture so different from my own.

Favourite contestants: Shin Ji-yeon (S1) & Moon Se-hoon (S1).

Least favourite contestant: Song Ji-a (S1).

Refreshing Reality Show.
benighted200520 December 2021
It is amazing how cool the Korean Culture. People may not even shake hands let alone give a hug or handshake. More than anything, this show is letting me know just how many layers humans can have and it is fun to watch. I like the pacing of the show - it does not try too hard to get your attention span and grows gradually. I like most people on the show and the culture is quite rich, sets are good without the usual drama we associate with islands and single people. I have seen just the first 2 episodes and I am patiently awaiting more.

Finally They've Done It Right
lokis_mistress29 December 2021
This is the first time I haven't turned one of these "speed dating on a desert island" or "find love in three days plus gimmicks" shows off in the first or maaaybe second episode. And once again it's because there is an authenticity to Korean culture that is so refreshing. Where is the backstabbing?! Where is the snide double edge remarking?! Where are the testosterone heavy but bikini clad competitions that are meant to create random and poorly placed drama to exclude the idea of well developed personalities...?!

Thankfully none of it found its way to this show. Instead the focus is on real world emotions and responses between the contestants. Even the ones who are expected to be obnoxious are good people, just higher maintenance. These shows don't need to be full of jerks to be good. Well done.

Such an interesting look at a culture that simply doesn't exist in America. Gentle, kind, sweet and honest- the show is a rich experience, soothing and full of surprises.

Great if you're sick of garbage Western TV reality show
january11pv52 January 2022
"Love" or "relationships" should be built gradually and not set within an environment where everybody wants to sleep with each other on Day 1 aka Love Island or Too Hot To Handle.

Western culture (my culture) could learn a thing or two seriously from Korea. How did we become so low with dating in our society?

I find the show refreshing and not sexual (finally).

A flat down pillow with not enough stuffing.
TristanSilya23 December 2022
In short it's like a group of friends that don't know each other thrown on a getaway island.

Not much really happens. They walk the beach, make breakfast, sit around, then sleep. Once in a while they play very underwhelming mini games.

It's supposed to be a show about dating and love but many contestant are only there to promote themselves and it's quite obvious.

Very few genuine chemistry actually happen. I believe they need a more diverse selection of guys. At least guys that have different taste in girls. Most of the guys like the same girl and that's a bit anti-climatic. It's still kind of interesting seeing casual banter between each other. There are also some fan service with slow motion shots and cool aerial cinematography.

The show needs more fun and light-hearted moments. Perhaps more team activities and adventures that let people put down their guard and show their true selves. Jetski race! Do a dance party! Have a water gun fight. Go explore the island and see who catches the first crab or lizard. Anything.

So good!! Netflix better be making many more seasons!
mrsgatorbranch121714 January 2022
I hate American dating reality shows. They are usually just sex & drunkenness. I love how much more conservative Koreans are. They get to know each other & flirt. Which makes for such a better story line! There is a slow burn which is so much more entertaining. I loved all the singles on Inferno. They all seemed genuine & seemed to have a lot of fun. I haven't watched the last episode so I'm not sure who ends up with who, but honestly I don't care. I just enjoyed the journey. It is such a visually beautiful show. Both the inferno island & Paradise Hotel where gorgeous back grounds! I like that with each day you didn't know how the rules would change I hope Netflix gives us many more seasons of this fun, guilty pleasure!!

Korean Shows are Better than American Ones
thomaslastlast7 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Single's Inferno was an okay show. It was entertaining and well produced. The characters were kinda boring and flat, since literally like all of them only cared about looks and nothing else. The characters were quite attractive though, and the show was well planned, with the how the events and competitions were structed.

I hate insanely superficial characters, which they basically all were. Jiyeon was a neuroscience student at UToronto (at age 25 somehow), but literally nobody cared and her only quality that mattered was that she was hot.

The casting desk was a bit annoying sometimes with their commentary (although they did make it more entertaining at times), and the dub was pretty horrendous.

Overall, a decently entertaining trashy show, but it was still entertaining.

An unexpected gem!
saram-073858 January 2022
Even though many of the participants' decisions made me so frustrated, they really kept me hooked and always gasping!

I really enjoyed watching this show, it was really refreshing to see a dating show that wasn't all about hooking up and bickering!

Yea-Won and So-Yeon are queens btw!

Ending could be improved
hoailtproec13 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This show is so refreshing and entertaining to watch. It's interesting to see how different Asian dating is from the ubiquitous passionately physical dating style that the Western world perpetuates. I was surprised to see how these participants took a longg time to hold hands or get physically closer even when they're really into each other.

The ending is a bit off when they arranged the girls to be so far away from each other, scattering over the island for the boys to walk to. Feel like the intended suspense failed big time as it is such a waste of time to walk back and forth and the other person waiting. Ending could be improved.

Tug of war problem, and commentary team defending borderline behavior.
onze-kris20 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Season 2 episode three..

If you are going to have a tug of war with three and two are almost straight opposed than the other one will win.

To be fair the angles should be 120 degrees for all. It was much closer to 180, 60,60.

A woman could have won that even.

With all the geniuses on the show I am sure someone should have figured that out.

First season and second season In dating shows it's nice to see how different cultures behave and act.

I am not a fan of meat shows. These Asian dating shows although there is a lot of eyecandy well they offer more insight into their culture.

Even if it is just dropping honorific..

The commentary is also interesting. But it makes me frown sometimes. I have to use season 2 here as well.

In paradise one girl gets bombarded with the same question.

She needs time and the guy keeps asking her over and over. It is even defended by the majority of the panel. One woman completely took her side and I applaud her for that Defending that behavior "he is a doctor so he needs to know" is unacceptable.

Netflix already had real drama with Terrace house. So I feel there should be very clear guidelines and adequate help of what is appropriate behavior and what's not.

These are still real people you put up there. And when lines are close to being crossed be open about it.

For all I care give the person toilet dutie for his behavior so he can reflect on his actions. And it would teach a lesson to all those guys who pressurize girls.

It's hard to criticize when a lot is culture related. BUT because something is embodied in the culture it doesn't always make it right.

IN SHORT commentary team should have said that his behavior borders on unacceptable, and the show could have used it better.

I am not saying he is a bad guy. He might be completely oblivious to what he was doing there. But wouldn't it be nice that he was told so or could reflect on that.

I think it would make for better television as well.

Overly Scripted Rich Kids Glamping Disguised As "Hardship"
thsalf102022 February 2022
This show was pitifully terrible, sorry. The concept doesn't live up to its name.

"Inferno" -- The contestants didn't undergo any hardships besides cooking, i.e. An everyday task. They didn't even have to harvest/hunt for their food.

They took some footage at the beginning of them getting water at a pump in Episode 1, but beyond that you never saw a single drop of sweat on any of them, or their hair out of place, despite them complaining how hot it was. Quite suspicious.

"Paradise" and Matchmaking - This show's premise is: you have to find a partner to be successful, otherwise you're stuck in inferno. However, there is no real consequence of staying on the island. Moreover, this format forces contestants to date each other not because they want to, but because they need to in order to go to Paradise. That's the opposite of growing love organically.

Rich Kids - It's laughable to think these are your average Korean youth. They're all rich kids. They all own their own brick-and-mortar stores in a city where youth are struggling with debt. Wearing Chanel and other designer items on a "deserted inferno" further underwhelms the concept of the show.

Producers/panelists also encouraged toxic masculinity. The guy who kept getting rejected exhibited behavior that concerned me. He was a guy who didn't know how to handle being "rejected" and he gaslit one of the girls in response to her telling him the truth about his behavior. His unpredictable and unstable reactions made me honestly believe we was going to make a physical altercation. It was unsettling to watch.

Very few of the reactions felt natural. Everything felt carefully planned and scripted. This was difficult to get past.

I hope they either drastically improve the concept of the show or scrap it entirely. Korea has a lot of great media, this just wasn't one of those for me, unfortunately.

cherlockhome21 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What a great reality show, unlike those sex show from USA. But my god, i got so involved in their story and I do not like how Song Ji Ah played those boy.. and what annoys me the most is that 3 stupid man fall for her trap at the end.. she has that resting bitch face and something about her right eye is off. I love the show tho, very refreshing from other silly dating show out there.

Hot idiots
kaiser8110 January 2022
First things first. My expectation going in was that this would be a less self-centered and more civilized version of similar western shows. Instead it pushes the looks-are-everything narrative ten fold.

Practically every interaction up until the later episodes feels like the contestants talking exclusively about appearances. Who knew a specific shape of nose or type of eyelids (?) is the most important thing in the world. And sure, when it comes to the contestants (young attractive people in the influencer/model mold) that type of superficial outlook is maybe to be expected. What threw me off was the commentators join in on it.

The show really should've had an all-comedian type commentating team that could poke fun at the mind numbing shallowness of it all.

Still it was a fun enough guilty pleasure type of show with some genuine feeling moments sprinkled throughout.

Honestly..the times I snorted out laughing in the third episode is too many !! 🤣🤣 It was just so funny with Se Hoon being left AGAIN and all the jokes on him ! That line "I don't think we will ever find out what Se Hoon's profession is" left me dead 😂

Its Alright
Dira12343 January 2022
Its decent reality show and definitely not much vulgure like other dating reality shows. But korean culture and participats seem extremely shallow. Only interested in whitest skin and call girl with white skin "pure"😂. They don't seem to be interested in personality of anyone and everything based only on looks. Makes me cringe.

Single inferno is like watching grass grow
linella_d7 June 2023
While I enjoyed the first season, I found it unnecessarily slow. We didn't have to have a recap everytime what someone did was, referred to. Did we have to c the whole conversation over again? I loved Japan's Terrace House which was also slow but the goofy comedian hosts were a welcome relief. They were really funny. These hosts are like sticky porridge....no original comments and certainly no jokes. Very staid oohs and aahs was about all they cld come up with. And could someone please ask the female contestants to stop flicking their longs and stroking their manes....so annoying. The show needs to become slicker, smarter, funnier and faster for me to watch another season.

alexanderwelder9 January 2022
Unlike any other dating reality TV show I watched this show doesn't contain any of the other trash you seen in typical American shows like this. I found the pacing great, the conversations not forced and I really rooted for the participants and loved how it turned out in the end.

Worth watching if your from western societies
ceojonathanmontgomery18 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Hello Fellow Humans,

This is a very interesting show to watch. Coming from California all my life I find it so fascinating that they constantly say let's talk casually. Knowing a lot more about Asian countries is something they apparently do. On YouTube a few people from Japan, Korea and China say they always are taught to be formal and not show their feelings. Which is completely opposite of American women. It is interesting how they have to both accept to talk casually. When in California all speak is casual. Guess it's all our weed and movie stars. In California we are naturally outgoing and apparently it's attractive to Asian women. It is interesting to see a completely opposite country and society on Netflix and see what they find attractive. Also can we all agree it is odd that almost every single man hasn't ever shaved in their life haha. Coming from a Viking background I can grow a full beard in a day haha. I hear from several of the women they like manly men and yet I see them pick what I would consider boyish and feminine men. So it is interesting to see a different version of manly to women from another country. This show is really interesting and is fascinating from a social aspect. It's fun and funny and is worth watching if you aren't sure what to watch. I also noticed the men whine a lot and seem to be overly sensitive. Maybe it's just the type of men who would go onto this type of show, as I would not judge an entire group based on a few. After watching all the seasons I have to say this. I feel bad for Asian women. Their men are like children looking for a mommy. If a woman takes the initiative the men get offended and if they are straight forward to the men they get hurt and whatever. Their pride is 9000. Asian women come to California you will be loved and snatched up quickly by good real men.

So... refreshing
mpuckett-7090614 December 2022
This show is so less vulgar than dating shows. The consideration and respect of everyone in so interesting. For instance, "watch your eyes, are you okay" constantly checking in on each other, the things they find attractive. It's never "a big butt" etc like the western shows, it's all about eyes, being healthy or delicate etc. I can no believe how relaxing this show is to watch and how much more romantic it is. I also am so intrigued by the mens style and how it would be considered feminine here in America, but it's so nice to see men in another culture so secure in themselves that dressing nicely is more acceptable. I also LOVE the commentary during the episodes. I watch this alone and it's nice to hear their thoughts as well. Makes me want to bring out the popcorn.

If you're from the west and like this- try watching love is blind Brazil, America, and Japan and compare the cultures and respect. While I know Korea and Japan are different of course, the slow burn romance remains in both. I love this!!

Meh....
tunaluvah24 December 2021
Way too much commentary and not enough substance from the contestants.

Am I here to listen to the commentators and their opinions or watch the contestants?

Hard pass after the second episode.

Show didn't keep me interested and had to skip forward often.

Entertaining, Awkward, and hilarious
sirinow26 December 2021
Some people in the reviews are just haters. The host are sweet and hilarious. They make the show interesting with their inputs and say the things we are thinking too. Sometimes it feels a little obvious but nothing to hurt the overall experience. The casting of the characters in the show are well done. They all are unique and beautiful/handsome in their own ways. I love how awkward and suspenseful this show is and often look forward to what will happen next. This show is a great entertainer.
