A burglar breaks into a safe in a private home and removes a ring. A maid hears something and is killed. By the time the home owners come back, the police are there. The wife tells them that nothing is missing. She speaks to her lawyer, Conrad Phillips. The ring is from her lover, Anthony Newlands. She lied to the police, because if her husband found out, he would divorce her. She gives Phillips cash and asks him to get the ring back. The trail leads to four other pieces from the same set, all gifts of Newlands to his assorted lovers.

It's one of the small second features in the Edgar Wallace series, with all his trademark gimmicks, and Demi-monde atmosphere. Although clearly cheaply shot, it is quit compelling because of the strong screenplay by James Eastwood, and the excellent, although minor actors available in the period. A fine way to spend an hour.

Warning: Spoilers
A jewel thief is robbing specific items from specific people in particular places. A lawyer Bill Lawrence and Inspector Forbes from Scotland Yard eventually track down the thief, the identity of whom did surprise me. Apart from that it is a rather dull entry in the Anglo-Amalgamated series of Edgar Wallace literary adaptations. This one is based on the novel 'Four Square Jane.'

The actors are competent enough but there is not much spark in them. Music score is OK and the cinematography is OK and the script is OK with a few witty lines but nothing to lift the film above just under average. Though I must admit there were some very pleasing looking ladies to watch.

Warning: Spoilers
I expected more from this Edgard Wallace Mystery show written by the famous James Eastwood. I did not know he made scripts for UK stuff. Unless it is another James Eastwood we deal with; but I doubt. Anyway, this little programmer is rather flat, boring, tepid at the most. A story about jewel robbery, detective who tracks the robber, some gals and lots of talk, talk, talk...Good atmosphere although, typically British. But besides this, nothing special to point out. I saw better Edgard Wallace episodes. Yes, Sir. Just watch my comments about them.

Don't know the filmmaker. There were many of them in the early sixties. I guess they made TV shows in the years following.
