Animal detective solving has seldom been this cheap or uninvolving

It is easy to see why the animations of Dingo Pictures are relatively obscure, though those who have had the misfortune of seeing any of their output (which along with their equally low-budget computer animated counterpart Video Brinquedo have not once made anything worthwhile) cannot forget their awfulness. It is even easier to see why they are universally reviled.

'The Mouse Police' is not one of their worst. To me actually, it is one of their least bad, due to having a little bit more of a discernible story to usual, even if it takes a long time to get to it, and being one of very few animations of theirs to have completely original characters and not recycle existing ones from previous work. Their characteristic laziness, cheapness and very poor to terrible all round quality are all present though, as well as a lack of originality.

The animation is some of the worst there is, so awful it's unacceptable even for low-budget animation. It has flat colours, very simplistic backgrounds, lack of detail and shoddy and unintentionally creepy character designs. As well as a style that makes art of primary school children who draw and paint in half an hour or less seem more accomplished.

Music always sounds misplaced and never fitting with what's going on, not to mention that it has little breathing space even in scenes that are in dire need for it. The opening music is actually the least bad asset of 'The Mouse Police' but somehow didn't seem like it belonged, more like opening music for a video game.

Script is incredibly repetitive and juvenile, some of it making one question who the target audience was meant to be, that it will insult any adult is bad enough but even young children will feel dumber after hearing some of the dialogue here. There is more of a story here and a slightly more cohesive one, it does however takes a long time to get there and there is a real lack of tension, mystery and suspense, the dullness is non-stop. Target audience is also a big problem, too dull and juvenile for adults and too confused and weird for younger audiences.

Characters are excruciatingly irritating and a few irrelevant to the story. Not a likable or interesting character among them, most of them being nerve-gratingly annoying or too sugary that it makes the teeth hurt. Meanwhile, the sound effects are bizarre and randomly placed and the voice acting throughout is ill-fitting, constantly depressed-sounding and just grates on the nerves.

In conclusion, may be one of the studio's least bad but still very poor. 2/10 Bethany Cox

Horrible Cartoon With Mickey Mouse Rip-Offs
jeremycrimsonfox13 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
After seeing this cartoon on YouTube, I was horrified. Originally released in 1995, this was re-released on the Playstation 2 in 2007.

The Mouse Police is made by Dingo Pictures, a German animation studio that is infamous for being one of the worst production companies in history, as their animated films are said to be plagiarized from works made by other studios. In it, two mouse siblings (who basically look like recolors of Mickey and Minnie Mouse in different outfits) are out to solve a crime when a cheese truck is robbed of the cheese it is delivering.

Basically, this film's PS2 port was released only in PAL regions by Phoenix Entertainment games, who basically released some of Dingo Pictures' movies onto the PSOne and PS2, and I have to feel bad for them. The music used sounds like it was taken from an old computer game, there are some spots where animation is non-existant (like the scene where Sophie teleports from rock to rock, and a scene where cheese fly into Rocky Roquefort's mouth), but worst of all, the characters look like rip-offs of Mickey Mouse and even characters from The Great Mouse Detective. Some characters basically have the black Mickey Mouse head over a body with gray fur, and to disguise the fact it's Mickey, they would put something on it like a mustache or even a bandage. Also, the voice acting sounds uninspired, especially with the foreign accents, and the lip synching with the character's mouth movements is not good. Also, the way it ends is horrible: the two find out the gang's base is actually in their aunt's old cellar, and they use it to bust them.

The Mouse Police is another example of how companies will release low-budget movies aimed at kids, as they are the audience who will accept any cartoon. While I am glad this was never released in the States, I still feel bad for the PAL region kids of the day who were exposed to these poor imitations of superior animated films. Only watch if you have nothing better to do or you like to see how bad this film really is.
