This is a beautiful portrayal of true love!
cynthiahilston28 March 2022
When Elizabeth's usual babysitter can't watch Little Jack because she's sick, Lucas steps up to help. The relationship between Elizabeth and Lucas reaches new levels this week and goes deeper. For a man to love and care for a child who isn't his biologically says a lot of about his true character. Lucas is dedicated, loyal, sweet, kind, patient, and above all, loves Elizabeth and Jack. The writers did a wonderful job of showing true love.

The other storylines are strong as well. The Canfields struggle with their son, Cooper, and why he's been acting out. The reasons behind this are heartbreaking and understandable.

Mystery continues to loom over who Mei Sou is, but it's refreshing to see Nathan open up to a woman and perhaps find a new path.

Tensions between Lee and Rosemary grow as they learn to work together on the newspaper, but I still wonder how Lee fits in because he needs to find his calling on his terms, I feel.

Trouble lurks in Hope Valley with the arrival of no-good Wyman Walden and the Pinkertons. The stakes are raised every episode, and no doubt something big is going to go down before all is said and done with season 9!

When Calls the Heart remains a clean, family-friendly show with moral values. The community routinely comes together to help their own and embraces newcomers, but they stand up against threats and overcome with fairness and justice.

This is the episode!
ISmellSnow28 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Best of S9 so far! Coopers storyline has been written and acted SO well! It's truly touching.

Mr Landis is absolutely driving me crazy but apparently our opinions of him are about to change? It'll be a hard task to tackle but I trust the writers will get us there.

Why on earth did Rosemary assign Lee to interview Hickam about winning the mayoral election? Just to see that Hickam is clueless? Don't like that too much but again, I'm trusting the writers will get us somewhere with this plot line.

Lucas with little Jack. Wow!! It was amazing to see and was exactly how I pictured it. Elizabeth admits to herself (Lucas is asleep) that she loves him! What an amazing scene. The kisses at the door. Wow! But then BAM Lucas gets attacked. And we see him go into protection mode towards Wyman and Spurlock. Yes!! I know we have so much more coming from this and I'm excited to see it!

Mei and Nathan are slowly but surely bonding which has been nice to see! But, I'm missing Allie!

I'm sorry to say this but Molly seems out of place now. I love the actress SO MUCH but what are they doing with Mollys character? Either pick it up or move her on. I'd hate to see her go but I'm seriously not interested in her storyline anymore. We should be using her screen time for other characters.

The show is about Elizabeth or just Elizabeth and Lucas?
andreaeligs29 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
If the show wants to keep taking about the "perfect relationship Elizabeth and Lucas have" so let's talk about it.

It seems in every week they are only focusing with Lucas and Elizabeth and I don't want to see that!

And if you keep doing that, people will leave.

They have shared a looooot kisses like they were a married couple, and the "forced" I love you, darling? What was that?? It seems every week they try to convince us that Elizabeth and Lucas are a good pair, but everything seems very fake and over the top! Stop doing that! And make something natural. If that guy is the right guy for her, then stop doing the same thing.

This new season lacks so much creativity. Always re-making old storylines, never anything brand new.

And I'm saying this because they are trying so hard to sell a love story with Lucas and Elizabeth and they are doing the same thing they did with Jack, but this time it's a boring story because they never talk about anything good and at this point it isn't a parallel, the writers are intentionally repeating storylines. Same old story.

It's so boring to only watch Lucas and Elizabeth. You know that there are more characters on the show, right?

And you know, falling in love with someone that you had no idea you'd ever fall for is the most beautiful kind of love. No forcing chemistry, just a pure special connection that is created all on its own. That real connection Elizabeth and Jack had. Not everything about romance is butterflies and rainbows.

I still have a real issue with Lucas and Elizabeth being together because they have never talk about anything that is not the book or her son.

And this new season they are trying to sell a love story with zero chemistry. They are trying to make Lucas as a saint and a father figure when isn't.

The show is getting so boring because when Hickam wanted to become a Mayor?

When Elizabeth talked about how she lost her husband with Lucas? Like a real conversation.

Where are the good stories with the kids?

Elizabeth is getting so weird and boring.. Lee and Rosemary and the Canfields are THE MOMENT, but they don't have any real good storyline that make sense. But idk this show is getting too hard to follow and understand.

And please stop using the audience for ratings The show is getting boring day by day and I feel bad because of the actors but everyone is trying to the their jobs but at this point is a mess 😞

Best Episode Yet!!
lauren0528 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Best episode of season nine yet (and perhaps of all nine seasons thus far)!! It truly has it all! Romance, family, humor and a bit of intrigue! I think it's safe to say, hearties couldn't be happier or more smitten after watching this episode!

Elizabeth ends up in a bind trying to find a babysitter for her son, Jack. So, being ever the considerate man he is, Lucas volunteers to watch Jack for her & the two go on the cutest little adventure, red wagon and all, before ending the day with one of the most adorable of moments in WCTH history! Lucas & Jack were the highlight of this episode by far & every scene with the two of them was just as sweet as the one before it! Chris McNally & Hyland Goodrich are absolutely outstanding together and made this storyline everything I had been hoping for & more!

The Canfield's story grows ever more this episode with Cooper Canfield acting out against the school superintendent, Mr. Landis. A meaningful & wonderfully acted storyline that is becoming one of my favorites of this season!

Mei Sou has finally sought out the help of Bill and it seems her actions have also caught the eye of a particular Mountie in town. Nathan & Mei's bond over Newton leads to Mei accepting Nathan's invitation to dinner at the saloon. It seems there is a mutual interest budding between these two, but for now, only time will tell where it takes them!

Wyman & Spurlock are once again back in Hope Valley & causing all sorts of mystery and trouble for the town, but particularly for Lucas who winds up being jumped after leaving Elizabeth's house. Wyman & Spurlock are top suspects but the question remains, who exactly is behind the assault?

And finally, if Lucas & Jack weren't enough to completely melt your heart this episode, the growing romance between Lucas & Elizabeth will. Their courtship hit a new level this week with Elizabeth realizing just how much she cares for Lucas after seeing him as a father-figure to her son. And boy, do these two heat things up! The looks of love between them, the tender kisses, the endearing gestures, the three little words of "I love you" being whispered to a sleeping Lucas... there are just no words! Erin & Chris' chemistry is simply unmatched. The actors & writers have spoiled us to no end with this beautiful love story & it's all we've ever wanted for our favorite couple! After watching this episode three times, I'm still on cloud 9!

Trying

I want to like the show - I loved it for years. Season 8 was all over the place but I had hoped they would have found their footing this season since the triangle is done. Instead, still disjointed stories. There are moments that I enjoy, but I honestly am bored and find myself getting distracted. Not as much angst as last season, but the show is missing it's heart. What have they done to Rosemary and Lee? Not enough of Bill either. I gave it two stars because it DOES have some moments where I see memories of what used to be. But overall - very disappointing.

It's getting more boring with each episode
carolinakanter30 March 2022
I already wrote that I really wanted to look and like S9. But it is getting utterly boring. Elizabethand Lucas? What 30 year old woman talks like that to her suitor, using a baby voice? There are too many of the same boring scenes with E+L together and separately while other storylines are cut short. Next week Allie is back. I'll watch that but will skip most of the rest.

Super Sweet

Loved this episode of Lucas taking care of Little Jack. The part where he was reading the bed time story really touched my heart. I really like Lucas's character in this show. He is warm, so kind, strong and funny too. I strongly hope they don't try and turn him into anything seedy or dishonorable. It will not work!

Nothing to like about it
rsondra30 March 2022
Even the kids don't have good rolls this year. It's all about L and E and no one else. I can't even make sense of the other storylines. The plots and storylines are boring. Scenes of others are cut way too short. The only bright spot is N and his horse Newton.

Awful show. Season 8 was terrible, and now Season 9 is just bringing the cheesiness to a new level. It should have ended after Season 7. Just awful. The writers should be ashamed.

Warning: Spoilers
Watching Lucas take care of little Jack, pulling him in the wagon, reading a bedtime story to him (Robin hood, the character he wanted to be when he was little) was so touching!! You could see Elizabeth's love for him growing as she watches him care for her son. Her breathless "I love you" as she watches him sleep, tired out from caring for her son, is priceless. This was an amazing episode.

Not good, disappointed
sroark-441704 April 2022
Can I please hit the snooze button, because this is what it feels like when I'm watching this show. I can't even go there. The scripts given are just not good literature. The stories are all over the place. The heroine is no longer the heroine. I would of gave it a 2 but I thought about it for Molly's sake. She was the bright one in this episode. I did like Nathan, but he really has no good scripts to do. I'm just not feeling Lucas and Elizabeth, I'm trying really hard. They just have no depth, no deep conversations, it feels like a high school sweetheart kinda thing. Faith scripts that are given to her are just boring. I don't know how much longer I can watch this show. About to give up on it. Not good at all.

Straight from the Heart - Straight to the Heart. BEST EPISODE YET!
Nellie191628 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Last night's When Calls the Heart episode literally had it all and I can't recommend this series enough. A flu bug left Elizabeth without a child sitter and Lucas volunteered to watch Little Jack. If their scenes together don't melt your heart, it's made of stone. Such a wonderful job by Chris McNally and newcomer Hyland Goodrich. Rosemary said it best. Lucas will make a wonderful father - and Jack's biological father would be pleased to see such a good man stepping into that role.

Cooper Canfield's issues continue as he is acting out against the visiting school superintendent August Landis now. Elias Leacock is great in his role & is bringing this storyline to life.

The mysterious Mei Sou continues to mystify. I totally believe she's a good person, but what is her story? She confided in Bill, but we still don't know. Married (don't think so) not married? What is she running from.

The most beautiful thing is the love story of Lucas and Elizabeth which took its next step forward. Elizabeth is in love with Lucas who always everything he can for the woman he loves. Their tender actions and kisses were so romantic and scenes like the 'argument' they had last night over his installing a phone (more on that in a bit) underscore why we love the couple so much and why they are ranked in the top twenty couples with the greatest chemistry. Absolute magic.

And finally, the intrigue continues. Wyman Walden and Julius Spurlock are back in town and everyone's radar is going off - trouble ahead. After a beautiful day spent with little Jack and Elizabeth, Lucas is going to his car and is ambushed by some unknown assailant. He walks away with a black eye, and the next day warns Spurlock and Walden to stay away from Elizabeth and little Jack. This is also when he installs the phone (for her to use in case of emergency). Lucas is taking care of those he loves and Nathan and Bill are right there at his side taking care of the town. Hope Valley will no doubt defeat the villains but we have some angsty moments up ahead.

In short, this episode left true Hearties smiling and wanting more. The writing and acting are superb. It's good, clean family fun. It's a love story - not just the romantic kind but the best kinds - all encompassing - and it was written for us. Another wonderful evening spent and I can't recommend this series enough. At 9 years old, it's still going strong.

Be careful
Sar-835997 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode had it's good moments, though all of them involved the Mountie, no doubt. Oh, and the little boy was adorable too.

But, why all the 10s ? Let me tell you: Lucas fans trying to skew ratings. No show deserves so many 10s. It's unrealistic.

If you want to know the truth, do a little research using the ratings on here. Look back at the ratings of this show Season 1 to 7. A collective and well deserved 8 to 9 stars, consistently. There were good writers, a cohesive storyline, and the show was heartwarming. And a joy to watch.

Fast forward to Season 8 and 9 ratings. Consistently in the sixes, sometimes even lower (the finale of S8 got a 5 and for good reason), and that's generous. I'll tell you straight: it stinks now. Why? Because of the new head writer. He didn't bother to even watch the first 7 seasons of the show. So therefore, from Season 8 on, nothing he writes makes sense, every episode is full of angst and anxiety (not to mention that this is his well known undisputed style of writing. It can be confirmed on other shows he had written for or has even been let go from).

Where had all the heartwarming gone? This show is now the sad shadow of its former self. And it just keeps getting worse.

It's sad for the exceptional actors (who I adore by the way) who are given nothing good to work with. And, it's horrible for the faithful fans who kept watching, hoping it would get better. It hasn't. But above all, it's sad for the legacy of the show, which has showcased so many beautiful stories and so many countless, wonderful moments over 7 seasons. Not to mention the whole host of actors who have come and gone, and poured their heart and soul into it, over so many years, and so beautifully.

Do yourself a favor. Watch the first 7 seasons, enjoy them, and let the show end with the "hug heard round the world". Pretend Season 8 and 9 don't exist. You'll thank yourself later.

Not a good example for young people
Arnie-1300720 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What kind of man have they written for Elizabeths love interest? The guy is a gambler (distributing money for poker chips? Is he running a casino now?) In my opinion, this should not be ok, on Hallmark channel. They should be think twice before allowing such a person in a relationship with their heroine. (My teenage girls watch this show).

The leading man got her held at gunpoint in S6, and that was never addressed. And Lucas was a complete trickster in season 6 and 7. He tricked her into going on dates with him, after she had clearly stated she wasn't ready to date. He sold her the dates under the guise of friendship, but when she showed up, it was a date, complete with champagne and candles. Why is this manipulative bait and switch allowed? When there are young girls watching?

Now in the episode he completely lied to her? When will such behavior be addressed?

And now, with the telephone, he completely manipulated her with his sweetness and the ice cream, to get her to agree to the telephone in her house, that he installed without her permission? I know he's worried about her safety, but this is Elizabeth Thornton we are talking about, and she would never have allowed this before. Why are the writers going down this route, and allowing such a manipulator for their heroine?

After the beautiful love story with Jack, this one just falls flat. The guy is shady and questionable character. A gambler, a liar, and now a manipulator. How can she fall for him, after a guy like Jack Thornton?

Storylines lacking
famyarn20 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The little boy was cute. But Elizabeth and Lucas are still a snooze fest, and cringe fest all at the same time. How are we supposed to believe that she picked this gambler over the Mountie?

Its easy to see, though, the truth about this sinking ship. All you have to do is look at the ratings. Compare Seasons 1 thru 7 ratings (all between 8 and 9 by the way), to those of Season 8 (average of 6.475 and thats being generous), and those of Season 9 (so far 6.3). Its all going downhill. Why?

Because the head writer didn't even watch the previous 7 seasons for the show he's writing for. Nothing is cohesive nor does it make sense. And his writing style is either all shallow and superficial, or angst and discord. He doesn't know any other way to make a story interesting. So what you got here is a love story all fake shallow and superficial (L & E) and the Mountie who's the best part of the show, but he gets all the angst and discord.

Its sad what this show has become. It used to be full of beautiful life lessons and heart warming storylines. Now its just disjointed.

So, my advice: watch Seasons 1 - 7 when it was still good. Skip season 8 and 9. Trust me.
