Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is a film that could only have been made in this moment. Think of it like Avatar or InAPPropriate Comedy; a film that owes its very existence to modern technology. You wouldn’t stage an all-out ape war without the assistance of lifelike computer apes any more than you’d try to film a Rob Schneider “comedy” about apps (is it really about apps? I’m not exactly sure) in a time before apps ever existed. Yes, the road to this weekend’s monkey mayhem is a long one. Because primates have been waging bloody vengeance on each other (and us, mostly) for more than a century, but only now is photorealistic chimp warfare a legitimate thing we can pay ten dollars to see. So let’s start back at the very beginning, and trace cinema’s primate special effects from their origins to the present day; from King Kong to...

Glamour! Elegance! The sweet smell of self-congratulation! None will be present at the 34th annual Razzie Awards, a proudly low-budget event dedicated to dishonoring the previous year’s worst movies. (Actually, make that “no-budget”; have you seen the Razzies’ website? It looks like a Geocities page from 1996.)
There are several strong contenders in this year’s Razzies race, from father-and-son team Will and Jaden Smith to perennial “winner” Adam Sandler and Golden Raspberry Award Foundation favorite Sylvester Stallone, who snagged a record-breaking 31st nomination for his work in three 2013 films. (Note: It is not hard to become a member of the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation.

At Saturday's Razzie Awards, we are predicting that "After Earth" will win five of its six bids: Worst Picture, Director, Supporting Actor (Will Smith), Screenplay and Screen Combo. Our collective opinion as to this year's "winners" is drawn from the combination of the four sets of forecasts at Gold Derby: Experts, Editors,Top 24 Users predicting last year's winners and All Users. We expect "Grown Ups 2" to prevail in just two of its leading eight bids: Worst Actor (Adam Sandler) and Worst Remake/Rioff/Sequel. -Break-As neither of these films had weak roles for women, look for Razzies darling Lindsay Lohan to win Worst Actress for a pair of misfires -- "InAPPropriate Comedy" and "The Canyons" while reality star Kim Kardashian should pick up Worst Supporting Actress for her role in Tyler Perry's "Temptation." Among those expected to be shut out are "A Madea Christmas&...

Awards season is well underway now and with all the various guilds, academies and circles naming their best films of 2013, the Razzies are stepping in to switch things up a bit. Every year they honor the worst that cinema has to offer and this year is no different. Like usual, most of their picks are exactly what audiences expected, with stinkers like The Lone Ranger and Grown Ups 2 leading the way.
Unfortunately, I had the displeasure of seeing most of these films and I can safely say that the voters are dead on. These are all pretty dreadful movies. Admittedly, there are a few choices that I disagree with (I didn’t think Ashton Kutcher was that bad in Jobs) but for the most part, all of these filmmakers deserve to be nominated in their respective categories.

With Hollywood set to unveil the Oscar nominations tomorrow morning—the same day as the Sundance Film Festival kicks off—the folks at the Razzies are doing their annual thing of thumbing their nose at the industry by unveiling their nominations of the year's worst. And big shock here is really how tame most of their targets are this year. Mostly focusing on big budget bombs, or movies that people have already acknowledged are pretty fucking terrible, 2014 sees the organization pin their crosshairs on the likes of Lindsay Lohan ("The Canyons," "InAPPropriate Comedy," "Scary Movie 5"), Johnny Depp ("The Lone Ranger"), Will Smith ("After Earth") and more. The usually reliable Naomi Watts gets rightfully called out for her dreadful performance in "Diana," while Adam Sandler makes his usual appearance on here too, with "Grown Ups 2" getting its fair share of nods. We wish the Razzies wouldn't've made some bolder,...

In total, 146 films managed to infuriate the critics polled for Vulture's Worst Movies of 2013 — everything from Hangover Part III and Lone Ranger to Upstream Color and Gravity. Some movies may have earned a higher spot on the list if more critics had seen them (remember InAPPropriate Comedy?); others may have been released too late and too close together for true consideration (what will we think of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and Saving Mr. Banks six months from now?). Comb through the complete ballots below. A note on methodology: Each mention of a film earned that film one point, with a bonus point awarded each time a critic called out the film as the absolute worst of the year. A half point (and tie-breaker necessity) was awarded for films ranked as second worst. A link associated with a critic's name indicates that we pulled their picks from a previously published list.

Selena’s turn as a gun-toting, car-almost-jacking thrill-seeker on the big screen has earned her a major nomination!
“I stood up and cheered!” raved absolutely no one who saw Selena Gomez and Ethan Hawke‘s 2013 film Getaway, so it’s no surprise the action-thriller is nominated for three Razzie Awards, presented to the year’s less-than-stellar cinematic works. But hey, a nomination’s a nomination — even if the category is “Worst Actress” — so we’d like to take this time to congratulate our girl Selena on her prestigious recognition.
Selena Gomez’s Razzie Nomination: Why We’re Proud Of Her
Films are designed to move us, one way or another, and Getaway did just that. Selena’s film stirred enough emotion within the hearts and minds of the Razzies’ nominating committee that it chose to bestow this nomination upon her, and for that, we salute her.

Lindsay Lohan is not pregnant.
The actress tweeted, “April Fools. Where’s everyone’s sense of humor?” minutes ago — an apparent rebuttal to a tweet last night (“It’s official. Pregnant…”), which has since been deleted.

Her pregnancy announcement was the talk of the Internet this morning (was she pulling a Sharon Osbourne?), even as many commenters and fans assumed it was a prank all along. Plus the news that LiLo is still hanging out in Brazil after a much-scrutinized guest spot on FX’s Anger Management.

Late night TV isn’t generally kind to Lindsay Lohan — which may be why the actress hasn’t done a formal interview there (or anywhere else) since her Liz & Dick promotional tour last November. Happily, Lohan’s long absence from the airwaves will end Tuesday, April 9, when the Mean Girls star will stop by the Late Show to promote her upcoming appearance on Charlie Sheen’s Anger Management. (Her next stop: Rehab.)

At long last, a sketch comedy film for those who found the later "Scary Movie" installments and "Movie 43" to be entirely too highbrow for their tastes.
A collection of racially insensitive and sexually off-color gags that don't so much test comedy's boundaries as make you wonder how bad the gags they threw out were, "InAPPropriate Comedy" is the only time in cinema history you're likely to see Oscar winner Adrien Brody's name in the credits alongside Lindsay Lohan's.
The first joke that doesn't work is the title, a play on cell phone applications. The connecting device here is a phone where you can punch up the "Flirty Harry" app -- Brody, as a gay, pink Capri-pants wearing Dirty Harry -- or "Blackass," a black ensemble version of "Jackass," or "The Porno Review," which pairs Rob Schneider and Michelle Rodriguez as critics passing judgment on an assortment of comically bad porn films.

Dimension Films sent over the following two TV spots for Scary Movie 5, which hits theaters on April 12 and comes with a PG-13 rating, which has become a rating trend following Scary Movie 2. Considering I couldn't muster up the self hate to watch anything beyond the first one and the third one (which I reviewed back in 2003 before I knew any better) I haven't seen Scary Movie 2 or 4. This fifth installment is directed by Malcolm D. Lee (Soul Men) and features a fleet of second rate talent including Ashley Tisdale, Charlie Sheen, Lindsay Lohan, Snoop Dogg, Katt Williams, Molly Shannon, Terry Crews, Simon Rex, Jerry O'Connell, Sarah Hyland, Katrina Bowden, Tyler Posey, Shad Moss aka Bow Wow, Kate Walsh, Heather Locklear, Mac Miller and Mike Tyson. The film spoofs films such as Paranormal Activity, Mama, Sinister, Black Swan and Evil Dead and even finds a way to toss a little Inception parody in there.

Plenty of comedy legends have made their names forcing audiences to confront society's most powerful taboos. Vince Offer made his in a ShamWow infomercial. So it should be no surprise that his movie InAPPropriate Comedy, which attempts to find humor in issues of race and sexuality, was as successful as an armless man with a Slap Chop (Offer would like that joke). There's no actual plot to the film, which basically involves Offer choosing iPad apps (which explains the capitalization) that launch a handful of comedy sketches so unfunny that they wouldn't even have made season six of SNL. What the movie did contain much of were jokes that might get a smirk out of a 13-year-old boy while eliciting eye rolls and anger from all other sentient beings. Here's every dumb, stupid, offensive, idiotic thing that happens in InAPPropriate Comedy: Lindsay Lohan, playing herself, re-creates that famous sidewalk...

Things continue to go not-so-well for Lindsay Lohan -- her newest film just bombed at the box office.EW reports that "InAPPropriate Comedy," a tiny independent film that boasts itself as "hilariously offensive," proved to be only the latter as it debuted to just $172,000 from 275 theaters, meaning it took in only $625 per screen. Yikes. Also starring Adrien Brody (yep, he has an Oscar), Michelle Rodriguez and Rob Schneider, the flick was directed by Vince Offer, who you may know better as ShamWow/Slap Chop guy. With all of this talent, how could it be bad? "The Croods" animated film took first place at the domestic box office this weekend by grossing $45 million. Overseas, the film earned another $63 million for a worldwide total of $108 million. "The Croods" cost $135 million to make, which means that it's already on its way to become profitable. It also has a decent 64% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes. Landing in second place was Gerard Butler's "Olympus Has Fallen" action film, which grossed $30.5 million, one of the best openings for an R-rated movie and one of the best recent performances for Butler. "Olympus Has Fallen" cost $70 million to make, putting it on track to make a profit. It has a 51% fresh rating. The other new wide release of the weekend was "Admission," starring Tina Fey and Paul Rudd. The comedy took fifth place and $6.4 million. But since it cost only $13 million, it will likely earn back its budget. "Admission" has a 44% fresh rating.

It was a tale of two-plus Disney alums at the weekend box office. On one end of the spectrum was Spring Breakers, the very R-rated comedy starring Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens, which crashed the Top 10 in its wide-release debut. This weekend, The Croods proved that cave people have more pop culture appeal than just Geico commercials.
The $135 million film, which features vocal performances by Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, and Ryan Reynolds, bashed up a strong $44.7 million in its first three days — the second best debut of 2013 behind Oz’s $79.1 million bow. The colorful family film was produced by DreamWorks Animation, whose last film, Rise of the Guardians, severely underperformed and forced the company to take an $87 million write-down. Thus, The Croods’ success (for reference, Rise opened with just $23.7 million on its way to a $103.2 million domestic finish) is vindicating for the Jeffrey-Katzenberg-owned studio.

Yes, the weekend is down 35% from the same frame last year, but considering that was the weekend The Hunger Games opened with $152 million I think we can cut the last three days a little slack. The animated kids feature from Dreamworks and 20th Century Fox will be looking to stick around for a while after receiving an "A" CinemaScore and considering there isn't another animated family film until Epic on May 24. Croods co-director Chris Sanders previously saw his film How To Train Your Dragon open with similar numbers in March and go on to $217 million domestic and almost $500 million worldwide. Will the cavemen (and women) of The Croods enjoy the same results?...

Perhaps the only thing you need to know about Vince Offer’s InAPPropriate Comedy is that (spoiler? can you spoil a film that you sincerely hope no one you’ve ever met sees? beware?) it ends with the reveal that everything that has taken place previously, every deeply unfunny sketch, every ham-fisted attempt at stirring up controversy, every minute of offensive material presenting itself as shocking cultural commentary, has taken place in Lindsay Lohan’s vagina. To be fair, about three minutes or so do take place in Offer’s wraparound storyline (one so nonsensical that it makes me regret ever poking even the tiniest of holes in the wraparound storyline of V/H/S, a film that should be lauded as one of the greatest cinematic achievements of our time in comparison to the wretched tripe that is InAPPropriate Comedy), which features the ShamWow spokesperson/director/writer living in a sewer where he operates some sort...

Just when the recent misbegotten sketch comedy film Movie 43 had blessedly receded from memory, along comes InAPPropriate Comedy, another piece of cinematic sludge. While its predecessor at least provided the dubious pleasure of watching many of Hollywood’s biggest stars utterly humiliate themselves, this low-rent production features but one Oscar winner, Adrien Brody, here thoroughly slumming it along with Rob Schneider, Michelle Rodriguez and Lindsay Lohan. Its nonsensical title referring to its segments being lazily introduced as smartphone apps, the film directed by Vince Offer features one nonsensical, laborious sketch after another. Although each lasts only a few minutes,

Over the weekend I caught a trailer for InAPPropriate Comedy on television. I'd heard of it when I read Cracked's least four anticipated movies of 2013, but I didn't actually read what it was about. In fact, I saw the poster featuring Rob Scneider, Michelle Rodriguez, Adrien Brody and Lindsay Lohan and thought it looked fake. After all, a title like that couldn't be real... could it? It is, and it hits theaters on March 22. For those that might believe they've seen this before in some form or another, you have. We originally posted a trailer for it back in August 2010 when it was titled Underground Comedy 2010, not much else was known about it then, but its release now would only seem to be as a result of the fact Movie 43 was able to make money, though I'm not sure which of these was actually added to the release schedule first.

Shia Labeouf might not get an Oscar for taking LSD for his role in the upcoming film The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman, but he might get us to consider buying a ticket. “I’d never done acid before. I remember sending Evan tapes. I remember trying to conjure this and sending tapes. And Evan being like ‘That’s good, but that’s not but, that is,’” Labeouf told MTV about dropping acid to prepare for his character’s drug trip. “You reach out to friends and gauge where you’re at. I was sending tapes around and I’d get 50 percents from people and that just starts creeping me out. I was getting really nervous toward the end. Not cause I wanted to be on drugs — I’m not trying to mess with the set or anything like that. It’s really just fear that propels people.” Maybe it was fear,...

Like many a pop culture aficionado, The Canyons star James Deen read the New York Times story on Lindsay Lohan/ The Canyons over the weekend. But unlike many fans gobbling up the article for intel on Lohan, her co-star Deen read the feature, which outlined Lohan’s love of chaos and inappropriate on-set behavior, with bemused wonder. “The best way I can describe [the Times article] is actual life events reflected in a mirror and then retold for dramatic effect,” Deen said on the phone with EW this morning. “It’s accurate enough that it can’t be said that it’s not; it’s not a lie.

If you haven’t already, you absolutely must read this “Making of The Canyons/Lindsay Lohan profile” that was published in the New York Times yesterday. The article, “Here is What Happens When You Cast Lindsay Lohan in Your Movie,” is a wonderful behind-the-scenes look at the low-budget film The Canyons that was shot while Lohan continued her public struggles. Between the constant smoking, delusions about her life, how Paul Schrader got her to work and her issues with co-star James Deen, the whole thing is a fascinating read.

London, Jan 9: Lindsay Lohan, who played Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor in her movie 'Liz n Dick' last year, has managed to take on another legend in the guise of Marilyn Monroe for another movie.
A trailer for upcoming film 'InAPPropriate Comedy' shows the 26-year-old actress wearing a white dress like the one worn by Monroe during her iconic moment when her dress blows up in 'The Seven Year Itch.'
Lohan mimics the moment by standing on a pavement with a similar halterneck white frock blowing in the air to almost reveal her modesty, the Daily Mail reported.
She is then shown facing a row or paparazzi before taking.

We’re still waiting for someone to tell us that InAPPropriate Comedy is actually an elaborate hoax (is it some April Fools-like holiday we’ve forgotten about?), because it’s too hard to believe that it’s actually real. It basically makes Scary Movie and Movie 43 look like Lincoln. As we watched the red-band trailer (after the jump, due to Nsfw content) with our mouths hanging open, these are the questions that immediately came to mind:
1. Really, someone gave Vince Offer, the ShamWow/Slap Chop guy money to make a movie?
2. Does Rob Schneider need the money this badly?
3. Adrien Brody, did you lose a bet or something? Did you forget that you’re hot and won an Oscar?
4. In what universe is “Go ahead, make me gay?” a funny line?
5. Shouldn’t there be some SAG rule, contract stipulation or maybe a judge’s injunction, preventing Lindsay Lohan...

From a glass-throwing Elizabeth Taylor to a gun-toting Marilyn Monroe.
Lindsay Lohan takes on the role icon Marilyn Monroe in the very Nsfw trailer for "InAPPropriate Comedy," directed by Vince "ShamWow!" Offer.
In the debut trailer, the 26-year-old wears a glittering silver dress while positioned over a subway grate, reenacting Monroe's iconic scene in the 1955 flick, "The Seven Year Itch." In the "InAPPropriate" role of Marilyn, Lohan gets to live out “her fantasy of taking an ultimate revenge on the salivating paparazzi who haunt her,” according to a press release for the movie via Entertainment Weekly, grabbing two guns and shooting the photographs in front of her.
Lohan's cameo appearance in the raunchy flick might by buzz-worthy, but it isn't praiseworthy. "Maybe her shooting spree was funnier to the filmmakers before Newtown," notes Entertainment Weekly reporter Jeff Labrecque.
Reviews for the racist and sexist flick have been dismal overall.

Comedy is a very subjective thing, so we don't want to come out of the gate and say that InAPPropriate Comedy doesn't look funny. But we will. InAPPropriate Comedy doesn't look funny. At all. In fact, if you were laughing earlier today (perhaps at our Movie 43 pictures), this trailer will make you forget you ever found joy [via The Playlist]. Hyperbole aside, this is just depressing to watch. Not because all of the jokes miss by a mile. Not because it's yet another parody movie featuring Lindsay Lohan. And not because Vince Offer, aka the ShamWow and Slap Chop infomercial guy, somehow convinced enough people to get this movie the green light, but because it stars Adrien Brody as a character named Flirty Harry. The man is a great actor, has an...
