Endearing without the Sap
Billy_Crash19 January 2012
Rick Hansberry has written a beautiful tale not to be missed. The excellent direction of Chris Messineo truly brought this dramatic story to life in vibrant ways. To make the story truly shine, the actors chosen were not only perfectly suited for their roles, but their performances were solid, natural and spot-on.

Daniel Stern's narration was fabulous and matched the tone of the movie extremely well. Right from the beginning, we're hooked by his even yet rhythmic intonations that are inviting as well as captivating.

Furthermore, Michael Whalen's exceptional score will stay with you long after the credits roll. Absolutely breathtaking music!

Most importantly, the story, though timeless, is fresh and invigorating to anyone, anywhere.

Although some may think short films are throwaways and not worth spending time on, to miss BRANCHES would be a grand mistake. Sit back, enjoy - and I have no doubt you'll watch it repeatedly, and tell your friends and family to do the same.

Branches is a Simple and Sweet Short Film
seangal82424 August 2012
"Branches" is a short film written by Rick Hansberry and directed by Chris Messineo that tells the story of four friends and their annual quest to get a great Christmas tree for their family. The acting is moving without being schmaltzy or sentimental. The movie is greatly improved by superb narration from the great Daniel Stern of "The Wonder Years" and "Home Alone." His smooth voice is perfect for the heartwarming feel of the movie. Without spoiling the film, I will just say that it is written very cleverly in terms of perspective. Check out "Branches," especially around the holiday season and be sure to watch it with your family. It's about 7 minutes long and it's a perfect dose of happiness one needs around the occasionally stressful holidays.

A Winter's Tale Worth Seeing
RichardStephenBell6 December 2010
This short film is full of heart and shot with a powerful eye for character, nature and the world around us. Rick Hansberry's award-winning screenplay has been turned into a spirited cinematic winter wonderland tale by Chris Messineo and his compatriots from Offstage Films, which has produced a slew of other great shorts. Be prepared to go on a holiday journey filled with magnificent cinematography, great acting and meticulous direction. Guided by the veteran actor Daniel Stern's calm voice and with a supporting cast of skilled actors, "Branches" takes us on a wonderful winter ride that both writer and director have carefully planned and executed with skill and nuance. Especially during this holiday season, this film would make a great gift and something that should become a part of everyone's library for viewing not only during the festive season but any time of the year. Anyone who has the chance should check it out at film festivals or buy the DVD. I give it 10 out of 10.
