This is the only of the four animated shorts made by Ben Hibon with an Imdb page. Each one of these shorts served as a complementary material for the movie Sucker Punch, expanding the backstories of the fantasy sequences.
Which is a bit weird, considering the movie establishes them as nothing more than imaginary escapism for the main character, being just a fantasy inside another fantasy, unless the implication here is that they were real after all, but the movie itself does not give such kind of hint.
Maybe if there had been a certain level of ambiguity towards them, in a similar way to Pan's Labyrinth, without the brothel subplot, the movie would have worked much better in my opinion.
That said, the short themselves are pretty decent and enjoyable on their own, with enough potential to have been developed into their own movies.
The Distant Planet was my favorite one, feeling almost like a Robot version of Snowpiercer. A movie about that would have been better than we actually got.
