Caution: Baby Witches At Play
MissAnnThrope26 August 2023
What did I watch? Women who are hitting middle age acting like high school girls as they discover witchcraft. So where do they go for training and ghost hunting? Why, the biggest tourist attraction in the world! Salem, MA! And they spend an entire week training!

Any pagan went through the baby witch phase, but most a good bit younger than Vanessa and GG. But they seem to not be more evolved than teenagers.

Ladies, if you can't follow the directions to bake Toll House cookies, your would be really amusing to watch trying to cast spells. Learn to follow a recipe first.

Yes, this is a disaster. The viewer gets no information about paganism, or even about ghost hunting. There is no rational side offered either. Oh, voices in the basement of a liquor store? Is there a basement of another building adjacent to the store, with voices carrying through the pipes? Hearing people on the street, or upstairs? Nah, it has to be ghosts.

It is amusing to watch these two scare themselves, so they should have just gone with that angle. Instead, we get style over any modicum of substance.

She's 35
JonnyDR7514 July 2023
The entire time I watched this movie, I assumed Hudgens was in her late teens or that the movie came out 15 years ago. The more I watched her disturbingly childish behavior, and the more I started to put together in my mind the fact that it's been decades since those High School Musical movies came out, the more I realized that I was watching a 35 year old woman with the demeanor of a 13 year old child. That is the really scary thing about this movie, not the ghost hunting part. I have friends her age who have teenage children in junior high who behave more maturely than her. At one point in the movie she complains how people only acknowledge her role in HSM. Perhaps if she grew up and acted like an adult she might get cast as an adult in something.

Void of ANYTHING pertinent or informative
DebraIonaVogel11 July 2023
This "movie" documents the journey Vanessa Hudgens and GG Magree undertake to discover true witchcraft and enter the spirit world.

Yeah, right.

Whilst wearing negligees and appearing always slightly intoxicated, they giggle and prance around Salem.

It's a ridiculous farce. Then, Vanessa gets to the "serious" part where she reads from a journal about her growth and discoveries with braid extensions and lots of candles.

Again, yeah right. It's laughable and cringy.

You'll learn nothing.

It's these two blathering idiots discussing the women tried as witches ...and female empowerment. It's shockingly distespectful to those women who suffered and died.

There is no way anyone could possibly sit through it all the way through. I did it for you. Save yourselves...choose ANYTHING else.

so insignificant it can't even be described as fluff - 1/10

Imagine two grown women who have the combined IQ of a single schoolgirl. Imagine a string of failed relationships. Imagine an unhealthy interest in wicca and witchcraft because it's a safe-space and its somehow cool to tap into potentially malevolent forces.

Take these ingredients and send Vanessa Hudgens and Georgia Magree down to Salem to do some ghost-hunting. Add in various colorful Salem residents, let the pot boil for 98 (long) minutes and watch these two gullible characters become reborn and reinvigorated thanks to the accommodating business-people of Salem (who in no way profited with Ouija Board tuitions, book sales, wine sales, spiritual guidance, etc).

Watch two grown women bake cookies and over-share about how broken they are whilst dressing like they're 16. It's a truly inspiring tale that grinds The Patriarchy into the dirt and cannot be described as self-publicizing fluff for a Z-list actress and an obscure Australian-DJ.

Look out for the sequel next year where they set up a coven in LA where hi-jinks are aplenty.

If there's no Oscar nod next year for this masterpiece, I'm going to demand answers.

Dead Not? Hot Mess? Take Your Pick
armagecko2 May 2023
This "reality" show fiasco is exactly what one would expect from a show runner, a camera operator, and a bunch of other TV errand boys & girls whose previous gigs were the Lizzo show, Haunted Highway & Keeping up with the Ks.

There is nothing hot here. Both girls slather on two pounds of pancake foundation (and not enough powder) & slip into Demonia vinyl platform boots to tell us about their personal journey into witchiness. They throw in some terribly bad acting, fake ghost detections, a hoaky graveyard set (Peter Killer, really?) & an embarrassingly naïve revisionist take on the Salem Witch trials, which are blamed on the Patriarchy, despite the original accusers being young girls. Judging from the sleep-over style presentation, young girls aged 10-11 years old are indeed the obvious target audience here, despite both Hudgens & Magree being close to 35 years old.

All of these factors result in a femdom empowerment roadtrip to Snoresville. Save your 90 minutes & watch The Craft instead.

Disappointing
lhill209 August 2023
It's more about looking cute in goth attire than showing respect to spirits of any kind. High school slumber party where they hold fake seances and light as a feather stiff as a board comes to mind. The young women are lovely and engaging, but perhaps they watched The Craft one too many times. The history of the place and tours of the old buildings were informative and interesting, and the viewer is introduced to people genuinely involved in the study of spiritual matters like communication with the dead and witchcraft. And, as has become the norm in paranormal shows, they forget that those who died as a result of the Salem trials were not practicing witches.

Lacking in every sense
timojaehrling5 August 2023
Why does a movie like this exist? It has no director and no writer, i.e. There literally is no script, meaning they just randomly chose what to film and then edited it together. Any other persons appearing are not even credited, they seem to be either locals or personal acquaintances of the two actresses, who literally play themselves for crying out loud.

Apart from absolutely nothing significant happening, there's neither a dramatic arch or character development. And of course there isn't - there is no script! The base message of "be yourself" is so forced in through overlay monologues that it loses all meaning. Any franchise tie-in with the sole purpose of keeping up the license has more substance and, most of all, reason to be made in the first place. It just feels like Hudgens and Magree were bored, so they made a movie, expenses paid by the producers.

This feels like some random, very subpar Youtube documentary about two teens with the paranormal as a hobby, it's full of either bland or forcefully polemic babble and all in all has nothing redeeming whatsoever.

It unveils the stigma of being a witch and shows the viewers that Witchcraft is not Devil worship as pop culture portrays it to be. As a woman coming into her witchy and divine self, I appreciate this so much because there are so many misconceptions of what Witchcraft is and how Christianity has defamed being a witch with the Salem Witch Trials and sadly many more witch hunts. Vanessa and GG did an amazing job at trying to seek answers within this nuanced endeavor. I find myself gravitating towards this documentary as a way to be informed and understand a huge part of who I have discovered myself to be. Highly recommend this for any Baby Witch.

Unbearably awful.
karenjmclean-9699131 July 2023
I didn't expect a scholarly exploration of The Salem Witch Trials, but I expected what little bit that was referenced to be accurate. It was not even close. They didn't even mention that there were men who were also victims in Salem.

I didn't expect a deep dive into the various paths of witchcraft, but I thought there might be some information that some might find useful.

This giggly, inebriated, over-accessorized attempt by two vapid fluffy-bunnies to find ... something ... was painful to watch, disrespectful to the victims of the Salem Witch Trials, had more in common with GHOSTBUSTERS than anything to do with real witchcraft, and I found myself hoping some evil spirits would scare some sense into these two.

The single stupidest thing I've ever seen
michaeljabair28 July 2023
Absolute total stupidity...nearly unspeakably stupid. This is what 2 obnoxious attention seeking adolescents become when no one sufficiently shuts them the FU or puts them away for treatment resistant borderline personally disorder. This entire "film" is just...I mean it would be comedic if they weren't actually taking themselves seriously.

The interjection of catch "spiritual " language ups the viewers nausea as the "girls" then attempt to identify as both victims and spiritual trailblazers.

The Wiccan/Craft/Pagan communities are terribly reflected here, leaving the viewer with the sense that these traditions are accurately represented by these giggling morons.

False Advertising
arfdawg-110 March 2024
The movie is called "Dead Hot..." Only there is NOTHING hot about it. NOTHING.

It's 90 minutes of boring talking with two goth women both pushing 40 and acting like they are 12.

Vanessa Hudgens has way too much facial work to make you want to look at her. She has cheek implants and her face is pulled so far back, she now looks Asian. I didnt even know it was she until I saw the credits.

I guess she made enough money as a child actress that she can now indulge in these sort of completely self-absorbed shenanigans with a straight face.

The movie has not redeeming qualities about it whatsoever. It's a borefest.
