Hard not to compare

To be fair, it's hard not to compare this version with the original British Would I Lie To You which has been going for over 140 episodes. So it's hard to warm to a Compare who's not Rob Brydon or team captains who are not Lee Mack or David Mitchell. But it does have some funny moments so definitely worth giving it time to grow on viewers with every episode.

Wasn't that bad.

Compared to a lot BBC shows and American shows that Australian TV tries to copy, this one's not that bad. I usually cannot stand when watered down ones are made and they just don't have the same flow or humour as the original counterparts that made them stand-out, but this one doesn't try to change anything, it's pretty much straight forward just copying the British original with Aussies on the panels. Compare it to God awful attempts like Greeks on the Roof that buried the Acropolis Now character Effie's career by the worst possible copy of Kumars at No 42, or the absolute joke that SBS tried to call "Celebrity" Letters and Numbers that failed in every way possible to be 9 out of 10 Cats does Countdown, or even the most pathetic of all attempts at an Australian version of Whose Line Is It Anyway, and this show has done a decent job of just keeping it as close to the original UK version as it can.

Sure, the personalities aren't as strong as Lee Mack or David Mitchell, but Lano Woodley and the Chasers guy do a decent job. Chrissie Swan however I'm up in the air about, she's not exactly a comedian but hosts well enough to not be an embarrassment to herself, but if she's replaced in a second series, if there ix one, I'd not miss her.

I dunno why other reviewers are being sk harsh towards it, it's not that bad and is quite watchable. I wasn't bored watching the 7 episodes I watched, skipping the second purposely because I cannot stand Dave Hughes. Provided the show never invites Julia Morris, Richard Wilkins or Koshi on the show, it has a chance at future success down under.

Imo I think Mikey Robbins would make a great host.

Appalling host casting

Though there are occasionally good guests, why Chrissy Swan was cast as host of this show is unfashionable. She's not funny or charismatic, and sounds as though she's reading everything off a cue card. If they got sone decent cast members (ie, not bland tv presenters) then it might have a chance. The format works brilliantly in the UK. There's just no chemistry between the team leaders and the host. I can't believe, when there is so much talent in this country, that this is the best they could do. Imagine if they had Greg Fleet, Kitty Flannigan, Anne Edmonds, Denise Scott, Geraldine Hickey, Luke Heggie, Tom Ballard, and get Myf and Alan on! Hell, even Paul McDeemott!, tge list goes on!! This show (with a couple of exceptions) has been so disappointing.

Did no one test screen this?

The original is absolute comedy gold.

Australian host has no personality no comic timing. Get someone funny and quick witted Kitty Flanagan would be great or Shaun Micallef,

Cast look laboured held back , uk version flows and is hilarious.

Ross Noble steals the show only laughs in episode. Chris Taylor is great with scripted comedy but doesn't have the timing or quick fire for the regular team leader.

Australia has the comic talent but aren't shining here.

This is a poor imatation.

26 million people in Australia and all we can make is a franchize of a great british show, and do it poorly, even with Ross Noble roped in from the UK. No one else on the show has even a fraction of the wit and intellect of the UK cast. As for Carrie Bickmore.............just...........WHY???

Please Australian creatives, please do something original substantial and professional.

Embarrassing failure

The Aussie WILTY is a massive failure. I have watched two episodes and not laughed once. Frank Woodley isn't funny at all surprisingly.

I didn't think Chrissie was a comical person and the other guy who I can't even remember his name is the worse.

When compared to Lee Mack who can make every situation absolutely hilarious with his quick wit, David Mitchell and Rob Brydon the Aussie version fails completely.

It's truly terrible. When I couldn't get even a smile out of two episodes then it's time to give it a miss.

It won't last long.

Ok the AU version is powering up

At first it was slow (so were the first two seasons of the UK original) but they have their footing now and are good to go.

So glad for more good comedy.

Hopefully the USA version can match up.

With a couple of notable exceptions - Barry Humphries and Hanna Gadsby - Australian comedians lack the intellectual depth to be truly funny and nowhere is it more apparent than in this version of the much loved English show. The sad truth is one does not have to be very talented to make a living on the Aussie comedy circuit or on TV. It's dad jokes and light-weight toilet humour all the way with this show which is a satire snd irony free zone. Even the writing is inane.

I was worried that the Australian version wouldn't stack up to the uk version. Chrissie Swan is great as the host, and who doesn't love Frank Woodley. I took some time to warm to Chris Taylor but the he got there.

As in the British version some guests aren't as good as others but overall very funny.

1st episode not bad

The first episode was better than expected. It is hard not to compare to the UK version, but they did alright. Some of the stories were very good, and it's always easy to laugh at Frank Woodley.

I'm not sure about the length though. The UK version is 30 minutes, this was over an hour (counting ads). I think the show works better when kept shorter.

Another poor excuse for entertainment by channel 10. I'm guessing the success of the British version along with the use of 'talent' already contracted to ch10 (i.e. Cheap to produce) looked appealing to them. The problem is, as others have mentioned, that the hosts and most of the guests of this version have none of the wit or comedy talent of Rob Brydon, Lee Mack and David Mitchell. This show is a poor imitation of a show that didn't need imitating.

I've just seen a lot of negative reviews on the Australian WILTY, but I LOVED it! Yes, it took a little while to find its feet, but I really enjoyed the show. Chrissy Swann did a great job, too. I hope it gets another run next year!

Channels 10 attempt at a great British show is woeful and cringe worthy.

The cast are terrible. The host not good. Team captains, never heard of them, and very unfunny.

Please leave British comedy alone.

I really worried that channel 10 would mess up the Australian version of the great British show. They have messed up in every possible way. This show needs to be axed immediately. The British WILTY is still one of my favourite shows but this Australian version has so much cringe that it is unwatchable. Even the brilliant DJ Carl Cox couldn't save this show on episode 3.

What has Rob Brydon and Chrissy Swan have in common? Nothing. Rob Brydon is talented and comedic. I do not watch anything on TV that C grade Chrissy Swan is on. My favourite UK TV game show and what does Channel 10 do? Well they Chrissy Swan it. WTF? So who is Chrissy Swan? Well, those who do not know and you shouldn't know, Chrissy Swan was a Big Brother contestant 20 years ago. For some stupid reason she's been on TV and radio since. No personality, no talent, Just irritating. Come on Channel/Paramount +, do you not want people to watch locally produced TV shows? Literally anyone else could host this show and be watchable. Someone in the vain of Bydon's talent, and then you have a show.

Not sure what others are watching.

Lots of comparisions to the UK version. Not sure if they have been watching the UK version recently. It's stale. Lee just mails it in each episode. Dave Mitchell is still worth watching, but a lot hinges on the guests.

I found this version has energy and is well worth watching. Been some cracker stories told. Having watched all the episodes so far I've found them very good.

Going for 1hr it's even better in this sort of length as they can play out the stories much better.

Woodley is a much better version of Lee, while 2 hosts have played the Mitchell role.

Those that think Ms Swan is poor, I disagree, great host who doesn't overplay her hand and keeps the game going.

Comedy is officially dead in OZ

As per comment title. Cannot understand how they would go for a riskier hour vs half hour running time. It makes the fact that the show sux even more obvious. Corporate Australia can no longer hire INSPIRED people it seems. Its all the usual yes people wankers.

We certainly have talent, its just going unnoticed by the decision makers. Australia seems to be deadlocked in either boomerville crap or soul deadening reality TV (MAFS for starters).

Looks like Channel 10 is trying to find excuses to spend their money. Nope. Avoid. Or don't avoid, which means you are ill, get checked instead. Really makes you wonder why producers decide to make junk imitations.. Australia's state of reality tv shows and panel shows is a cosmic joke.

Improv Is The Basis Of The Game

The game is based on individuals being able to improvise after reading the card in front of them. The team captain of the team whose member is constructing the improv, be it the truth or a lie must let the team member squirm and sweat their way through the content of the answers. The team captain is to assist if the team member is stumped.

There are four contestants why only let three contribute with the improv, I also must comment on the host whose role is to get a resolution in a reasonable timeframe. The team captains don't need to hog the limelight except when it is their turn.

A mob of try-hards

The UK version is clever and smart and everyone is allowed to shine. The timing is tight and they all play off each other. The Aus version is a group of people who are trying to out do everyone else. They are all about their own egos and trying to be the funniest. It makes for a very noisy show. If they all dialled it back a bit, it would allow the true humour of the story to show through. I'm a big fan of WILTY UK version. And have tried on a few occasions to give this show a go. I usually last about 10 minutes and then it's enough for me. Particularly don't like Frank Woodley. He's definitely trying too hard.

Poor, poor, poor!

The host makes the show. You need a.funny straight man who doesn't react to the humour and has the ability to make humour while remaining straight. Rob has this; Chrissie Swan doesn't and this ruins the show. Other than having no hosting skills, she laughs at everything in a fake, morning-radio style and has no timing with anything.

Chris Taylor is not a comedian, despite what his talent profile lists.

Frank Woodley's humour does not fit the style of the show.

Australian comedians don't practice their improv like a lot of the UK comedians do. It shows when in the UK they can think and act quickly and make it believable, but in Australia their ability to lie and still appear believable is non-existent.

The only thing that this show is missing (and it'll happen soon if the show continues) is Joel 'I attend envelope openings' Creasy being a guest. Then you know the show has hit rock bottom.

Doubt this sees a second season. At least not as an hour-long program.

Just buy the UK version if you want to show the show.

I just finished watching this show. So much swearing tonight and sexual inuendo. I used to enjoy it once. Why is it necessary for comedy to be like this?

It can be funny without all that thrown in. Seems now all comedic shows seem to think that this is OK.

I cringed at the majority of the show tonight. Absolute rubbish in my opinion. Don't get me wrong I love comedy but I just Don't feel that everything has to revolve around sex or the human anatomy.

Might suit some but not for me. I will find something else to watch.

Obo Joan who would cringe if she were still here. She would have .......in her words..,.turned this rubbish off.

The beauty of the UK version is the dynamic of the 3 hosts, Rob Brydon, Lee Mack & David Mitchell. Each of them is witty & dynamic & able to improvise to create magical moments. The monologues that Lee & David create are at times nothing short of brilliant.

The Australian, well it simply doesnt have a dynamic that is funny & entertaining. The chemistry isnt there & Chrissie Swan isnt a comedian & cant bring the show together.

I tried, but I cant persevere, it was too painful.

Why on earth would the producers have Dr Christian Jessen, a drug using professional, who is a terrible actor on their show alongside incredibly talented celebrities !!
