Saved the Finnish history!

This movie preserves a history that is fast disappearing from the UP. Ever since the small dairy farms started disappearing from the area our culture and history has been disappearing too.

An enjoyable history lesson of the early Finnish settlers in the Keweenaw area.

Michael Loukinen has done an outstanding job on this 3-part series. I found it to be a fascinating story and learned what important contributions the Pelkie area provided in terms of lumber, agriculture, and dairy farming. I also learned about the hardships the early Finnish settlers endured, Finnish customs in general, and how they worked together in this small, tight-knit community. The story is told by people in their own words, and supplemented with history by Mr. Loukinen's narrative. Even though I grew up in the U. P. and am of Finnish heritage and had seen signs with the Pelkie name, I never knew the history of this region.
