Who knows the song in the opening scene? I'm wracking my brain trying to remember! The one playing on the Juke Box.
I love this show for its concept and of course TR. I cannot imagine another actor playing the role of Cal Lightman. In fact, you could get rid of every single other character and I would still watch it just for him.
The show is feeling a little sluggish...here's why.
I'm TOTALLY bored with dumb and dumber (Eli and Torres). E&T crazily trying to outwit each other to look good in front of Cal, E&T and some witty verbal sparing, E&T racing against the clock to find Cal before Jillian, the FBI, Cal's Bookie, fill in the authority figure name here, catches up! Zoiks! Its like watching Shaggy and Scooby.
No more inter-office romance sub-plots that go no-where - I'm serious. Any story line that could have developed into a romance between any number/combination of characters has been completely tapped out. So far the only romance that hasn't be eluded to, is one between Eli and Cal. I feel like I'm watching re-runs sometimes. Eli's checking out Fosters ass again...yawn....The hunky FBI agent and Torres are gonna have a steamy kiss finally....yeah right. Don't even get me started on Cal and Foster. After awhile you just don't care....because every storyline is so incredibly drawn out. Let's get some momentum going please.
If you are going to feature a bunch of supporting characters on a show they better be interesting/compelling and there needs to be more PLAUSIBLE long range drama/suspense. I feel a little shortchanged.
Torres and her family were the perfect example. That would have I been an interesting family dynamic to show over a few episodes, yet, there was mucho predicable Latina drama and stagy, over-the-top dialog to really hit home the point that Torres comes from a rough back round, but she has a heart of gold, but she's tough and brilliant and gifted and blah blah blah, as if any of this couldn't have been deduced from any other episode. Give me something more than a half sister with an attitude problem, and Torres RE-exploring (for the 60th time) the barrio sized chip on her shoulder....oh brother.
As far as Foster is concerned; she is the most a-sexual character on television. Despite the fact that they have her dressed in some pretty saucy little numbers and they've given her some racy innuendo filled dialog, she lacks any kind of sex appeal. BUT WAIT! I do like the psychologist side of her and this is where her character really shines and is very believable. The writers need to knock it off. Short of Foster developing a booze habit and becoming some sort of foxy fallen angel, I don't see how any relationship she gets in (Cal or otherwise) will be interesting or even beneficial for the storyline.
I guess what I would like is for this show to develop more of a "Damages" feel. More suspense, less lame comedy and bland story lines.
