Least favorite episode thus far.
Top_Dawg_Critic2 June 2023
This was the most filler filled episode in the series so far. It's the same old back and forth, spinning the wheels and going no where, and constantly adding irrelevant red-herrings and characters to stretch out the series. Adding unnecessary and irrelevant characters and then killing them off over next episodes is getting a little too much for my liking. Yes, there is a mind blowing revelation, probably one of the bigger wow moments aside from the lowest level subterranean reveal, but that ten second reveal doesn't justify the repetitive narrative that we keep seeing in previous episodes. At least there was some mystery or suspense in past episodes, this episode felt more like a recap of the already apparent revelations without really furthering the narrative. I don't mind some filler here and there, but only giving up a ten second new reveal within a 40+ min filler episode doesn't cut it for me. Hopefully this pattern doesn't continue.

I love the new beginnings

The stories where we see how the human being will try to survive at all costs always maintaining the hierarchy and control over others, I am passionate about. The first episode starts in an interesting way where we can see part of this diastolic world. Created to give us a vision of what could be, following each episode very interesting to watch. The story that shows us how the power relations must be maintained in order to maintain a balance, such as birth control (not so far from real stories) where the complete control over the human being is made, where it is evident that the social classes or steps (metaphor of Silo), define the role we have as individuals.

finally a little plot progress

This series is slooooow. It promised us a cool mystery about people living in a silo who may or may not need to stay there and are afraid to take the risk and find out. Is this story a one-trick pony? When we're actually allowed to see the point of view of a character venturing outside, will that be it for the whole story?

Why are they dragging this out so painfully with a lot of obvious filler about boring relics and a boring murder mystery about an unimportant character. Oh he wasn't who Juliette though he was? In the first place, why is she so credulous to believe that story and in the second place, I don't care about George's backstory anyway, whether he is good, bad or ugly.

And I gotta talk about the acting. There are a couple actors in this among the ones still alive and kicking who are good. Tim Robbins (the interim mayor) and Harriet Walter (Walk, Juliette's mentor) but their performances just remind me how stilted and uninteresting most of the performances are, including Rebecca Ferguson.

I do like the guy who plays Billings, however or maybe I like the character. He doesn't seem like a great pick for sherrif, just an average guy trying to get by. No doubt he's the pick of the powers-that-be because he's malleable.

The end of the episode has a reveal that is not actually all that surprising but at least it represents some forward progress.

Too much

Captivating story from the first episode and it got me hooked for sure BUT. The problem is you get 50mins. Or so per episode and half of that time feels like just a waste of time, call it filler if you want. Change the original story, build up characters etc. I get that but there's no point of dragging something so much. I feel that every tv series I like there's a problem with wasted time because at the end of the season you need to wait 2 years for the next part of the story. I can think of at least 5 tv series that had amazing story, characters and so on, but didn't make it because of the reasons I've mentioned above. At the same time for the past few years we have seen some spectacular tv series with one season or separate stories for seasons. True detective was the cherry of them all, especially the first season. Also mini series and so on. You have a good story or even an idea of the story if you're going to change thing by your own, ok, but what is the point of making so many unnecessary moments. You have 30-60 mins per episode, make them all worth watching. Yes, at the start of the series you can give just crumbs of the story, plot w/e but at some point if you don't give answers it's not going to be enough, enough to simply keep the attention of the viewer. With all that being said I enjoy the series but keeping in mind how many episodes are left until the end of the season I doubt that it's going to feel like it was worth watching at the end. I hope I'm wrong.

Filler and plot holes
charvey-zoom16 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(Bias: the books also have questionable story lines though this episode is nearly 100% show only material. So i feel a little peeved at getting fed filler for filler but whatever)

Biases and personal opinion aside!

Suspension of disbelief is an essential skill to watch TV these days, and depending on who you are you may have to suspend harder than others in order to enjoy some movie magic.

This episode, despite its cinematic glories and some very good acting, is absolutely riddled with confirmations of possible plot holes from previous episodes as well as new interesting ways to pull the story apart. I won't get into all of them because my main goal is actually to be immersed in the story and to let the suspense pay off, not ruin my own or anyone else's experience.

One plot hole that gets confirmed in this episode, however, just kinda deserves to be called out: cameras in apartments (and likely microphones). Regardless of every other possible camera feed in the silo (the plot holes become infinite, the story has absolutely no bearing down that rabbit hole), if we focus only on the one that exists in the Sheriffs domicile our entire plot, the whole premise falls apart. They knew the old sheriff and his wife knew things. They knew he hid the documents in the HVAC. They knew the new sheriff found them. It doesn't really even matter if we know who "they" are. At this point, with even a half-knowledge of what has been revealed plot-wise in the show.... Nope. Doesn't add up.

The thing about deviating from an existing storyline is that there is infinite opportunity to create whatever drama is deemed important and fun enough to create. While time and resources aren't as equitably infinite there certainly exists a level of due diligence to reasonably create material that doesn't feel thoughtless.

The Relic
bobcobb30114 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This show truly commits to its premise and while not everything about this show makes sense or is ideal from an entertainment standpoint, but the overreaction to the tiny details is sort of what makes it special. I don't think it is believable that all of these relics could fall through the cracks and go unnoticed for so long, but maybe we'll discover that is the point.

I wrote this show off early on, but I may have been wrong about it is. We need more shows like this moving forward and Apple definitely needs its ideal sci-fi show. Maybe it has found it with Silo if they can keep this quality up.
