Season 4's "Woods"
thefoochie4 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Like Woods from season 2, this episode takes you on a wild ride. Even on his "safe" farm, Alfred still can't escape having to deal with absolute chaos. He has to deal with getting his leg stuck in a tractor, having to crawl home, and finally, facing off against the hog.

I can't pinpoint why exactly, but there was something so beautiful about this episode. While watching it, I felt the same way I did when watching "snipe hunt". I felt at peace (until the episode got chaotic ofc lol). I was very close to crying, and I'm still not even sure why.

I'm sure there is a lot of symbolism to unpack, but I feel like a lot of it goes over my head. I've read reviews for episodes like New Jazz, Cancer Attack, and Woods, and it feels like I'm the only one who didn't understand that there was a deeper meaning in the episode. Because many episodes of this show seemed to go over my head, I tried to make up for it by looking for symbolism in this episode. I could be wrong, but here's my interpretation:

I think the episode's message is about confronting your fears. The hog represents Al's problems that he chooses to ignore. During the episode, he constantly downplays the danger of the hog, similar to how he downplays his issues. Even by the end of the episode, he hasn't learned his lesson when he lies to Earn and tells him he's fine. This could represent how he tells people he's fine emotionally, even if he isn't.

The hog attacking Al shows how if you ignore your problems, they'll catch up to you eventually. Alfred is left with no choice but to tackle (literally) his problems and fears head on.

At the end, Earn and Al share a final bonding moment. The fact that this ep is the penultimate of the whole series makes this scene so much more emotional. Both of these guys truly deserve a happy ending.

Overall, this episode is a rollercoaster of emotions. It's one of the best episodes in the series, and an amazing character study of Alfred. I give it a 9/10. I cannot wait for the series finale and I have no doubt that it'll go out with a bang.

Warning: Spoilers
"Andrew Wyeth, Alfred's World" is a generally unassuming episode for the most part with ominous foreshadowings throughout. Following the events of "Crank Dat Killer", we see Alfred has gotten his safe farm secured and that he's been there for some time. Earn's been left on the back burner, he's been cultivating weed plants on the side, fixing a tractor up trying to enjoy farm life.

These foreshadowings eventually pay off in a shocking way and Al's luck begins to spiral once again.

The set-up/payoffs that came out from this were beautiful stuff and secured this episode as a top 5 episode for me. Nothing felt forced as unconventional as the episode structure was because the focus was AL full stop. Cutting himself off to the world and trying to live on his own terms with his understanding of "calm". But he's out of his element and all the signs are there to prove it.

Alfred may go through a lot and sometimes it's not all shootouts, but at the end of the day, spending time with the people he loves makes it slightly more worth it. The peace of the final scene where Alfred finally chats with earn and banters about sunburns...

I'm gonna miss this show a lot.

9.3/10.

another winning Paper Boi episode
nerrdrage24 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It's funny how nothing much happens during most of this episode. It's all a big build-up to the finale. But it was tremendously fun anyway.

Paper Boi going to all the trouble to fix a tractor he happened to find on his "safe farm." He has tons of money, why not just buy a brand-new tractor? It's not like he needs a tractor for his little marijuana farm.

The subplot with the feral pigs was very creepy. They have them where I live too - been imported all over the country by careless hunters - and somehow I knew that the skillet would be brought into the action.

I'll be sad when I get to the final episode in this great series.

Feral Hog

1. Al fixes a tractor 2. Al gets injured 3. Al kills a pig

This was the penultimate episode of Atlanta. It's actually been a minute where I was nearing the end of a multi-season show and wasn't feeling remorseful about how it was ending. In fact, I don't think that's happened since I started reviewing for TV.

That being said, some may complain about how this was a simple episode with not much happening. However, whenever Atlanta puts out an episode focused mainly on a single character, I understand that they are utilizing that episode for deeper character development. This episode was focused on Al and his time at his farm. While Al's adventure has always been fun to watch, it's sad to think that this will be the last one that we ever see. I do want to point out how beautiful this episode was. The cinematography was excellent and it captured the rural Atlanta so well.

In this episode, Al goes through many troubles including having to crawl back to his place. I think this sequence of events symbolize a hero's journey and the fact that Alfred overcame it and killed his nemesis (the feral hog), he stands tall in the face of victory. It's symbolic in the sense that Alfred has been struggling with his rise to fame and riches and what he went through in this episode portrays that he is able to overcome a lot without any help, including Earn's. It's a fitting end to the arch of one of our favorite characters. Though I first got to meet him on Eternals, BTH has been solid throughout Atlanta and has been a joy to watch.
