Intriguing Nica Noelle take on 'The Graduate'
lor_21 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I liked what XXX auteur Nica Noelle of Sweet Sinner did with the premise of Mike Nichols' THE GRADUATE -instead of copying the classic film she weaved her own version of a May/December romance (one of her specialties). Excellent casting makes this a winner, which spawned a long-running series for the Montreal-headquartered label.

Magdalene St, Michaels is perfect as the older woman, giving it a character actress spin rather than the Lisa Ann or Julia Ann approach of a mature bombshell. Feature begins with a welcome home party for soldier Joey Brass, back from a deployment in Afghanistan. Though Noelle stresses naturalism in her videos with invisible reverse-shot camera cutting, there is artistry at work as well, denoted by a striking early shot of Magdalene on a balcony towering over the tiny figure of Joey outside the house below her.

She is dominant from the get-go, always giving orders and even convincing Joey to leave his party to drive her home (nearby) and help her check out the house (including) bedroom for possible intruders -a daily ritual of hers. He resists her overt attempt at seduction , but the seeds are planted.

First sex vignette is with his older brother Johnny Castle and blonde girlfriend Angelina Armani. This is presented as utterly "normal" -setting us up for clandestine sex later on. Angelina is a great find - baby face, natural breasts with dark nipples and sensual in bed with the always reliable Castle.

Horny Joey phones Magdalene and they make a date at the Valentine Hotel (site of Noelle's earlier video HOTEL SIN). May/December sex scene is expertly staged, with St. Michaels in sexy lingerie, black stockings and high heels, most of which remains on during their bed romp. She's in charge, but Joey takes over en route to a subtle facial climax.

Plot thickens as Joey's parents (cameraman Jake Jacobs and all-time great Veronica Hart) want to fix him up with Magdalene's daughter Zoey, a Stanford student soon arriving home on summer vacation. Though mom Maggie is dead-set against it, more on class lines (Stanford whiz vs. young soldier) than sexual protectiveness, they have a date, at the Valentine hotel restaurant of course, at which Joey screws up by flirting with a woman at the bar and turning Zoe off.

When he shows up again, Magdalene answers the door and then tells Zoe about her affair with the young man, squelching any possibility for the young duo to get together. Joey's dad is unhappy with his son lazing around the house (iconic, repeated image of him on an inflatable lying in their pool doing nothing), and Joey announces he wants to apply to Stanford!

Third sex vignette is at school in the fall, with Zoe humping her boyfriend Michael Vegas (sympathetically cast for a change), who wants them to move out of the dorms into a home of their own.

For the finale, Joey visits Zoe's dorm and finds her gone, another girl moving into her room. He confronts her and Michael outside as they are in the process of moving, and at the crucial moment, Zoe impulsively chooses to go with Joey rather than her main man. It's not very convincing, but Zoe is sympathetic enough character (and actress) to pull it off.

Feature ends with our protagonists getting it on at last for a satisfying sex scene, with the usual Nica open ending. Final image lingers, of Joey floating in his pool.

Brass as Joey is fine casting, reminding me a bit of Dudley Moore (stature, not sense of humor), with both Magdalene and daughter Zoe towering over him. Voss is a unique young Adult actress, no one has her look or physique and she is appealing as usual.
