Life, as the Jurassic Park genius Ian Malcolm once said, tends to find a way. Perhaps encouraged by the star-studded ensemble at hand, Sony Pictures has opted to ship Daniel Espinosa’s new sci-fi movie to a much more competitive release window – Memorial Day weekend.
Once on course to enter Earth’s orbit on March 24, 2017, Deadline reports that Espinosa’s space thriller will now open opposite long-awaited sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales on May 26. There’s also Universal’s genre comedy – rumored to be titled The Something – to contend with, which orders Zach Galifianakis, Bill Hader and Seth Rogen into the inky blackness of space.
But Sony is clearly confident it’s on to a winner – and with Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Rebecca Ferguson set to star, can you really blame them? Pitched as Alien meets Ten Little Indians, the script for Life hails...

Selma director Ava DuVernay has called time on her search for Intelligent Life, according to The Hollywood Reporter, as DreamWorks begins scouting for a new director to take the reins of its nascent sci-fi pic.
As THR confirms, Star Wars actress Lupita Nyong’o remains attached to the feature, which was originally dreamed up by Jurassic World helmer Colin Trevorrow – also bound for the Star Wars universe via 2019’s Episode IX – and frequent collaborator Derek Connolly.
Pulling elements from Contact and other sci-fi classics of old, DreamWorks’ Intelligent Life centers on a United Nations employee who presides over a crack team of astronomers who monitor outer space and all of the cosmic mysteries therein. All of their knowledge of the stars is put to the sword, however, when they make contact with an impossibly beautiful woman who may or may not be an alien.

On the heels of steering 10 Cloverfield Lane out of the shadows and toward box office success, J.J. Abrams is dusting himself down in preparation for his latest producing gig with Bad Robot’s God Particle.
Since nailing down a 2017 release window, the brainy sci-fi feature has been quietly picking up steam in a genre that has no shortage of high-profile features in the pipeline – namely Passengers and Seth Rogen’s The Something – with today bringing word that David Oyelowo (Selma) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Concussion) have enlisted for Julius Onah’s upcoming thriller.
No details were given as to the characters they’ll play, though it’s a safe bet that they’ll portray some of the scientists dabbling with the elusive Higgs Boson. Rodney Rothman is a spectacularly funny guy, and yet I'd wager that many of the audiences who have laughed their faces off at a joke he wrote have never heard his name. That will most likely change after the opening of what Universal is calling Untitled Zach Galifianakis/Bill Hader/Seth Rogen R-Rated Comedy, which Rothman is directing from his own original script. I've known Rothman for a while now. We first met on Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and right after that, I tracked down his book, Early Bird: A Memoir Of Premature Retirement. He was a writer for Late Night With David Letterman when he was 21 years old, and at 24, he was promoted to head writer. That's the job he left before writing Early Bird, but he didn't stay unemployed for long. He wrote some episodes of Undeclared and Committed. He tried to get an Early Bird TV show off the ground.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have recruited Josh Hutcherson for their janitor-endowed-with-great-responsibility series Future Man….
Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are busy guys. Not content with their already-packed slate (their Preacher comic book TV series for AMC is still in production, and they also have an animated musical called Sausage Party on the way), the pair has pressed ahead with another project: Future Man, a science-fiction comedy series for American online platform Hulu.
They’ve cast The Hunger Games franchise alum Josh Hutcherson in the lead role of Future Man. He’ll play Josh Futturman, “a janitor at a sexual disease research centre called Devlin. Living with his parents, the socially inept, women-phobic man with low self-esteem moonlights as an internationally ranked gamer.”

Ryan Reynolds may be game to play the Merc With a Mouth indefinitely, but there are still roles for the Canadian actor beyond 20th Century Fox’s lucrative Deadpool franchise. Case in point: Deadline is reporting that Reynolds has opened negotiations to headline upcoming Skydance thriller Life, a role that would have him star opposite Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation breakout, Rebecca Ferguson.
Should the actor put pen to paper, Skydance’s space-bound feature would have him reteaming with Safe House director Daniel Espinosa, who happens to be working from a script pitched by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, hot off their work on Deadpool. Behind the scenes, Paramount is reportedly in line to distribute, with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn all on board to produce.

Seth Rogen has long been known for being a part of some fantastic ensembles, even on beyond his fellow Apatow gang cohorts. We'll soon see him team with the likes of Rose Byrne, Zac Efron, Dave Franco, Ike Barinholtz, Chloe Moretz, Carla Gallo and more in Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, but his new space-set comedy The Something is starting to put together a team of perhaps even greater comedic talent. The Hollywood Reporter has word that The Something has been taking some major steps forward recently, and has not only revealed that producer Rodney Rothman will be making his directorial debut with the project, but also a few of the fantastic actors who will be playing major roles in. I'll watch just about anything that combines the talents of Bill Hader, Seth Rogen, and Zach Galifianakis, so the new sci-fi movie The Something already has me intrigued.
This is a passion project for Rodney Rothman, the writer of 22 Jump Street (awesome) and Grudge Match (yikes). THR says he'll make his directorial debut with this film about a crew of male astronauts who discover another ship out in space. This is a project that was first discussed about six years ago, and around that time, Rothman spoke with Collider about the movie, which was then billed as a horror/comedy:
“[It's] about four guys in space who have been there for five years and hate each other and it kind of becomes Alien.” He says he wants to cast “a couple of the really funny actors I know and then a couple other left-field actors. And they basically end up boarding...

Comedic trio Seth Rogen, Bill Hader and Zach Galifianakis have enlisted for astronaut flick The Something, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Centering on a band of wayward explorers lost in space, the pitch comes by way of Rodney Rothman (22 Jump Street, Grudge Match), who is poised to make his directorial debut with the space-set comedy. Rogen will have a hand in producing The Something under his Point Grey Pictures banner, while Universal will handle distribution now that the project has been greenlit.
Cast astray in the inky blackness of space, Rothman’s feature will find Rogen, Hader and Galifianakis’ astronauts marooned among the stars for years, until they happen across another ship. But Event Horizon this is not, and given that the writer-director has cast such an impressive trio, it’s little wonder why Universal acted quickly to issue the go-ahead. While our review of the frat comedy “Neighbors” is quite glowing and the R-Rated laffer was a major hit this spring, not all of us agree that the comedy is all that (this writer anyhow). However, one thing that no human on the planet can argue about the movie, full stop: Rose Byrne is excellent in it, probably the best part of the movie and a total scene stealer evidently born for comedy. And sure, we’ve seen her in comedy before, most memorably in “Bridesmaids,” and “Get Him To The Greek,” but in “Neighbors” Byrne has a mix of charm and go-for-brokeness that is vastly appealing. Obviously we’re not the only ones who think so. The producers of “Neighbors” (Seth Rogen's Point Grey Pictures and Good Universe) and Universal are courting the actress to star in “The Something,” a set-in-space comedy about astronauts who get lost in space.

Following the success of Bad Neighbours, and her frequently very funny performance in it, the producers are looking to stay in the Rose Byrne Business. Seth Rogen’s Point Grey Pictures and Good Universe are trying to convince her to star in their next film, The Something.Few details are available about the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter, though we do know it’s set in space. Rodney Rothman, who has written films such as Get Him To The Greek, Grudge Match and this week's 22 Jump Street, is stepping up to direct this one, and told Collider about its tone a few years ago. It’s apparently a horror comedy “about four guys in space who have been there for five years and hate each other and it kind of becomes Alien. And they basically end up boarding a ship that has women on it. It’s the first...

Seth Rogen and Kevin Hart have found their next project. Variety reports that the actors are going to star in an untitled police comedy for Paramount Pictures. The studio reportedly won a bidding war for a pitch by Rodney Rothman (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Year One, Get Him To The Greek), who is producing under his Viking Funeral banner. Rogen and Evan Goldberg will also produce, and Hart will serve as executive producer.
Rogen and Hart will play cops in the film, which is being pitched as "the first interracial police pairing in law enforcement history." Rothman and Rogen worked together on Undeclared. Rothman recently produced The Five-Year Engagement," which is his fourth film for Judd Apatow. Universal bought his horror script for The Something, which he plans to make his directorial debut.
I loved Rogen in Observe and Report and Superbad, and in both roles he played a form of a cop.

Rodney Rothman, well known author, television producer, and screenwriter seems to be very busy guy lately.
He was in charge as an executive producer and writer for the 2009 The Year One and this year’s Get Him to the Greek, but he still has time to share some details about his upcoming projects: the space horror-comedy titled The Something and Dog of the South – which he’s doing with Bill Hader and Greg Mottola.
Steve from Collider.com had some interesting conversation with Rothman, and found out some details about these movies.
As we mentioned, The Something is a space horror-comedy “about four guys in space who have been there for five years and hate each other and it kind of becomes Alien.”
What Rothman plans to do, is to cast “a couple of the really funny actors I know and then a couple other left-field actors. And they basically...
